Has anyone painted a Space Marine Legion Imperial Flyer? They don't have any art reference and I was hoping someone had done or at least had an idea on how to paint either Avenger Strike Fighters or Lightning Fighters in legion colors. Please post any ideas or pics

Not sure about the Strike Fighter, but Lightnings are Imperial Navy not Legion-affiliated.
Therefore the can be any colour you want but more typically have camo like modern war planes.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

He's talking about 30K, the Primaris Lightning was, indeed, used by the Legions.
Unfortunately, I don't think I've seen any of the fighters painted up in Legion colors. Storm Eagles and Fire Raptors, definitely.
You might want to try browsing through this thread, as Scar has done a lot of 30K commissions. There might be one in there.

Where does it say this? It's available to the legion army list (representing Imperial Navy support), but the picture shown on that page is clearly an IN fighter flown by a normal human pilot and its fluff description doesn't say anything about space marines getting them.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Right. Marines have Thunderhawks, Fire Raptors, and Storm Eagles per the fluff and books. The Lightning, Thunderbolt, and Avenger are all Imperial Navy aircraft used in support of the legions along with Imperial Army (Astra Militarum/Imperial Guard now in 40k).

I may be wrong in my interpretation then, but the fluff for the Primaris Lightning says that it was assigned to only the most elite close support units of the Legions and the Mechanicum. It didn't make specific mention of the Imperial Navy.

With all that said guys. The Malcador heavy tank is a legion support weapon in the 30k book. And in book 2 it actually shows the vehicle in iron hands paint. So I assume that all legion vehicles despite the crew is still represented in legion colors for identification purposes

As a small side note, there was actually a card for a Death Guard Valkyrie (painted just in normal legion colours) in the HH trading card game. So, there is an official thumbs up for those if you wanted to use that model!
Otherwise, just paint in normal legion colours. As the comments above mine have indicated, the Legions had their own strike aircraft independent of the Navy prior to the heresy.
