While it is true that the OP is lucky his buddy isn't running Flying Nurgle Daemon Princes, it's incorrect that skyfire is at a disadvantage when a Flying Monsterous Creature is gliding rather than swooping. I do not have my book on me, so I can't site the rule exactly as it's written, but basically skyfire works against FMCs no matter if they're in the air or not.

As for how to handle the daemon princes. Drown them in dice. 3 Leman Russ Punishers could do the trick, and they don't even need skyfire to get it done. Whatsmore, they'll be good against anything else on the board if / when needed. Just a thought.
