Subject: Codex Chaos 3.5 my old love!!!

Happy Imperial Citizen

Hello guys I am a pretty old player of 40k and I am quite convinced that the system of the codex is a joke too absurd to chase ... I realized that it makes no sense to run after GW and buy Codex to play with friends (I do not do tournaments) ...
I wondered how many people in the world is tired of find a Codex changed even when the before was more than well done?
I'll try to get back to playing with that of 3.5 and I was wondering if you think I'm a fool or a wise man!

I'm not sure I understand the question.
If I do I wouldn't suggest running the 3.5 Chaos book simply because it doesn't reflect how the game works these days and you'll spend more time trying to figure out the differences between 3e and 7e than you will playing. Not to mention you'd be short any way to handle aircraft.

I did not get the pleasure of playing 3.5 like you my good sir, but I just have to tell you, if you want to get back into wh40k, do not pick CSM, play Daemons instead or even Renegades and Heretics from Imperial Armor volume 13: Warmachines of the Lost and the Damned. GW has been dumping on CSM. They want to make Failbadon credible. They gave us a fire breathing drake but then broke his neck. They gave us helbrutes which are just crazy dreadnaughts, but they suck so bad they try to sell us some dataslates to make them decent. They gave us cultist but they are much worse than guardsmen. Dont get me started on them dino bots. The codex suck so bad they created 2 supplementary armies to make CSM decent but the Black Legion forces a VotLW tax, and the Crimson Slaughter tries to make possessed as a troop choice but they still suck.
If you play Daemons you can try daemon factory, flying circus, screamer star, etc... If you play R&H you can get some decent Imperial Guardsmen stuff but spikier.

CSM can be great with formations and detachments. You're quite limited at long-ranged combat but can create quite potent mellee rush lists.
For example, i like an infiltration list. 20 marines + Huron + Cypher formation with chosen all infiltrating. Make the guyz slaanesh and get all the squad benefit from FNP and ini5! Or Khornate for FC and reroll charge distance. You can make it even more rediculous and go for another 17-20-strong squad with escape hatch so that you have a hell ton of power armored crazed fearless/ld10 guyz in the opponent's face turn 1. You can take Kharn or even Abaddon with this escape hatch squad or place Huron in there too if you don't roll high enough on d3 infiltrating units. One of a few ways to make them work without a landraider actually. Add Crimson slaughter plasma chosen with a prefered enemy upgrade in a rhino so they can wittle down an emidiate threat with all those rerolls.
Spawns with biker indeps work great too.
Be'lakor is an awesome force multiplier in larger games.
There are other combos ofc.
Anywayz, if you want the old cult system - just homerule it. You're playing with friends after all.

That said Daemons have ass for guns. I'm in the process of putting together my scattered Chaos models into a cohesive force and Daemons really need the firepower CSM offer in some matchups. I'd take an Allied Detachment of Daemons composed primarily of Heralds of Tzeentch and Pink Horrors to get the Daemon Factory started on a CSM force if anything.
