I thought Reaper was doing free shipping in the US, did that change at some point?

Anyways, wrong thread for that discussion. On topic, I'm excited to see more pics of the terrain accessory sprue.

Reaper is still free shipping to US, but Texas has to pay sales tax. Reaper's managed by accountants, so I'm thinking they err on the side of the IRS. (:

The resin scenery are "pledge boosters" meaning you can't use the credit from the pledges on them. I think Mantic hired that spin doctor from Iraq who said they were winning the war while tanks were entering Baghdad...

Ehh, the AW stuff is generally all pretty amazing. Having said that I went from ordering 4 sets of it for Deadzone down to none in favor of getting multiple DZ accessory sprues. I have a feeling it will go the same way here. I'm mostly interested in the bones stuff for the bigger chunkier pieces they're offering (in a cheaper material) as compared to the AW stuff which (while amazing) is a bit high for my already dollar eating terrain collection...

I believe the painter Mantic is using is Winterdyne.. here on Dakka..

Winterdyne is a Commission Painter in Nottingham ("Maz"?). Mantic used commission painters a lot, including Golem Painting Studio too in the past (though not recently?).

They also seem to have a new in-house painter named Dave: http://forum.manticblog.com/showthread.php?5489-Mantic-s-new-in-house-painter-is-really-really-really-good

I don't think they are the same person (though I could be wrong).

Geeze, looking at that guys work, I'm really glad I didn't waste my time applying when Mantic was looking for a new in-houser. Pretty good work - nice, bright, and cartoony. Perfect for MA.

Unless Reaper makes a hot dog cart though, I gotta give some more cash to Mantic and AW.

I'd been hoping for a hot dog cart!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Wait, what? So the $300 level which is almost entirely "pledge credit" can't be used on the resin scenery? I understand that AW needs to get paid, but since the only reason I'm in past my $1 moral support pledge is to get a gakload of scenery. Particularly if they add the DZ scenery sprues in some form, since 6 double-packs of brick walls is not quite going to do it for me...

Well the AW stuff was all separate paid add-ons for deadzone too. There was no stretch goal that gave out free/inclusive AW items to backers.

IA is like equivalent to strike team, but instead of getting enforcers plague rebs marauders 2x battlezones (eventually) and the upgraded rubber mat... you get the core enforcers vs plague with small terrain on a paper mat with $125 credit to pick and choose your ideal package. Don't want marauders this time around? Don't have to get any. Working with AW helps boost pledges and provides a nice addition (and if you're in the free shipping zone, gets you some AW w/o having to pay to ship it separately).

BotB is a specialized sidegrade to IA. In DZ terms it would be like skipping double strike and getting a discount for only picking enforcers and plague... or something. BotB exists to get you the most credit possible for Mantic add-ons. If you want the AW stuff I suggest IA.

I'm probably beating a dead horse or being annoying here, but it just seems that the pledge credit is being misinterpreted/expected to be something it's not.

I think I'm gonna trust mantic to make spiffy little accessory sprues and stick with theirs here like I did on DZ, but power to anyone who wants the awesome stuff handled by AW

So.....

in reference to the Kickstarter Exclusive Martian General Tor mini, is he automatically added to my prior $141 and $300 pledges or just pledges placed now to the 27th?

Their email seems to have confused me.

Pretty sure each pledge before the 27th adds an alt pose Tor. So you should be good.

If I were to change my pledge after that date, but was a backer before then would I get that model?

it's also in the update itself...

When the Kickstarter closes, we'll log the time that everyone's pledge was made - if it was before this time the alternate Tor will be added to your rewards at no extra cost. We’re doing this as a big thank you for backing us – we really do appreciate it!

This deal includes all existing backers up to this point, as well as any new backers that pledge between now and the 27th.

Note that changing your pledge level or changing the amount of your pledge will not affect your eligibility, it's only the initial pledge time that matters.

If you cancel your pledge and re-pledge after the 27th, you will not be eligible for the exclusive figure.

The new terrain looks spiffy. I might have to pick up a second job to pay for Kickstarters if they all come out this awesome.

Update 38: Pledge Boosters are special add-ons that you can raise your pledge to get. These are different from Core Add-ons (we can only offer things we make or get a special deal on, like the Exclusive Topps Cards and the amazing Deluxe Gaming Mat, as Core Add-ons) in that you can’t use your credit on them.

There's too much bait and switch going on. First, the "free" stretch goals were only for add-ons. Then they offered a great $300 level -- then something backers couldn't use it on.

I'm not too surprised that you can't spend credit on resin, since it's a "better" material than plastic. And the $300 pledge level is *still* a good deal. I'm not backing it (still waiting for a Stan Lee miniature!) because the "sweet spot" is way above $100, so if anyone has an extra base game set or Martians to trade for some boardgames, drop me a line!

They stated from the very first day that the bonus credit included with the pledges wouldn't be valid for third party items such as scenery or graphic novels.

They have heavily hinted that another set of terrain sprues is coming at as an imminent stretch goal (you can already see the space for them on the main kickstarter page underneath the ruined building terrain). The new terrain sprue should allow you to create intact buildings (or combined with the ruins terrain to make half destroyed buildings) which should fill a lot of people's terrain needs. They will also be adding a variety of items to add more character to the buildings and cover up the connector space such as shop signs, fuse boxes and pillars.

@ ced1106 - they said that from the beginning, the comics were pledge boosters that you had to add on.

"free" stretch goals were only for add-ons

firstly that's just plain wrong. we started with 8 martians and 8 soldiers and 3 heroes, i've now got 20 martians inc heavies, 10 soldiers and 9 heroes, with silhouettes of 2 more on the diagram, plus a nwe alt tor and a whole of stuff i get to pick.

secondly, you choose which add-ons you want using the credit, which they then have been upgraded, meaning you get a better deal.

its not rocket science >.<

It's a hell of a good deal, we're getting everything discounted and depending on pledge level, you're getting the box for cheap ($15 for my pledge level )

I wasn't a backer until a week or so ago, and only at the $1 level to help you guys get "backer numbers" for the cows, so I turned updates off and am getting my updates from reading this thread. I picked up a speculative $300 pledge from the con weekend, but I'm really not interested in Mars Attacks personally, so it's essentially a scenery-buying pledge, if they have enough of it by the time the campaign ends. When I emailed them to suggest including the DeadZone sprues (as I posted a page or three ago here) Stewart replied that there would be more scenery to come, "including some awesome resin bits from Antenociti's Workshop. See where we get to. You might as well keep the $300 level for now, and if it doesn't work out for you you can always downgrade on the last day :-)." Hence my expectation that I'd be able to use some of the credit on those pieces/confusion when it turned out I can't. I'm certainly not going to be buying additional add-ons above $300...

Aside from the Pacific Ocean between us, if I keep my pledge, I'll keep the game (and maybe even play it one day), but fair enough on asking.

Well yes, buying in at 300 and wanting AW stuff within your 300 is wut unpossible and unfortunate. Could downgrade to the $150 and nab $150 worth of AW goodies if you had to, but I get that you would feel the waste of losing the special pledge etc.

And here's the robot! 170mm / 6.5" tall for anyone who has a tape measure handy.

The pilot section in the robot is going to be compatible with the saucer pilots and Joe, so you can swap them out.

I've found some time to update the OP 100%, including a complete text list of all the add-ons, separated by category.

Mantic has a 3d print of the truck done too:

The core mechanics are similar, but different.

Mars Attacks is much more short and to the point, faster to get playing with. Deadzone has more complexity.

Mars Attacks has a little more randomness with the cards and crazy stuff happening.

MA is the beer and pretzels version of Deadzone, crack open the box, get playing within 5 minutes kinda thing. The rules are something you could get a non-wargamer to figure out pretty quickly.

Probably more of a "pure" board game in that sense rather than a wargames system.

The game is mainly narrative scenario driven (think the 12 missions in space hulk, that kinda thing), although there will be alt rules for points values included the narrative missions will be the main focus.

Mantic are looking into rules for including the martians in dreadball and deadzone just for a bit of crossover fun.

So I would really like to get a lot of the Martians, saucers, and robots for a counts as tau army. Do any of you have any suggestions for me that would help in determining what to pledge? I would love to do a $300 pledge but it says it is all gone.
