Went to the store and picked up my pre-order. I'll write a detailed review for my blog soon, but I saw the end of a game of Genestealer Cult vs Deathwatch (Acolytes plus Neophytes vs 5 tooled up Kill team). It was your standard GW almost a bowling green table, but Genestealer Cult handily won. Having models with Fearless to keep you in the game after being broken is very handy.

Genestealer Cult can field 26 Fearless models (24 Acolytes, 2 Purestrains) in Kill Team. All those beautiful rending attacks, with a couple of infiltrating purestrains to cause people issues.

It's a nice set. However it is very marine biased in the basic set (200 points Marines vs 134 points Tau) so it keeps up sthat tradition for starter sets at least.

Where are there points values for Genestealer cultisit's? In the Overkill box?

Bottom Right

Yep - freely given as a PDF download on the Deathwatch Overkill page. Unfortunately, you have to buy entire units with no options, so you are very limited in what you can take.

Basically, due to the 200 point limit and the Kill Team Force Org chart, you can take one of the following sets:

1x Favoured Disciples + 1x Faithful Throng (195 pts, 2x Troops)

1x Favoured Disciples + 1x Purestrain Princelings (115 pts, 1x Troops, 1x Elites)

1x Faithful Throng + 1x Purestrain Princelings (140 pts, 1x Troops, 1x Elites)

2x Favoured Disciples + 1x Purestrain Princelings (200 pts, 2x Troops, 1x Elites)

1x Brothers Aberrant (1x Elites, 120 pts, 1x Elites)

That's it. No other options without some sort of house rule coming into play. Hopefully we'll get a Codex some time, which I assume will give us lots more options with smaller minimum units and weapon options, but for now, that's what we're stuck with. The only Kill Team that even uses all 200 pts literally has NO Shooting ability aside from Autopistols. (Although it does have a crap-ton of S4 Rending Claws if you manage to get up-close and personal.)

It's not exactly bad at least, the 200 option gives you 26 models that are basically genestealer lite and genestealers.

Certainly going to have to swarm though.

Though i think possibly the best may be favoured and faithful, which gets you a healthy mix of melee and shooty, with 2 grenade launchers and 2 mining lasers, all of which both options comes with assault grenades with 28 models to deal with.

Lack of options is painful, but you get a good horde of models, plus some good weapons hidden in there as well.

S4 on the melee chaps means hiding in vehicles is also not quite as good as I hoped it to be. Time to deploy the Armoured Sentinels I guess and hope they don't get hit by those mining lasers!

You can ask your opponents, if he minds, if you divide all the units by two: 1/2 the points 1/2 the minis. All the gene-cult squads can be split in half (numbers and upgrades wise)

Its great we got this update, but I would have like to have seen some rules on minimum unit sizes or additional wargear options to address the challenges of building 200pt kill teams with certain armies.

Isn't there a Genestealer Cult codex coming somewhere down the road though?

There is probably a couple more loyalist SM books before that.

has there been anymore support for this game? I had heard of a rumored OP program in October but it's been pretty quiet on the GW front.

Yup! GW will soon be presenting a special event kit to local stores to help them run a Kill Team campaign later this year. It includes a complete scenario package (missions, contests, etc), buttons to be handed out as awards and primer material to prep players for the event.

IIRC €25,- per package.
