It's definitely a way for GW to try and make Ork players buy more kits given that they know we have 100+ boyz already built. Fairly sure its gonna be a troop choice, which dashes my hopes of the Nobz being moved over to Troops like I'd hoped. We'll have to see how they handle the pricing, since making them too expensive means that boyz will outdo them and making them too cheap makes boyz redundant. I hope at the very least this lets them look at Nobz again when it comes to making them more relevant as a unit (WS2+ or T5 would be nice).

I'm honestly not sure they can thread this needle.
The article implies, 'Boys, but strength 5 like nobs' at which point it becomes a pure metagame with numbers. Against guard, eldar, tau, it does not matter. Against marines it swings the wound rolls, but if the points are too high, weight of numbers (as these aren't 'durable like nobs') means you stick with boys regardless.

Once they start slathering on special rules (and these days GW seemingly can't resist, see the new blade mastery thing on DE), cost will go up, but effectiveness won't, necessarily. They might end up being 'Primaris orks' in the sense that it'll take 2-3 iterations to make them passable on the table.

I mean. If they make the same separation between legs and chest, and make both arms separate with the head, it would have the same numbers of parts as orks have now. Here hoping all arms options can go with all bodies and all bodies with all legs, but looking at this one miniature it could be feasible.

At least in my opinion it doesnt look like the right arm conection with the body is extremely complicated or "puzzle like", the same goes for the hip.

Looks to me like the legs and torso are one part - a la most GW kits of late - maybe like a front and back half, but almost certainly no hip joint, and with the new straighter ork backs, no interchangeability with the rest of the range

Think you're half-right about the arm/armpit connection, but looking at the top of the shoulder, I'm willing to bet that that's a solid piece continuing along to the scaly part up top. I can't see why the head wouldn't be swappable, at least not with other minis in the kit, but even with Plague Marines, they tried to limit head interchangeability really hard, so jury's out.
ofc, this could be an upscaled studio 3d print, for advertising purposes only, and so the clues I'm looking at could be all of, but I reckon I'm not barking up the wrong tree. There might be a tiny bit of granularity here, with something like a heavy slugga or some nonsense, but my money is on something not far off the Howling Banshees box - rigid models, few if any options, monopose and expensive as all hell.

Very true. And it does change what I may or may not buy personally. But for many it won’t. So they’ll keep doing it as it’s easier.

To be fair it does result in really awesome looking poses.
Just no options, posability, variance in groups etc

Exactly! It will be a new boyz box, that doesn't easily work with ANY previous box. It will have some special rules that are better than the current boyx box, so that you feel impelled to buy it. And it will be more expensive (which is such a great idea for a horde unit).

I wouldn't be so annoyed if GW would have just put out plastic tankbustas, kommandos, and deffkoptas at some point. Give us new stuff while finishing the range.

I have to admit, though, if they are slightly bigger (and I don't want to buy a ton of them), I think I may have found my solution to making Snakebite Nobs (or maybe, I'll just call them Snakebite Skarboyz).

It's also so damn weird that GW is so freaking set against upgrade sprues with orks. Every Necromunda Warband has like 2+ resin weapons boxes, and 1-2 resin head boxes. Titanicus has plastic sprues for weapons options, and like, a dozen, resin weapons options. GW could make ONE SPRUE that could let you make tankbustas, and one more for Kommandos. Expensive plastic molds are profitable for a side boxed game, but not for their flagship game?

Also, like, this dude has actual seams on his trousers, and a feed belt on his slugga, and a screw+bolt holding his armor together, and like a full blown chain blade in his chopper - other than two animal pelts - something loads of orks have, what exactly is savage here? Dakkadakka is quite the fishbowl. Many people that will rail against these decisions that GW is making don't go to or see the places where many /more/ people are quite happy that Orks are just getting new kits.

In other words: tell that to the people that are thrilled about the models.

I really dislike how GW has shifted away from orcs/orks having tusks or messed up teeth. Like those two sharp big teeth jutting from the lower jaw. They're starting to look more generic every time they put out new models.

Yeah, this struck me as well. There is nothing especially feral/wild with this boy, except the pelt on his back, and there is one boy in the current kit wearing fur (and a head with a furry hat) already. This feels very much like just a replacement for the boyz kit, not like a specific unit. So basically this follows the primaris precedence - currently a complement, but in the long run replacement with slightly tweaked stats and (maybe) equipment options.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I don't need these guys, I have lots of boyz and nobs, and would prefer them to each just have you know, usable rules, and their own place in the army (right now nobs are pretty useless - their jobs can be done better by either boyz or meganobz, depending on what you're after). If we insert these new guys inbetween, my feeling is that either the old boyz or the nobs will go away - the role of either of them will be replaced by by the beast snaggas, there simply isn't enough granularity in the stats to fit them all in any meaningful way. Unless they'll be like the primaris, and we will have to wait two editions for them to be usable... saves me money and space on my painting desk though, just a shame because the models are nice...

Anyway - this guy's face is very reminiscent of one of the current boyz, which is great. I prefer this "leaner" style before the chunkier, round faces of some of the new kits (for example some of the buggies). Good job.

No, but GW thinks that they sell more with an additional model line instead of replacing the old one as (they think that) people will not replace models they already have with more expensive but better looking ones or that those people are a minority

I wonder if they're trying to do a Primarork type thing, just leave the existing range as is to avoid upsetting the old fogeys but have a new sexy range with new rules such that people shift onto the new models.

I'm happy enough to see the old Boyz go away. Anyone who has been collecting Orks for a while probably has a crap load of them anyway.

The old boyz are boring. They might be infinitely adjustable, but they all look very same-y, without ball joints the guy with the outstretched arm looks like the guy with the outstretched arm regardless of what angle you attach it.

I'm hoping these new guys have enough adjustability and interchangeability to not look terrible and have pricing in the range of the Slave to Darkness or Kairic Acolytes, but we'll see I guess.

Boys have been long due for an update, so I'll happily accept these as a replacement (if that's indeed what they are).

Like it or not, Primaris have set a precedent that will likely be replicated by other factions, if only to keep up with the new scale.

Because gw has been doing more themed additions to armies. Last ork wave was speed freeks with a ton of buggies. This one is feral orks with skarboys and squig based units. Hopefully next one will be mek boy based with an ardboy/tankbusta kit, kff mek, upgrade sprue for the stompa and a new vehicle chassis to bring back some of the epic ork tanks.
