In the previous book sanguinary priests could take terminator armour and like many I kit-bashed a cool model that I can no longer use so I thought I'd write up rules for them.

Firstly can anyone think of any in-game reason they can no longer have TDA armour? Is a 2+/5++ too powerful on a model that is a buff character, I don't think so as most of the time you'll be using LOS to avoid him taking any hits. Even with the armour I don't think people would tank with him to avoid the risk.
Personally I think they don't get the option any more as there isn't a model and GW no longer likes conversions (cynical I know).

So looking at the BA book for other characters to compare costs to none of them are in the exact situation as the priest.

The Captain's option costs 6xMeltabombs and comes with a power weapon and stormbolter but doesn't use the 5++ of the terminator armour. Also he has three wounds and thus gets more use out of a better save.

The Librarian's option costs 5xMeltabombs, comes with no weapons but has a use for the 5++.

The Chaplain's option cost 5xmeltabombs and has a stormbolter but again he has no use for the 5++.

Using all three it's hard to see if they had a set pattern for costing the gear as the Captain makes out like a bandit with his power weapon and extra wound compared to the others so I think I'll ignore him and just use the similarly stated models to work out the priests cost.

I'll assume trading in grenades and weapons is a given and gives no points back.

A 2+ is 20pts assuming using the 5++ is 5pts and a stormbolter is 5pts. I made my old model using a powersword as that was the only option previously so I'll stick with that, cost 15pts. He's holding a chalic/Narthecium so doesn't use a stormbolter.

Overall cost for trading in power armour, grenades, chainsword for Terminator Armour with a power sword = 40pts
Also he would lose the ability to take an additional bolt pistol.

This looks pretty steep when compared to the captain and if you wanted to take a relic weapon you'd have to trade in a powersword you just paid for which burns but as these are homebrew rules I think that's ok.

What do people think, is my working correct or have I missed something? Most importantly would you be ok playing against it?

It seems to me the short answer to any "Why can't Sanguiniary Priests take...?" question would be making Sanguiniary Priests a Sergeant upgrade rather than a separate unit. (Precedent: Red Scorpions Chapter Tactics, any Sergeant can upgrade to Apothecary)
