im trying to sell my ork army and once i sell it im going to go into big nids. I am wondering if this is worth it or just try a different strategy, im trying to save money also so thats another reason i want to go big nids (i know tyranids is a swarm army.) I was just wondering what would be good tyranid wise and how you generally run nids, I dont have to codex you youll have to go into a little detail about the wargear your talking about (just what its good for and maybe a strength here or there is its notable)

Certainly better than small 'Nids.
I can tell you that the staples of the list are flying Hive Tyrants with twin-linked Devourers (it's the list's only effective AA), Venomthropes or Malanthropes (the cover save is invaluable for the big critters' survivability), and Zoanthropes (anti-heavy-armour firepower, plus the dice to Deny some clever sod Shrieking down your Carnifexes). Small bugs are used for screening and area denial (if a Drop Pod can't land within rapid-fire range of your Carnifexes turn one, so much the better) in addition to holding backfield objectives.

Ok, what are some good big nids that are really survivable or are most tyranid survivable

The FMC's are survivable on account of being Hard to Hit.
The Tyrannofex is also quite survivable, being the only 2+ model.
There is a Tyranid Tactica thread with reviews on almost every single unit (the community is just finishing up the last units) so you can get a good idea of what you want to put in your army.

Seriously who uses Carnifexes? I'd rather invest those points in Mawlocs and Exocrines that can reduce terminators to pulp
And honestly the only good thing about the Tyrannofex is its survivability...otherwise you dont want to be paying 200 points for a single torrent flamer or BS3 anti-tank gun that does 1 hit on average and takes off 0.5 HPs off an AV14 vehicle per turn

A lot of people use Carnifexes. Kit them out with 2x TL Devourers with BLW and they average nine S6 hits and easily forces wounds. Carnifexes are also one of the premier AT units in the Codex, naturally being S9 (most TMC's are S6). For 150 points, they are really good.
I agree somewhat about the Tyrannofex, you mainly pay for durability - but you never pay for the Rupture Cannon. I don't normally use it, but if I do, I give it a S5 AP 5 Haywire Template. Much better than the Rupture Cannon.

Flyrants, Dimachaeron, dakkafexes, malenthropes and possibly mawlocs.
OP, give this a read to get general ideas of everything: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000/Tactics/Tyranids(7E)

Well, I think an MC heavy Nids army is quite good in seventh edition.
The Flyrants supported by Crones, Zoanthropes, Venomthropes, Mawlocs and ground presence form a staple hard to deal with for each army out there.
