Is he even worth playing? You don't really get him into CC ranged and all.

? He's got a 12" move and T6 with the Mark of Nurgle on a bike, what's not to like?

The OP asked what if you ran one wihtout a bike or mount. Basically quite useless in most cases imo.

Jumppack?

AoBF Lord in a landraider/bunker with escape hatch with retinue. But i like Kharn more in this case.

See, the thing is that mellee lords need delivery. One way or another. If you stick him with simple footslogers, the question is why haven't you taken a sorc instead? Or a named HQ that provides other bonuses other than being a beatstick.

1) They still unlock certain elites as troops
2) In low point games they are a very cheap platform for the Chaos Relic the Burning Brand of Skalathrax, and can inflict some serious damage when fired from a rhino in 500 point games
3) One with MoK, Plasma Pistol, VoTLW, AoBF, and SoC, can act as a 155 point Kharn the Betrayer equivalent
4) One in terminator armor gives the very valuable fearless rule to a squad of terminators. The IoV would be cheaper at 35 points, yes, but you get some more wounds and attacks by taking the lord, as well as open up the icon for something else, like the Icon of Excess for FnP.
EDIT: Hell, fearless is actually useful on lots of stuff, not just termies.

That's all I got, I'm sure there are more uses.

Yep, unlocking stuff as troops is somewhat useful. Till the update hits. See, a termie lord is not bad as is. He can still deepstrike with oblits or termies. But he's generally outperformed by a biker/jugger lord with fast retinue or at least a guy with a landraider or infiltrate/escape hatch. Just due to being faster.

Deep striking a Terminator Lord with three Obliterators. Kinda pricey, but when used right, it shatters a flank.

2k pts Tyranids (Hive Fleet Hornet)

So is deepstriking 3 obliterators without a lord
But that's a sound tactix for 2k + games.

Haha. A 155 point equivalent to a HQ choice that cost 160 points and is basically better in every way....

You sought to cower behind your walls, weakling? Instead, by the will of Khorne, you shall die behind them

But would you play Kharn then? Rather not, huh?

I think since you cannot put him into a vehicle, it's really a problem to get him into action.

I play kharn every single game. With a land raider. It's expensive. But so worth it.

Was talking about the Terminator Lord not being able to go in a vehicle. That's the advantage of Kharn: He can be put in a transport.

Misread. Without a mount I'd stick him in a Storm Eagle, personally. Like a LR but cheaper and better.

I think the Sorcerer in termie armour complements the 3 oblits better than the Lord does.

A Lord with jumpacks (use the wings from the possessed kit) works pretty well. I got tired of him getting killed by str 8 weapons though and have since moved on to a proper Jugger Lord.
A foot slogging lord should only be taken if you don't want to invest points in an HQ.

I second the jump pack lord.

In particular on a table with lot's of buildings or other truly LOS/move blocking terrain a unit of raptors with a lord attached opens up a lot of tactical options

Chaos Lord w/jumppack, Raptor squad, Mark and Icon (Khorne), mix well and serve over the corpse of you enemies. You generally only need a handful left with the lord to mess up a squad of jsut about anything.

I've also stuck him in a blob of cultists or CSM and marched them across the board, and run until I'm in charge range. No it might not get into close combat but it will draw a lot of fire because nobody wants that to get there, even turn 3 or 4. Limit the options you through on these blobs 1-2 point(s) per model sounds cheap until you have 20 or 30 of them.

Chaos. Good News

Dreadclaw is an idea, but not everybody likes to play it.

What I've come up with is the Land Raider. You can equip it with a Havoc Launcher for fire power in itself and it can transport 4 Terms + a Chaos Terminator Lord which seems just about nice for me. Not the cheapest option, but if played right, I think it can be wrecking.

Basic Lord as HQ tax to provide fearless to cultist / renegade blob is an alternative use for them.
