this is going to be a serious break out game, in one day it went over 1 Mil. in pledges

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/elanlee/exploding-kittens?ref=nav_search

This is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats.

Exploding Kittens is a highly strategic kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette. Players take turns drawing cards until someone draws an exploding kitten and loses the game. The deck is made up of cards that let you avoid exploding by peeking at cards before you draw, forcing your opponent to draw multiple cards, or shuffling the deck.

The game gets more and more intense with each card you draw because fewer cards left in the deck means a greater chance of drawing the kitten and exploding in a fiery ball of feline hyperbole.

The game was created by Elan Lee (Xbox, ARGs), Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal), and Shane Small (Xbox, Marvel). We think this game combines all the things we're best at creating, and and put together this Kickstarter campaign because we can't build this without you.

So if you're into card games or laser beams or weaponized enchiladas, please help us make this game a reality. We think you'll love it as much as we do.

Hugs and enchilada kisses,

-Elan, Matt, and Shane.

1M by a first-time creator has its risks, but they've consulted Cards Against Humanity, and it's only a card game.

My thoughts exactly.

But almost 42,000 people (at the time of writing) seem to think $35+shipping for a card game which amounts to russian roulette is awesome.

Good for them I suppose...

There are also cards which allow you to alter the draw, as well as do other game impacting things. Plus as a lover of the Oatmeal I am quite happy to back this project regardless of whether the game is actually any good as I know that I will get a laugh out of the cards if nothing else.

you miss the whole point Sining, the card game is supposed to be pointless, its to have fun with the whole family (except the NSFW deck), as it goes I just now backed it just because the cards shown are hilarious, but what can I say I have a sense of humour.

... you can not back this card game? Develop a sense of humour? Make up your own game using the cards? Wait to see what stretch goals are added?

Well Sining might not like it, but obviously over 43K other people do.

Video made it look pretty fun to me, plus I can bring it out when we babysit(or the NSFW deck when friends come over). Win/win(win) for me.

As far as playing Russian Roulette goes, I haven't lost a game yet!

It'll slow down soon. Then there'll be a long twenty some odd days of little to no activity, and then the 2-day notice emails will go out and it'll pick back up again.

I'm curious what will happen if it does not slow down ?

I would be very surprised if it did not slow down. Even the most popular KS's of all time had a big boost at the start, a slower middle period and a kick at the end.

It would be a very odd and unique case. It's a long kickstarter-30 days. Breaking a million a day would definitely be a record. So I guess if it didn't slow down it would make quite a bit of money?

Like others here, I think this looks terrible.

But then again, it's KS, where bandwagony hipsters gave $50K to a dude for potato salad.

I'd rather spend my money on a game like Bang or, well, any number of party gamee they aren't just cheap branding money grabs.

It's cool that it is, and that's great for those interested, but curating my collection of hobby crap has matured past "substance less game sold on branding alone."

With that being said, I do think the oatmeal is sometimes funny.

I love how this post slightly insults everyone who pledged for this.

Oh well, at least it isn't another PVC miniatures kickstarter.

Eh. It's a part of internet communication. Hard to understand how someone says something.

I like Bang too, and plenty of other board/card games. This game seems easy to learn, has plenty of interaction, and a good theme to get people interested in playing.

Plus it's only $20 with shipping included.

Thats actually part of my problem. $20, to me, seems about twice the price this "game" should be via comparison.

All good, though.

Looking at it again, 56 cards and a box is pretty steep for $20. Knock off about $5 for shipping and you end up paying $5 for the Oatmeal style art.

Will probably be cheaper to get it retail off amazon in a few months if you don't have the, "Gotta have it first! NOW! NOW! NOW!" mentality, or another reason you want to get it early. Unless thy only sell it through the Oatmeal's website or something, then who knows how much they'll charge.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I first thought it was about blowing up cats.

In all seriousness, it looks awesome! And you teaming up with the Oatmeal is epic. Unfortunately I can't back you, but I might buy it if it becomes a thing.

My mind just finished rebooting after looking over the kickstarter.

Over $4-million and climbing and I have never seen or heard anything about the people involved. The game looks cool for a party game - the kind of thing I can play when people are over that wouldn't touch a home console or boardgame.

But $35 seems a bit much for the NSFW deck which is the only one I'm really interested in. Will check back before the end for hopefully a better value.

Its really pretty sad that they don't have any real stretch goals prepared at all.

They hit the 100K backers, and have literally nothing else prepared. But at least they did have a disingenuous "it's all about the backers" statement to provide.

I'm thinking they already had stretch goals prepared, but we blew past them all in the first couple hours. I'm betting they didn't think they'd get over 100k, and they're redoing their graphics of tryin to figure out a realistic price point.

I doubt backers would want to know we've already unlocked everything. Wait 20+ more days and we'll get to work!

Really?

The Oatmeal is WILDLY popular.
