Wanted a bit of a change from the usual armies and love the newest DE models.

However, huge ranked blocks really isnt my thing.
Would it be possible to run a pure cav core to the army?

Granted, it cannot do a great deal, but the heavy lifting would be for other things to do.

Hydra's and kharibdyss's could be doing the main bulk of the work.
Due to playing 2k points, this means i could easily run a mix of 4 of them for helping to break down units.

Just wanted to see what people thought and if this was viable or not.
Granted its low model count, but need to try to make up for it a bit.
Not looking for insanely competitive, just an army that can hold its own with everything mounted or a monster.

Thanks.

Works better in end times, where you get more options for cav, and more options for monsters.

Dark Riders and silver helms for core, dragon prince and cold one knights as specials, along with a hydra, kharibdyss and phoenix.

To be honest, i rather try and stick to a single army instead of this allies idea (not into the 40k version either)

I rather run a pure force.

It kind of tips my OCD to have 2 different elements in an army.
Also, it would mean buying HE and DE books plus Kaine ontop of that.

After spending over £100 i could finally start buying models then :(

Easily done, even more so in the new book.

Dark Riders for core. You can either take them as Medium Cav (10+, FC, shields, no RXBs), Mobile shooting (5 with musicians, RXBs with or without shields).

Special can be divided between Cold One Knights and Cold One Chariots (for the heavy hitting) and Scourgerunner Chariots (for mobile fire support).

Monsters - well, the hydra is better against troops, the K-beast is better against other monsters and multiwound models.

Characters are where things get interesting. Having a lot of monsters makes a Beastmaster a viable choice. But dragons and (especially!) manticores can be so fragile, it's often better to go with Dark Steeds or Dark Peggies.

A variation that can catch people by surprise is to take a Cauldron or Shrine. They do qualify as mounts...
