Subject: [40K] How did Orks win the 2015 Alabama Cage Match?

A green tide won the Alabama Cage Match this year and I think the same guy came in second at the Red Stone Rumble.
I run a tide and am lucky to squeeze out a few wins.
Does anyone know how to run one effectivly at a competitive level?

The opponent most likely got board and left the building to go live life. So orks won by default.
I'm an ork player, I'm allowed to make that statement

And i will be crushing his soul game one of the LVO. I will use his tears to thin the paint of my future miniatures. Then I will use his orks to construct a bust of Ghandi, the father of passive resistance in honor of the new ork strategy to mire blitzing armor in the greenskin blood and bone. Then I will win Games Workshop.... and the Internet.

I'd say its a safe bet the player was good, knew what he was doing and used his list to the best of his ability, probably got a bit lucky and then won that way.
Orks aren't the top codex... nor are they they top lists... but lists don't win games (but having a good one certainly makes it easier!).... players do.

I came in 4th with my Tau and play against the winner's army quite a lot(we both play at the same local store). Firstly, he is a very good player and has been playing Orks for litterally over two decades. Secondly, his army was very well tuned for the mission itself, which is a combination of Purge, Crusade, a type of objective based Maelstrom(i.e. hold X number of objectives this turn), and a King of the Hill objective(basically, a Relic that can't move), plus the normal secondaries. Basically, his goal is to get ahead on one or two missions and a secondary or two and the out grind you with the 140+ boys(I think thats what he ended up with).
His list works by very meticulous model placement and movement, as well as mixing in a variety of upgrades, like big shootas, a bunch of power klaws, and armor, and then reacting to your strategy. Can you out shoot him? Then he shields his power klaws with boys long enough to move up and multi-charge everything you have. Going to try and sit back and use a bunch of templates on him? He will spread out as much as possible, get a quick kill point with his big shootas and lobbas' then out wait you(which is what he did to my FE Tau)
Want to get him in CC? Well, thats a lot of boys and klaws again.
There were a couple lists there that could have given him trouble; the other Tau player with the 9 broadsides would have caused problems and there was a daemon player(who came in 2nd) that, had he gotten off all the Cursed Earths like he did against me, could have chewed him up pretty well in CC. He didn't end up pulling either of them though.
In the end, his list wouldn't be as competitive in like a typical Maelstrom mission from the book with more dynamic scoring. However, he's still a very good player and he understands the game well enough that he was able to really play his list to the mission. Similar story with the Rumble, he was able to play to the mission really well.
