If you can get them as dedicated transports then you can take as many as you want. You can take up to three by themselves.

Do you even bother reading the rulebooks and/or codices?

Be nice. I somehow missed the whole drop pod cruising speed thing when I came back to 7th.

Prolly would be nice if it was anyone but the poster. I think everyone's patience is done with him.

But to answer anyway, Transports that take a Fast Attack slot can be purchased as a Fast Attack choice. Dedicated Transports purchased by a squad have not changed at all.

To be fair that's not exactly a bolded statement while the DT thing is listed in unit entries in the codex itself.

Deathwind launcher is terrible. It forces you to stop the game and spend ten minutes firing one unit, if you could get penalized for delay of play the Deathwind Drop Pod would get you that penalty for writing it down in your army list.

Martel732, I believe you are talking about the Deathwind Missile Launcher in the stock Drop Pod.

AnomanderRake is probably talking about the Deathstorm Drop Pod, which gets to fire at a bunch of different units on the turn that it drops.

How does it take that long to fire? It has 2 weapons.

And Wyverns in 6th took longer.

You can take them as EITHER Fast Attack (not dedicated to a unit, so anyone can start embarked, including Battle Brother Allies) or Dedicated (in which case only the unit they were bought for can begin the game embarked).

The rules are only printed in FA to save doubling up.

So you can put any Imperial model in the game in a Drop Pod.

Its not like this is a new situation. Land Raiders have been an option as a Dedicated Transport or as a Heavy Support choice in multiple codices for many years.

The tone of 7th edition is to give players more freedom and flexibility in their list building. This change allows players the option to purchase a transport for units that normally do not have access to them. If a units entry allows the unit to purchase a dedicated transport that DT does not take up a slot in your detachment. However, you now have the option to purchase the transport as a non-dedicated transport but it will cost you a fast attack slot.

Its exactly like Land Raiders being purchased as dedicated transports for other units. A land raider purchased on its own will take a heavy support slot. If, however, it is purchased as a DT for a unit of Terminators (for example) then it does not take up any slot and has the same battlefield role as the unit it was purchased for.

Unbound armies can technically purchase units listed in the 'dedicated transports' section of 6th edition or older codices (please not, this is a contested subject so always speak to your opponent about it before list building). These units are not being purchased as dedicated transports and lack a battlefield role if purchased this way. In my opinion moving all the formerly dedicated transports to the fast attack section of the codex may be a way for the design teams to correct this issue. In my local group we have agreed to house rule that any DT not purchased for a unit in an unbound army counts as fast attack if and when the issue ever comes up.

Also - not every codex has access to their dedicated transports as fast attack choices - only the more recent ones. Vanilla marines and Eldar for example have no option to select their dedicated transports as fast attack choices

Kronk has the right of it, misread. The Deathstorm tosses d3 shots at every unit within 12" or 18" or something of it, you can easily stop the game for ten minutes to fire one unit.
