By pseudo, I mean shoot at ground targets and flying targets the same. Personally I think they are overcosted, and this would really bring a cool looking model back on the board in a lot of cases.

They're AV 10 with two hull points. They'll be way too fragile whatever you do to them; right now they're an effective suicide unit and not much else. Some sort of move-shoot-move on top of a Skyfire option would help a lot.

Don't know, a bunch of AC landspeeders with optional skyfire would be super effective imo. It's some sort of a Stormtalon lite. Worse protection but cheaper and on board turn 1.
I think it'd make them quite viable. Maybe just get a slight point increase for this optional skyfire upgrade? Oh, and what about other skimmers/jetbikes? Would they get it? I can easilly depiction a bunch of deffkoptas going for the kill up high!

Why not something like this?
Tempest Shielding: A recently recovered STC wafer unearthed on Mars revealed the once-lost Mechanicus secret of flare shielding. While it is only being tested at the moment, some success has been had using the shields to enclose the cockpits of light skimmers to allow them to act in a more atmospheric role. Once per game at the start of any turn, the Land Speeder may declare it is activating its Tempest Shield. The Land Speeder gains the Flyer type until the end of the player turn.25 points.
