So my friend has decided to buy a vindicare assassin to deal with my HQ and vehicles, so I'm just wondering how to kill? It has 72" range and he will always place it in ruins to give it a 3+ or 2+ cover. We normally play with a lot of terrain so deep striking a monolith and swarming him isn't really an option, any help would be really great thanks

Ignore him.
Vindicares aren't that scary.

Kind of agreed. A vindicere assassin is good, but not lethal.

You still get Look Out Sir (albeit reduced), and necron characters take some killing.

Between hitting, wounding, look out sir and annoying necronishness, it can take realistically upwards of a dozen rounds to drop an overlord, even with hellfire bullets.

Equally, a turbo-penetrator may be S10, but that still only takes a hull point off a monolith every other shot.

A shield-breaker ignores a wraith's invulnerable save...but it's otherwise a normal sniper rifle which only wounds every other shot.

Vindiceres are [really] scary against two specific types of model - special squad models like heavy weapons, icon bearers and apothecaries (which you don't have) and lightly armoured, jink-dependent skimmers (which you also don't have).

I would pointedly avoid taking royal courts if you don't need to, avoid quantum shielded tanks (S10 shots aren't great at destroying them but do a nice line in dropping the shields for autocannon fire), and he'll struggle to have any meaningful effect on the game, especially now sniper rifles aren't pinning any more.

Charge him with a small number of scarabs or flayed ones.

The only thing he should be good at is breaking quantum shield

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

They can be hell on ghost arks. Quantum shielding gone on a 4+, and +2 to the damage roll on a pen.

Send tomb blades after him to get to the ruins he's almost certain to be hiding in at the back of the table. Movement + ignore cover shooting.

Send a bunch of Scarabs off chasing him. Or get any infantry in rapid-fire range. Vindicares are much scarier on paper than they are in practice; mine loves to whiff turn one and die.
