Hmm. Ten Grotesques and a Haemonculus with a WWP?

It's cheaper than a Corpsethief Claw.

Corpsthief claw is actually almost a deathstar in it's own right. The amount of damage it can take is pretty ridiculous.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

That's a good sucker punch unit, but how is it a Deathstar? It has virtually no survivability.

I wouldn't say DE have an out and out deathstar, such like centstar, where a whole list revolves around 1 unit doing all the heavy lifting.

What DE have are some mini-stars, I mean 10 grots with haemy with WWP, CTC, both those while not being a 'deathstar', will certainly do some serious work. They are extremely durable as the game progresses and will mulch a lot of things in combat if given the chance.

Favourite Game: When your Warboss on bike wrecks 3 vehicles simply by HoW - especially when his bike is a custom monowheel.

Yeah, I totally agree with this. DE don't have the equivalent of a Centstar, 6th edition Seer/Screamer Star, Farsight Bomb, etc. We have units that are super killy with decent resilience (Grotesquerie/Grot Bomb and CtC) and we have (one) unit that is super resilient but only somewhat killy (DA). But I don't think we have one unit that is both. However! DA working in conjunction with a CtC and/or Grot Bomb is pretty close to a proper death star.

In general I prefer not having a deathstar, as I find deathstars (while they can be reliable) often rely on certain powers, or doing a certain trick over and over. While this could be said for the DE units (move, charge, kill), I find like a gating centstar is just;

I move here, I kill you, I absorb all your shooting, I move there I kill you.
Its no fun (imo) for the opponent, and the only fun you get as the player is that it results in wins, I mean you wouldn't play a deathstar if it never won you a game would you? but you'd play a fluffy list fully well knowing its a disadvantage.

I just prefer the option of actually being able to play tactically if I so chose to do so.

But OT; I agree with sweetbacon, playing some strong large units that work well together can be great fun.

Thanks, great feedback.

Since I joined this site, I have found a new respect for coven armies. I have always been big on the Kabal, but with the fun stuff that keeps getting brought up using the supplement, I can't deny the killing potential of the covens.

Thanks again.

Today had my Dark Artisan fight 7 Wolf Guard Terminators (all with TH / SS), a Wolf Lord in Runic and a Wolf Libby.

Wolf Lord killed my Haemy in a Challenge.

But Talos and Cronos managed to kill everything else.

Its a decent CC Deathstar, as long as it doesn't get ID'ed.

It is tough to do with DE, as you just can't get enough points into 1 unit. Most expensive normal unit is around 350 points, and the corpse thief comes in at ~600+, but cannot be buffed by characters, and is slow.

What you can do is the Quadruple threat.
A maxed out Grotesquire, with 2 units of 10 grotesques, + Haemonculus with web way.
Then add in a real space raiders detachment with minimum troops, 2x12 Reavers (4 caltops per units) led by another haemonculus with web way.
Finally, add a Combined arms detachment of eldar with 2 jet-seers and minimum troops (2x3 guardian bikes).

The farseers each join a reaver unit, and the haemonculus each lead a unit of 10 buffed grotesques. It gives you 4 really solid hammers, and 4 throw away troops.

While not a death star, any one of those units is more than a match for most enemy units.

I do like the Grotesquerie formation. (Although $25 per Grot is an insane cost and I can't even buy them through games workshop right now, because they stopped making models, plus the Longshoremen are on strike WTF, YOU GET PAID $45 AN HOUR AND THAT AINT ENOUGH TO WORK HARD FOR?) sorry...

That being said I think the maxed out Grotesquerie is great face poundage and giving them Haemies with WWP is definitely on my list of favorite tactics.

But why can't the CtC be buffed by being joined by a Haemie with a WWP, or something? I don't remember that being a restriction? Am I misunderstanding?

Not really. You provide fantastic delivery tools for a Wraithblade deathstar, though.

I like backing up a Corpsethief Claw with a Telepathy Farseer. Invisibility or Shrouding really helps them out.

Wow, that is messed up fun. I was hoping for an DE exclusive deathstar, but that is pretty mean.

Monstrous creatures may not join or be joined by independent characters.

The Dark Artisan has a specific rule in the formation that allows the Haemy, Talos and Chronos to form a unit.

True, but a Farseer on a bike can largely zip around buffing people, largely with impunity.

Exact reason I intend to bring one! i've been largely considering a list like this;

DA + groteserie / or the detachment; so 2HQ and 2elites (dependent on how much I want to spend on DE basically, but in general I want a Grot bomb or two and potentially some talos)
RSR;Succubus ,Archon, 2x warriors and venoms
Eldar; Farseer on jetbike, Spiritseer, Wraithguard, direavengers, wraithknight

So it would be something like this;

Grot bomb (5-7models) with haemy
Grot bomb (3models) with succubus

Troops
Wraithguard(cannons) with a spiritseer and archon with WWP
dire avengers - potentially inside a raider
2x warriors in venoms

Wraithknight

General premise being the wraithknight starts on the board alongside the jetseer.
The rest of the list DS's, having 3 heavy hitting units, with a large grot bomb and a smaller grot bomb with a glaive succubus (aiming at grots being a durable meat shield that pump out high volume of hits with rampage, while succubus deals out the AP2 pain!), while the wraithguard provide some serious high Str shooting. Venoms and warriors provide some Anti-infantry alongside the dire avengers.

this is the general idea of the list and I can add/take away as required, but overall its aimed for having multiple high T units pinpoint deepstrike, enclosing/surrounding an army while the venoms and shooty units DS around/behind my grot bombs to provide shooting into my pincer moves. With powers I should be able to throw around some nice buffs and really make some scary units. I mean some of the runes of battle powers would work so well on units like grots, increased armour values, LD debuffs, conceal. So much fun to be had!
