I'm sure this comes up a lot...

I'm looking for non GW alternative models.

Specifically to Chaos, Imperial Guard and Orks.

Any advice or ideas would be welcome.

kromlech makes some great ork stuff, especially their meganobz which is what I use. But the faces are terrible, so I use gw faces.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

Kromlech also makes bodies / legs / helmets / weapons which can be used by all flavors of marines - including some chaos specific stuff. Hell, they even have alternative guard.

Spellcrow makes alternate marines and orks just like kromlech.

Anvil Industries has a bunch of stuff you could use for guard or marines.

For IG, you have more options than you can shake a bayonet at!

Infantry, cheap and cheerful but look great when painted up en masse:

The original Warzone plastics, now available from Prince August games. About £20 for a bag of 80, these guys are surprisingly detailed, the only issue being little conversion potential.

Greatcoat troopers from Wargames Factory. DKoK-lite, these guys have soft-ish detail, but tons of bitz and look cool when you have dozens of them.

Mantic Corporation Marines share a similar design and scale to the Forge World Elysians, so are great if you want true-scaled and high-tech Guard.

Going more expensive, you have the Eisenkern Stormtroopers from Dreamforge, very high detail but still cheaper than GW. Their armour makes them great for Stormtroopers and Grenadiers.

Mad Robot, Victoria Minis and Anvil all do not-IG lines, at higher cost that GW but all in resin and very highly detailed.

For tanks, you can get stuff from Ramshackle Games that is similar to GW in price but a different look, whille an Ebay search for 'Bronekorpus Battle Tank' will show up a very cheap tank (as in £5) that fits fine as a Chimera or similar.

Just seen the big bag O' Minis. They're not bad at all tbh.

Thanks for the input guys.

It's easy enough to glue some meltas, flamers, perhaps even plasmas into them. Talking from experience here

Agreed. The sprues also offer tons of extra bits (weapons and heads mostly). A bit of green stuff may be needed to assemble the arms properly if anyone intends to get some special weapons into them, though.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

I think I'm going to with the Eisenkern Troopers from Dreamforge.

They are some of the nicest sculpts I've seen in a very long time.

Just got to find an appropriate codex for them.

I like alot of the models Mantic games offers. I think they're worth checking out. Slightly limited, but they constantly seem to be releasing new stuff for their Deadzone setting so they can eventually flesh out Warpath.

ALL HAIL THE ORKISSIAH, TRINARY SPEAKING GOD OF ORK TECHNOLOGY. (Unlike wimpy old Binary, Orks have commands for Yes, No AND "Maybe")

Your best bet would be IG or Militarum Temptestus. Their armour is ideally suited to Carapace armour, so you could run them as either Scions (MT or Elites in IG) or as Carapace Armoured Veterans (Troops in the IG codex) or both with suitably different markings/schemes. Find some less-armoured Infanty to use as Platoons in the case of IG (or do an All-Vet army, quite fun with loads of Special Weapon fire) and you should be good to go.

I was looking at the war zone plastics, man thats a steal! I got an IG friend who would probably pick some up. From a looks perspective though how would you guys run those minis? As vets? I think they look a tad to armoured for normal infantry platoons or conscripts

I just run them as Platoon Infantry, using the MGs as Heavy Bolters or Autocannons. Aside from the leg plates, they have no more armour than your average Cadian.

Cool, thanks, I might pick them up for my friend as a nice surprise, he really needs more men (he's sitting around 1000 points but thats only because he upgrades a lot of guys and uses vets)

Warzone plastic bauhaus and Imperial are fine as regular IG troopers. There are many degrees of armoring of grunts in IG fluff. More than enough to encompass the warzone figs.

Need to buy me some war zone now. That is a ridiculous price for so many models, especially considering the quality.

I have bought several things for my 40k orks over the years from kromlech. My favorite are my fatty ork bikers that Iam modeling. Nothing like a fat ork on a bike
