The Last Chancer Who Survived

I'm starting up a Black Templars army, and I intend to use the BT chapter tactics (even if there are better ones). But I've not played any Marines since 5th edition, and I'm struggling to make a balanced-looking list that I like.
I have some IG to ally with, but I can't seem to get either of them to compliment eachother in a fluffy way.
Does anyone have some suggestions on how to play a BT army in a semi-effective fluffy way? I'm not adverse to rule-of-cool one trick ponies.

Crusader squads in LRCs.
Swamp them in the ObSec AV14 Black Tide.
Take Helbrecht to boost them to get over any bigger threats.

Haha well his ideas are great but you should look to really play to their CC powers in challenges. Every one gets rerolls and rending so toss a LIghtning claw on ur sword bros for some great reroll hits and wounds in chalanges with rending and ap3. The Emps champ is a great addition for cheep into any bt army. Load up that LRC with a crusade squad and helzB toss 2 10 mans into rinos and a vet squad/ comand squad in a razorback with empchamp/ Chaplin. Fill with some heavy tank killers and or assault squads with meltas and or drop pods with dreads.

Only characters in a challenge get re-rolls to hit and rending, not everyone...

Only characters can challenge, so when mentioning challenges, everyone gets it.

Oh, I didnt see him mention challenges. I think a Power Maul would be better than a Lightning Claw in a challenge, if you're hoping to maximise the use the Chapter Tactics. Sure a LC gets Shred, but a Power Maul will be S6. Plus, LC are specialist weapons, so a Power Maul gives you an extra attack with a Bolt Pistol.

the reason i chose a LC over the maul is the maul reduces you to I 2, in that case ur sword bro dies to a power sword and ur chapter T is useless. ST6 is nice for a lot of things tho.

Maul is at initiative, and also has the concussive rule. Axe is Unwieldy.

I think razorback rush would work very well with crusaders.
Also Assault marines can jump into rhinos and fulfill your need for chainswords while adding FREE LOS blockers.
For under 500pts you can have 4 MSU 4 "tanks" and plenty of points for elites and heavies and HQs. If you want your fast attack open, 600pts for 4 TL LC and 4 Tac squads isnt too shabby.

Do they have any way of getting scout or infiltrate? Cause Crusader makes them pretty fast with 3d6 - pick highest run moves. Black tide might be much more viable now than n 6-th.

Inquisitor Ally. Liber Hereticus. before the game begins he can make a LD check, if passed he gives the unit he is attached to Scout. So you can either put him with a unit in their dedicated transport and scout the LRC 12" forward, or just put him with a full 10/10 crusade squad and scout them 6" forward.
And while you're taking allies, ally in some Blood Angels and stick a sanguinary priest in there for +1 WS and FNP.

A LRC getting to move that much is really gonna hurt my Ultramarine friend

True. However, the Axe is AP2 and the Maul is only AP4. I play against a lot of Space Marines and Chaos Space Marines running around with 3+ armor saves. AP is more important to me. Personally, I'm fine with a Power Sword. AP3 at initiative is cool beans.
