A new Deus Ex game has been announced. The Facebook announcement (includes a trailer) can be seen here -

https://www.facebook.com/DeusEx?fref=ts

Steam also has a page up for it, with the same trailer.

Unfortunately, the official site seems to be "down" at the moment (visiting it leads to a blank page - i.e. no error messages, but no content either). There's also a new app in the iOS store called "Deus Ex Universe". At the moment, it doesn't contain anything of real value (it contains entries for Human Revolution and Mankind Divided, but only a few lines of text on the latter). Presumably that will change in the future.

The trailer suggests the following -

Jensen survived the end of the previous game (obviously). One of the scenes in the trailer shows him floating in the water while the silhouette of a VTOL hovers overhead. The implication in the trailer is that this is what happened after the end of the previous game.

Individuals with augments are heavily discriminated against, and forced to live in ghettos. The trailer primarily focuses on what appears to be an augment terrorist cell.

Jensen is aware of the Illuminati, and wants to stop them.

The video seems to show a *very* action-oriented Jensen. On the other hand, some stealth abilities are shown. So it's too early to say whether the action focus in the trailer means that the game will be more of an action game than its predecessors, or whether it was an artistic decision.

Meh.

Didn't buy Human Revolution because they took away character customization, so I don't have any particular attachment Mr "Generic White Guy" Jensen. The action scenes seem okay, but nothing spectacular. Stealth abilities seem neat though. Just don't really see anything that stands out.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

After building up a Stealth and blade character and actual world manipulation character and then being stuck in a small room with a grenade and chain gun wielding boss that ignored the sniper rifle rounds to the fething face that I gave him, I dropped Human Revolution. Skill Trees that encourage 'different methods of gameplay' and then boss fights that FORCE run and gun and to hell with every other skill point you ever sank into crap is not how an RPG should be.

I like the concept, I like the world, I like the visuals of the characters and damn do I like the sunglasses, but as far as gameplay they are going to have to wow many people before I sink a dollar into the game. I'd rather read a book about Deus Ex than play that game again.

Hmmm. Enjoyed DXR the first time around but it had none of the replayability of the original, not even by half.
And Jensen was terrible, typical broody, reluctant hero tedium of so many other games.
This looks very action orientated too which has me fearful. Will keep an eye out however.
They need to take the best parts from #1 and DXR and leave out the holes from both.

I like Deus ex. I am kind of a big fan, so that means you will never hear me say a bad thing about it... Wait that doesn't sound right. I am a big fan so I will do nothing but complain about it. I hate the trailer. I think it totally misrepresents what DX is and should be.

The plot premise sounds very disappointing, likewise for the trailer. Promising a game experience I don't look or expect in a Deus Ex franchise.

D**n beat me to it. I'm looking forward to this.

Oh btw and to everybody already complaining this is just a trailer showing action. Anybody remember how Deus Ex: Human Revolution was nothing like the original trailer for the game or should i remind all of you?

Here's the old Deus Ex: HR trailer to show what i mean.

How come? I thought that game was absolutely fantastic but then i never played the other two. I hear the 2nd was bad but the mobile game was the worst.

The boss fights were the result of handing them over to another company. Hopefully they've learned their lesson in that regard.

The Director's Cut version of the game made the fights somewhat more palatable for other builds.

The original at least, was stellar for its time, when it comes to story elements you had far more thought provoking ideas and dialogues. One thing I absolutely loved is how in case of you've decided to lethally eliminate your opposition, characters in the game will respond differently and you're even given an order to execute rather than capture in few cases and you can make a choice not to pull the trigger and face the consequences. The scene where you can make the last stand with your brother or leave him and try to make a run for it was also one of more memorable decisions you could make.

Invisible War had a steep mountain to climb. It's decent and for various aspects I prefer playing it over HR. The class difference, unfairness when it comes distribution of technology, brave new world, purists (Templar) vs. augmented and so on. They've really goofed the ending and the game was plagued by various bugs, which is a shame.

Human Revolution is all right, but compared to original it has far less ideas and seems far more straightforward rather encouraging stealth and finding alternatives. In the original you could learn kill switch commands and avoid two boss fights, I thought that was far nicer than tedious re-loads and gun fights.

I know that Deus Ex: HR encouraged stealth in the hardest difficulty or at least most of the time. It also gave you more XP for non-lethal and stealth actions. For instance if you moved through an entire section without being discovered you got a crap ton of XP. Of course i think you were able to go back and knock-out everybody once you got the stealth XP for even more XP.

I dunno i didn't play the first two but i found it to be fantastic. I personally thought the story was great. I just ya know expected adam jensen to be dead having made the choice it seems to show in the trailer. Honestly i dunno how i feel about him still being alive. I loved him as a character but i kind of feel the story is less perfect with that ending. I guess we'll have to see.

Press button 1, 2 or 3 for ending 1, 2 or 3. That's trash tier game design.

Its basically a superior version of ME3's ending, in that the choices are actually interesting.
Still not very impressive though.

No, I just said DEHR's version of doing it was better.

What choice? We literally have no idea as to what happened to the world because of his choicd, just why he made the choices he did.

To me, I look at that trailer and see a cyber-Dishonoured. And I'm ok with that, because Dishonoured was enjoyable as a quick slash-em-up fix. So I'll probably end up getting this. I won't expect it to be Jade Empire, but I think its a safe bet that it won't be Ride to Hell (at least according to what I've heard about it)

The one where you blow yourself up along with Pancea.
It was pretty clear that Jensen dies in that ending; it flat out tells you before you press the button.

Three, actually.
There's a Sarif ending, a Taggart ending and a don't blow yourself up ending.

I wanted to see what the world would be like if one were to go with the dead Jensen path.

What confused me is that i was fairly certain most said dead jensen is the canon ending so is this an alternate universe ending or did they sort of plot device him to life?

AFAIK, there's no "canon" ending. That's the point of having multiple endings (and Invisible War fudged the ending choices of the first game). The Mankind Divided trailer shows Jensen floating facedown in water, surrounded by wreckage, which could be the end result of what he did in HR. And, as was the case in Invisible War, it wouldn't surprise me if the game leaves it somewhat vague as to which choice you picked in HR, and instead blends all of them together.

We already know what the world would be like, regardless of which button you presses, because it's called Deus Ex 1. And that's why I had a hard time caring about the ending of DXHR, because, no matter what happened, DX1 and all of its events and history still happens. I still enjoyed playing DXHR nd experiencing its story, but the ending itself held no real meaning to me.

Just like with this new game. He's going to try to fight the Illuminati and the other hidden powers? So? We already know Bob Page "wins" with his MJ-12 organization. Sure, it may be enjoyable to watch it unfold, but, as a prequel, but I already know how it ultimately ends: Bob Page, Grey Death, UNATCO, and J.C. Denton.

If they're going to keep milking the Deus Ex franchise, then they should either do a remake of the original (as that seems to be the trend these days), or pretend DX2 never happened and start making sequels. I would prefer the second option, but I freely admit that a faithfully redone version of DX1 with all the new shiny graphics and gameplay possibilities could be good, if done right. Problem is, 99% chance it wouldn't be done right, and they'll feel the need to change stuff "because reasons."

I found HR to be on the lower end of enjoyable or higher end of "Kind of OK, I guess. Sorta". The sequel is definitely going to be a 60% off sale sort of purchase for me, but I'll play it.

Holy crap you guys are salty about this. I thought Deus Ex: HR was one of the more fantastic games i've played. What can make you guys so meh and underwhelmed about it. Same goes for the sequel after only showing the trailer which is probably there for a couple plot points and to show action of what adam can do. As we know not everybody will go the stealth path and sometimes action wows more than a bunch of stealth.
