Single CAD of any single SM chapter of your choosing.
Must contain exactly:
- 1x Company Commander or Chapter Master (or equivilant in your dex). Representative special characters are fine
- 6x 10-man tactical squads
- 2x 10-man assault squads
- 2x 10-man devastator squads
You can fill the rest of the points from any other legal selections within the single codex CAD.

To fit the narrative better and being more powerful in the game. It is better to take a command squad and also take say 3 droppods and 3 rhinos and 3 razorbacks as transport for your non-jump-pack infantry. Or just 9 transports of any kind. As a bonus, take 1 to 3 Dreadnoughts or Ironclad Dreadnought, and one of the walker can be the Veteran Dreadnought. have fun.

BA have a formation that pretty much fits this, and it gives both red thirst (+1 i on the charge) and obsec, so they probably have a leg up here.

Fluffy: UM pod company

Sicarius + command squad in pod, champ, apoc, 1x MG, 2x SS/PF

6x 10-man tacticals in pod, srgt with combi-melta, 1x MG

2x 10-man assault squad in pod, 2x flamer

2x 10-man devastators, 4x lascannons

1x TFC

2500 points on the dot.

5 pods dropping turn 1 with a bunch of melta and flamer goodness; the other pods can easily come in thanks to Sicarius reserve buff, Ld 10 across the board (no need for vets); 8 lascannons and a thunderfire cannon sitting in the back for heavy fire-support.

Well if you allow a white scars player to run a modified/ fluffy CAD he could pile in

4 x 10 tac squads flamer/mm or hb either drop pod or rhino
1x 10 assault squad 2 flamers
5 x 10 bike squads (2 w/ 2 grav, 2 plasma, 1w/ melta)
1 captain on bike with aa and the teeth
Command squad w/ 3 grav, 1 melta

Doesn't look bad, really needs another 1-200 pts to really flesh the army out though. Had to sacrifice a few upgrades I usually prefer to bring

Mostly curious what people's various takes were on the standard SM compant. It bugs me that it's such a non-competative approach (at least from my viewpoint), when it should be more of a core choice.

First, a true battle company needs a command squad, chaplain, and a handful of dreads (3 is a good number, but 2-5 is acceptable). Also, they work better at 3,000 points.

2840 points. WYSWYG on my shelf (need new pics, the ones in my gallery are out of date). The command squad’s razor is in line on the paint bench so not included. An ideal world would see 2 more drop pods and another rhino, so all the tacs and one more dread would have more mobility, but that’s unlikely to happen. Would put the points just about 3k though.
