So I noticed there is not a deamonkin codex tactic page. So I will start one here and start off with my recent game yesterday.
I played a game against IG and BA (friendly and helping a returning player) He likes scions and had some vets with bullgryn and yarrick, wyvern and a turox(correct me on spelling)1250 list.
His teammate was BA, no vehicles but had 2 dev squads,2 tac squads,1 Sang priest, 2 AM and DC. 1250.
I was allowed 2500 worth for deamonkin
I had to field 2 Slaughtercults (since I had did not have certain units to fill the other formations) my HQ was a DP with the armour that gives EW, 1 BT of khornes wrath, 1 chaoslord on a Jugg with the BT axe, 4 8 man bloodletter squads, ! zerker squad in a rhino, 2 Possesed foot sloggin, 3 Defliers, 8 man bike squad(I was allowed to field them in the Flesh hound formation without the hounds).
I went 2nd and we did basic maelstorm(cleanse & control). At first it was rough, Lost my BT to weight of fire from his vets and krak missiles.
around my turn 2, things changed very quick. I racked up a total of 8(actually more but 8 is the max :() The table has turned fairly quick, since most of my units are in CC now, Even the zerkers! We stopped at the start of Round 3 to finish later this week. But so far the table looks to anyones game, I plan on using 7 points to make my lord into a DP then summon a BT and hopefully another BT if the DP dies again.
What would be a good way to make DS more effecient? all my Bloodletters scattered 9"+ and 2 mishap.

Can you use an icon from a unit that DS first(sameturn) to have the next unit not scatter?

Ok that wouldve made it easier if I knew that....
Im kinda thinking having bloodcrushers would not be a bad idea.
with the overwhelming assault force and DS everywhere, It would be difficult for them to kill everything. Plus getting a blood point for losing a unit is a plus even if they dont do anything but absorb fire.

If we are going to have a tactics page we should go through the units in the codex with a point by point analysis of them and the formations. Of course, it would require a large amount of time to do so- of which no Daemonkin players have the time for apparently as no one has done it yet. Therefore, I dub players of the Khorne Daemonkin Codex to be "The Busiest of the Bunch"*. *Feel free to interpret this in any way you see fit.

Time is a hard thing for me to get :( But anyone willing to do it can post it here
I think with the Blood tithe table, makes it actually worth it to lost units and not afraid to use certain units labeled as "Bad"
Both of my possesed and Zerkers did very well despite running across the board and coming out of a rhino for Assault

How many Soul Grinders do you guys take for anti-air? Im building a take on all comers list. I was thinking of two to be safe since the rest of my army would just be taking meltaguns.

2 is a safe number. You can also field a hell turkey to help out a little bit. I only have defliers atm, but plan on getting 1-2 soulgrinders along with other khorne items

I usually dont bother with anti-air in my lists it is not enough of a threat and they cant play to the missions to justify using points that could be spent on more flesh hounds.
Seriously, fearless fnp, flesh hounds.
Throw in a Lord with something str 7/8+ to make sure they dont get locked with a vehicle(unless you want them to) and just cover the entire board with their gigantic bases. Hell with enoug flesh hounds they wont be able to land.
Take bloodletters as your 8 man tax, possessed naked in rhino and then as many cultists as you are allowed
Then fill the rest with all the good stuff.

Just had my 1st game with the new Daemonkin (at 1850):
My list:
Slaughtercult:
Bloodthirster of Fury (the cheapest one)
2x8 CSM - 1x Melta each
2x8 Cultists
Possessed
1x Spawn
1x Spawn
Lord of Slaughter:
Bloodthirster of Rage
Charnel formation:
Daemon Prince - Unique Armor, Flight, Weapon of Endless Bloodshed
2x8 Bloodletters - Sergeant
3x Bloodcrushers - Sergeant
7x Fleshhounds
So my idea was this, take lots of smaller units (i.e. Khorne MSU), rush forwards and then wrack up those points. I played against an Assault Tyranid army. Here are some key points of the game:
1. Bloodthirsters are awesome! My 2 thirsters killed 1 Melee Hive Tyrant, 3x Tyrant Guards, Tervigon, Haruspex, Trygon and Hive Crone.
2. It took a combined effort of both of my CSM shooting, crushers, spawn and possessed to deal with his large unit of 18 genestealers. Ironically, it was actually the Possessed - a unit I thought was just a waste - who finally took down the stealers and in close-combat!
3. I was finally able to summon 1 BT on Turn 3 and my opponent conceded afterwards.
4. I only lost the crushers, my D-thirster (rage) and 1 unit of cultists (which I killed off for 1 Blood Tithe (BT) point) in the game.
My Daemonkin actually performed a lot better than I thought, although my opponent didn't really bring a competitive list. My accumulation of BT points was slow mainly because my opponent's list only had 1 character - the hive tyrant - in his entire army. There was another guy running the Daemonkin that day, only he played against a MSU Guard army with lots of characters. By Turn 3, he had summoned his 2nd Bloodthirster!
I'll keep you guys updated with more games to come.

I want to make a list with Kharn in. As long as kharn is in a unit that has "Blood for the blood god!" rule, He can help get more blood tokens. Even better, he can help kill the unit for more
Just get 2 10 man squads of cultist, and you will be able to field kharn, which will add alot of killing power to that unit. Zerkers? or maybe even Bloodletters.

DO IT! Put Kharne in 1 unit and Skulltaker in another, backed up by 2 bloodthirsters. That would be a funny sight to behold.
BTW, you only need to take 1 unit of cultists as you can run CSM as allies.

Rhinos! RHINOS! Rhinos give you blood tithe when they die. Isn't that something, have a bunch of CSM with meltas/plasmas in them.
I noticed your skull chair boosts units such as Helbrutes and Maulerfiends. Make a melee walker phalanx!
I wasn't very impressed by the whole thing, but true fearless Bloodletters are a big improvement. I wonder if you could make a big blob out of them and get something done?

Oh im sorry, I was thinking of a CaD. With the new blood token system, Kharns betrayer rule is even better! "Oh he killed a few of my zerkers?! sweet! let the blood flow!"
I feel this also made it to where units that arent normally used , might have some hope to leave the shelf(looking at you bloodcrushers!). I will need to mess around with a few list to figure out what works best together. Automatically Appended Next Post: Rautakanki wrote:Rhinos! RHINOS! Rhinos give you blood tithe when they die. Kharne does not have the Blood for the Blood God! rule. Thus, he doesn't generate BT points for killing stuff (though if he is in a unit, the unit will) or fighting in challenges.

If the rules say a "unit" with this special rule instead of a "model" with this special rule then Kharn would be able to get all the benefits such as generating points

Well im not using kharn for killing characters, more for making the unit kill other units faster. If he joins the unit, He gets the rule I believe. Kharne is both a model and a unit. So he will generate BT points if he helps the unit (with BftBG rule) to kill another unit. However, he will not generate a BT if 1) he challenges and kills a character in a challenge or 2) if Kharne himself is killed, even if he is in a unit with the BftBG rule.

Correct, he helps to kill the unit faster, thus giving his unit a BT point. However, as Kharne himself does not have the rule, he wouldn't generate points for killing a character in a challenge, though the unit would if the character he killed is an Independent Character.

Well then is is all I could really ask from him. If he can help the increase the damage output for the unit, then he is doing exactly what I want him to do...Help the unit get more blood tokens. So that is good enough.

Ive finally found a use to upgrade Champions within CSM and Berzerker squads, Give them an Axe of Khorne, it's 30 points sure, but you're str 5 on the charge and swinging at Initiative with AP2. Quite nasty on a Champion who has 5 attacks on the charge due to 2 base + 1 for 2 CCW + 2 from Rage. This makes them actually SCARY in CC, unlike their shadows from previous Codecies.

Death-Dealing Devastator

I decided to go against the complaints from my bank account and start up a KDK army. I went bloodhost and then gorepack as I wanted to at least challenge people. Here's what I got.
Slaughtercult
Lord - Juggernaut, Axe of ruin, Meltabomb - 185
CSM - Power axe, Meltagun, Icon, 7x ccw, rhino - 224
CSM - PF, Meltagun, rhino - 200
Cultist - 58
Cultist - 58
Possessed - rhino - 185
Gorepack
Biker - 2x melta - 96
Biker - 2x melta - 96
Flesh Hounds x10 - 160
And here is where I am stuck. I want to bring the list up to 1850. The usual limit my local store plays at. Currently I am at 1262. I am not sure what direction to bring the rest of the points. I wanted to get another HQ and that means either a bloodthirster or a charnel cohort or a CAD. Now I'm not against any of those ideas. My concern with a bloodthirster is, there is only 1. How long would he last? Of course I can summon more (My store is ruling that you can change modes the turn you summon, couple guys there that argue it to death, w/e). If I did run a thirster, it would be insensate rage I feel, as I will have a hard time against high av and walkers. But the model is also expensive. I also thought about going helldrake. Especially cause of the new eldar bikes. So I considered bloodstorm. With that formation I would have 10 melta's total running around the table from both raptor squads, plus it would add to the number of fast quick units blitzing across the table. And those warp talons hit like a freight train (still super expensive). Thought about adding terminators through a cad, either deep striking them or with a land raider. Not gonna run brazen onslaught, sorry blood crushers. They again add to the pressure of turn 2 assaults. But it's pricey and kind of goes against the MSU theme. I like the idea of two individual spawn units that Jy2 uses.
Lastly, I considered the charnel cohort. It adds several good and inexpensive units, lots of blood points if they die and it offers an HQ I was looking for. I actually was looking at the bloodthrone, as it's fast and is a force multiplier with it's locus rule. Another quick threat that can be difficult to remove. Otherwise, it would be a herald on a juggernaut to go with his hounds.
Not sure I will go with warmachines. I feel like you need to go all in with those. Two maulerfiends looks good, but they would be the only vehicle worth shooting. I would need to go all in with that idea I think. Maybe soul grinders, but I worry they are not fast enough. Shoot the hounds first, then focus on the slower elements.
So what are other peoples experiences with aforementioned units. I am not against changing things (except the juggerlord, he stays).

first thing to do is max your hounds. then if you can stomach it, take some more hounds.
D-thirster is cool, but yeah if you don't protect it, it'll jsut evaporate.
Helldrakes are great, but tricky to get into the slaughtercult.; A Bloodstorm could be pretty good. Try and combo it with a daemon icon for accurate DS on the talons.
Yeah if you go the maulerfiend route, get 3. Grinders have a rep as being great, DS if you're worried about speed.
I personally don't see the point in the cultists. Not cheap enough to be worth the Bloodtithe points.
