Got into the GG series a few years back and absolutely loved it. You'd see me with a copy of the Sabbat Worlds anthology and I wouldn't put it down until I'd read it cover to cover. Yet the series seems to have died a while back, and Black Library seems to just be rehashing older stories with new covers or in new formats such as E-books.

Is there any word on if the series will be continued? I checked the site today and yes, there appear to be a couple of new short stories but these appear to be prequels or additions to the previous chapters, whereas I'm hoping for continuations on what was a pretty good cliffhanger at the end of the latest one.

Love gaunts ghosts. Those books got me right back into 40k. Really really hope Dan continues the saga and we get some new novels

There are two more novels in the series, you an preorder at least one of them on Amazon. The author developed a form of epilepsy, and also had to make a huge movie last year. He doesn't write too quickly as a result. You're going to buy them whenever they are done anyway.

Wait, what? Dan Abnett has epilepsy? I can't seem to find anything about it online... that's a bummer though, I really enjoy his stuff.

And what movie was he making last year? All I know is he wrote the Ultramarines movie script, but that was like 2010.

Guardians of the Galaxy (comics) has been a project that he's been working on for a while so I wouldn't be surprised if they had him come on and give some input for the movie

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

If by "some input" you mean write it, yes.

Are you implying that Abnett wrote the movie?

IMDB credits James Gunn and Nicole Perlman with the screenplay for the movie. but guardians of the galaxy, the movie was HEAVILY based on Dan Abnett's run of the comic book, so it's a safe bet he was involved with the process. It's ALSO worth noting that he wrote the script for Alien:Isolation (a video game)

the credits specificly say "based on a comic book by Dan Abnett" he didn't actually write the movie script.

Got that out of your system? Now it would be great if you could offer some constructive feedback on the current condition of the continuation to the novel series, as is the purpose of this particular thread. If you are here simply to through around insults to try and damage someones opinion of something you hold a bias towards, there are places in this vast internet to do such. If you are simply angry, might I suggest finding a form of entertainment to reverse your codition for the better instead of trying to drag others down? Prehaps television, or maybe kittens? Why not both?

Speaking of Dan Abnett books I'm dying to see more of, how about anything from Ravenor v. Eisenhorn series? I think there was only the one so far, but it was pretty stellar in my opinion.

Like many BL series I thought the GG books got better as they went along, I would love to get some new material as well.

Im another DA convert, I think he is far and away the best BL author.

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Agreed. Hands down their best author imho. GG & Eisenhorn were what got me back in WH40K and painting after a loooooong hiatus.

Strangely i think they get worse. Certainly less bad than most other BL fluff but i found the older books, while still inconsistent in quality, to be better written and overal more enjoyable.

I had this as well. I found the grit and character that pulled me into gaunt's ghosts is getting a little whitewashed by his last novels. It's almost as though he's lost interest in writing for it.

I got this feeling with Salvation's reach. Super cool story in terms of the battle/action/operation/etc., just felt kinda meh about it in the scheme of the whole series.

I kinda hope/wish he would just end the series soon with the remaining Ghosts and Gaunt being retired and given a nice fresh Tanith-like world. A happy ending, but maybe a chance, if possible, for Ludd or someone similar to raise a brand new regiment of recruits and leave the open chance of a new "Gaunt's Ghosts."

Wtf was up with the "Lasman" in Salvations Reach? The word was never used in the series before that, and suddenly in SR every character knew it!

IG Regiments don't retire. They aren't "given" worlds. If there is a world that was previously-undiscovered by the Imperium, and an IG Regiment then takes that world, *then* they are granted that world. Of course, it is very, very rare for a single Regiment to take a world by itself, and, in the case of competition between Regiments, well, who knows how that shakes out?

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Being given a world was a promise specifically for Gaunt, its not a standard Imperial practice, lol. The Ghosts don't have to win a planet, Gaunt has to win a planet as Theatre Commander, which... is not going to happen as long as he's a lowly Colonel. I reckon he's going to get away with it by Executing one of his cowardly generals and taking over threatre command in his role as a Commissar.

Dude, Guard Regiments have had the right of conquest since Rogue Trader. The obvious modern example is the Pyran Dragoons from the Armageddon III campaign book.

It seems like one of those things that Dan Abnett claims to have not really understood or written faithfully about the setting when he started, and he gave the impression this was a Gaunt-only right. I think it makes some sense that it would have to be granted beforehand, at least in some regions and periods of the Imperium. Still, it is too bad about you telling people all about the "jessorine vannissaries," [sic].

Its funny, because in the Gaunt's Ghosts series, I forget which book, but the one where Dorden and the wounded Volpone get holed up in a farmstead on an agri-world. That agri-world was a right of conquest for some long-forgotten guard regiment.

That farmstead and the altar that ends up getting blown to hell was a memorial for the ancient guard regiment that claimed the world for themselves to settle on.
