Turns are limited to 1 hour per team. I usually don't have time to move them all but that isn't going to stop me from deploying them!

No it isn't all painted but I am working on it. The Phantom is nearing completion which is what I have been working on for a while now...

So why bother putting them on the table if you can't use them? It just makes deployment take a lot longer and makes it a lot harder to move anywhere. Keeping your model count to a reasonable level is one of the basic rules of good behavior in Apocalypse.

1 hour per team is really limiting. Last one I was in I only brought about 12k to, and we had 1 hour to get from movement to being finished with declaring charges. CC was done outside any time limit.
I still had to skip shooting things just to declare charges on t2. I had a drop pod fragioso dread that didn't bother burning away a 20 warrior dark eldar squad.
On their turn, they didn't have time to charge the dread, so I finally ended up flaming them to death on t3.

That's the point. It's supposed to be a limit because Apocalypse without limits is an exercise in masochism. If you can't finish each phase (move/shoot/assault) in ~15 minutes or so then you've brought too many models. An hour for moving and shooting plus an un-timed assault phase (probably another 30 minutes at least) means you're taking three hours per game turn. IOW, if you're lucky you'll finish two turns before you run out of time.
And of course it gets even worse if you didn't bring a melee army. Let's say I bring tank IG, because tanks are awesome. I have a one-hour turn to do stuff, then about two hours where the only thing I do is possibly roll some saves and remove casualties. I could literally tell my opponent to roll my saves and remove casualties for me and go play an entire second game while I wait to be able to do something relevant in the big game. Or, more likely, I'm going to have my first shooting phase, take a long lunch break, come back for my second shooting phase, and then pack up my models and go home.

This way I can still lose models by the handfuls and have other stuff to move. Its like having a bunch of reserves. Besides, it's an apocalypse battle. why would you try and limit your models? Having that many models ensures I am busy through my entire turn. I also move and shoot quickly. There is no real strategy in apocalypse. Put your models down and then remove them by the handful. Also you'd be surprised what having that many models can do for you in holding down objectives. I had a warhound titan start running from my avatar with stormguardians. It's times like those that i remember why I bring all of my stuff. To keep the pressure, to get in my opponents heads, and overall being able to field all (even the worst unit in my codex) of the models I have spent $ on. My 80 guardians and 40 storm guardians don't see much play outside of apocalypse. Same with the scorpions and banshees. But when you give me no point limit I will bring them out just because I have them and it feels good. On top of that the games are balanced by points per side anyways. Yeah im bringing 21,595 points but last year we had about 40k points on each side. the other team brought about as much infintry as I did so I don't feel bad. Some people like apocalypse games (like me). we set aside an entire day for this event. Starts at 11 AM and runs till 10 PM. I could just take 9 Models and equal 7000 points but Apocalypse isnt about battle of the titans. Its an all out war and even the little guys do something (see my avatar and storm guardian example above). Just look at the cover of the apocalypse book. There are Titans in the background and a Baneblade and some knorne guy on the front but there are also Rough Riders, Ultramarines, Guardsmen, Deamonettes, and flyers. Its an all out war. Thats what I like about it and I wouldn't miss it unless I was physically unable to go.

we had a similiar eldar player at our FLGS, we had an 25000 point apocalypse game.
last game against him took like 15 hours.
next game we(team of 12 people) deployed 6 reaver titans 7 warhounds 5 thunderhawks 3 marauder destroyer, 4 vultures 12 vendettas and 6 valkyries and several imperial knights.
the deathcorps player deployed like 12 earthshaker canons and like 30 pieces of artillery
rest were imperial guard tanks
it was short fun for mr "i brought my phantom titan that was the only model remaining on the table turn 2"

Just sharing my experiences dude. No need to go all "your experiences are wrong and you should feel bad" on me.
We generally did weekend games for anything bigger than like 10k per side. Come set up Friday night after work, maybe play a turn, come back Saturday and play all day. I'll admit they take a while, but I love giant apocalypse games. All those units that are broken awesome in normal 40k because they're undercosted by like 100 points? That 100 points of "free quality" is barely even noticeable. Everything is scaled up so much that it's hard to even recognize unit imbalances.
I will say there IS strategy in giant apocalypse though. Even more so than normal 40k. Since so many dice get thrown, the law of averages works it's way into the game more, and moving to advantageous situations becomes more important. Grand strategy in apocalypse is definitely game-winning.
Deep striking, especially, is godly. 6000 points of my reserves- BA with the "no scatter deep strikes this turn" stratagem were able to dominate an entire 6x4 section of our 12x4 area last game against roughly 10k of dark eldar and chaos on that board section. Left the orks and necrons on the other board for late game. (They ended up giving up when it became our entire team vs the orks and necrons on turn 4.)

Because a game of Apocalypse that lasts 4-5 turns, moves along at a decent pace that keeps everyone from getting bored, and leaves everyone thinking "I want to do that again soon" is better than one that lasts 1-2 turns, move so slowly that you can go play an entire "normal" game on the side while waiting to do something in the main game, and leaves everyone thinking "why did I just waste a whole day on this". And part of having the first kind of game is enforcing strict time limits and having everyone limit their model counts.
I could just take 9 Models and equal 7000 points but Apocalypse isnt about battle of the titans.
Then take 1-2 titans and 5000 points of conventional units. Limiting model counts doesn't mean bringing nothing but titans.

If I didn't bring everything I have to a game there would be no point to having as many models as I do. There is nobody around here that has anywhere near the same number of points I do or I would gladly play a 1 on 1 game.

Sure there is. You can bring 5000 points this time, a different 5000 points next time, etc, until every model has been used. And then start the cycle again. It's the same reason why people who don't ever play Apocalypse still have 3000+ points of models for their 1500-2000 point games.
Also, regretting your purchases because you bought too much stuff doesn't change what makes a good Apocalypse game. If you bought too much stuff to have a decent Apocalypse game then you have only yourself to blame. If you try to "fix" the problem by bringing everything anyway then you're still going to make the game less enjoyable for everyone else.

I never said I regret owning that many points. I like setting up my models because when i am done it is the size of an actual army rather than just a little skirmish force. And that bring a different 5000 points doesn't really work when you only have 1 apocalypse game per year.

But is that really worth slowing the game down and making it less enjoyable for everyone else?

Well then I guess you just have too many models. Sometimes there isn't a nice easy solution that gives you everything you want without costing the other players anything. Part of good behavior in Apocalypse is understanding that unrestricted "take everything you own" ruins the game and you have an obligation to limit your own model counts.

Last year there was a person with a 15K blood angels army that had NO SUPERHEAVYS. I don't feel bad at all. Me bringing all my stuff will only make up about 1/8th of the points that we predict to be there this year.

Xerics, if you ever have the spare time to make it 15 hours down here to arkansas, I will totally apoc with you. I love giant games. I never feel like "tourney-size" games are big enough.
I have a fairly impressive collection at around 18k of blood angels+reaver Titan+knights+assassins (I haven't done an inventory in a while.) We have a guy here that I can't even begin to estimate his total though. We could likely team up against him and he'd still have a ton of unplayed models.

I totally would if my wife wouldnt kill me for traveling 15 hours to Arkansas to play warhammer instead of 18 hours to see her parents... Maybe ill get stationed somewhere down there one day. Automatically Appended Next Post: apparently after she read my post she would be ok with it if I took her too... It might be more reasonable to meet halfway. Des Moine Iowa is pretty halfway. And it is a big enough city to most likely have a game store in the area.

I'm still in college so I have plenty of time to waste.

Lol If we do this it will have to be after May 31st especially since I test on the 26th. Wife seems to be OK with it as well seeing as she gets to see a new city. maybe we can try and coordinate something for June?

Finally! An excuse to pick up a couple Deathstrikes. If y'all meet up someone should let me skype them during the game and I can shoot in some ordinance.
