Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Just like last month, this poll will run for 48 hours, with the highest-polling entry being the theme for next month's challenge and the second-highest given another shot in the next Subject Poll.

For May 2015, the subjects you can vote on are:

Some Kind Of Monster: "Aaarrrggghh!"- your entry must be something that a human (or close equivalent) would consider monstrous or terrifying. It could be anything from a towering giant or dragon to a small (but no less lethal) Tyranid Genestealer or Skaven Clanrat, or anything in between!

Slow and Purposeful: "Are we there yet?"- your entry should be a model or models that are considered slow, lumbering or otherwise clumsy. This could be something with a below-average speed on the tabletop, or just a model that looks like it couldn't get anywhere in a hurry.

Three Colour Maximum: "You Shall Count to Three, and Three is the Number You Shall Count To!"- You may use no more than three colours on your entry. You are allowed variations on these colours, but only 3 colours must be visible on the miniatures. For example, painting in black and white with a single spot colour, or representing a coloured light source shining on the minis.

Icon: "This is who we are, this is why we're here!" - your entry should embody its faction and history, it should look like the background would describe, it should represent its fellows in every way. Other than that, anything goes!

For those who missed the first thread last month, this challenge is open to anyone of any level of skill or experience, and in terms of what can enter, I'll be as lenient as possible, so the chances are so long as your entry is at least tangentially related to the theme it should fit in! The results each month will be decided by community poll, and a league has been set up to track your points over time. For the full rules, see the current Challenge thread.

So, ladies and gents, what do we want to see and paint in June?

As a once metallica fan, gotta go with option 1.

Plus, y'know, there are a boatload of monsters in my bones 2 stuff.

Yeah, I'm in for Monster as well, either D&D's Ashardalon or Reaper's Ebonwrath, or maybe the Space Hulk Broodlord.

Both of those would qualify as monstrous, no problem!

Option #1 looks pretty cool.
It will also give me a good excuse to finish up a project I've been working on

I'm in, at the moment it looks like I need to make something monstrous...

I also talked MysticAngel.9 into entering, this will be good.

I wanted slow and purposeful. So I could use my Max Payne miniature. He isn't lumbering and clumsy but he does jump around in slow motion.

Could I just make a quick comment for all those who's votes may not ultimately be the majority -
If, for example, monstrous wins, but people wanted slow and purposeful, you can just make your slow and purposeful mini attack something monstrous in a mini diorama. Or paint a monster in three colours etc etc

Para pointed it out to me previously, think of the theme creatively and you can pretty much do all four themes (maybe) in one entry.

Some kind of monster, could death riders work? In the fluff at least normal guard regiments are extremely unnerved by the death korp because of the masks and the sacrifice cult they follow. Then add on top of it genetically modified horses with giant gas masks.

I voted Monstrous. I have several things for my Daemonkin army that would qualify (Daemon Prince, DV Helbrute, plenty of Bloodletters, Bloodthirster, etc.). 3 color would not work for me since it would be hard to paint something in only 3 colors and have it fit in with the rest of my army, but any of the other 3 I could do.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

"something humans would consider monstrous or terrifying" would an Inquisitor or an assassin count?

Assassin, certainly! Inquisitor, it would probably depend on how messed up/Blanchified he is. Not that I'd disallow it, just bear in mind that people will be voting based on relevance to the theme as well as everything else.

Frankly, either would do for either category, so you're fine either way!

Looks like Monsters are taking a solid lead, with SnP rather fittingly plodding along behind!

As much as I love the idea of 3 color maximum, I had to vote for some kind of monster.

I have so many 'nids to paint...

Still have 4 Ork boyz and 4 Cyboars to paint from the last challenges.
