Howdy Dakka!
After disappearing for a time due to work and school, I have returned once more to do battle with my Orks... this time at the Bugeater
GT, located in Omaha NE!
The Bugeater
GT is a 64 man tournament held every year in Omaha NE to support the school debate team lead by teacher Tim Royers. I've attended this tournament three times before, and I have actually won 1st place for two of them, and came in top 4 in the other. I will, once again, be taking my Green Tide in an effort to try and take home the gold and prove that they can compete in the current meta - although I'm sure that the new Eldar and Knights will prove to be quite the challenge!
The Bugeater comprises 6 games, 4 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, before crowning the undefeated person as the champion. The missions are a tad odd, with a primary objective of some kind (such as
KP or objectives or table quarters) that is worth 9 points, a secondary objective which is a small, modified maelstrom chart worth 6 points, and 3 tertiary objectives worth one point each: Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker, and First Blood. I will also be playing in the team tournament on Friday, but I've decided to save my energy for the battle reports for the singles event.
As a side note, I WILL be completing my Adepticon Battle Reports for my green tide before I do the Bugeater ones, but I wanted to get my list and poll out now.
However, this may be the last time I take my Green Tide to a big time
GT. I want to mix it up and try something else after this. However, does this mean I am done with orks? HELL NAW! I'll likely just end up playing a different flavor of my favorite green skinned army, and with the summer lull in tournaments before the fall, that gives me plenty of time to get my new army ready. I actually have a couple brand new list ideas that are quite mean, but you'll have to wait to see those later.....
With that said, here's the list I will likely be taking to the Bugeater:

THOUGHTS ON LIST:
Okay, confession time: I actually don't like this list.
Wait, what? Why am I taking it then? Good question.
Well, Bugeater allows unlimited detachments (though each is unique), but allows
no forgeworld whatsoever. This is actually a really, really big deal for my Orks, because without Forgeworld, I lose access to fast killy units. For example, although I can still take Tankbustas (one of my favorite ork options), their only option is a Trukk (which dies to a stiff breeze) or a battlewagon (which is WAY too many points for a transport). I much prefer a middle ground, like Gun Wagons, which are MUCH cheaper and better at their job of carrying Tankbustas. Without that, Tankbustas just aren't a really valid option to me.
Furthermore, I also lose access to scoring Bikes through Zhadsnark. This also takes away another fast option, which means that I need to reach into other codexes to look for shooty, speedy support.
I also lose access to the actually GOOD Lords of War (like a Kustom Battle Fortress) which, again, is another shot in the foot to my army.
I would much prefer a pure Ork list using forgeworld, but without access to those crucial support units, I'm left with looking to other armies for support - which leaves me with my nids.
The list is a tad odd - beyond the flyrants and the green tide, it actually doesn't have a lot of killing power - but the killing power in those three units is QUITE large. So, the list isn't my favorite list ever, but I'm making do with what I can considering the rules of the tournament.
With that said, there are some SERIOUS strengths to my list as it stands:
My list is BRUTAL when it comes to killpoints. You will have a tough time beating me in that mission, which gives me a considerable advantage.
My list has incredible resiliency. A void shield + a green tide + two flyrants is a tough cookie to crack.
My list has some good synergy. The flyrants are fast as hell, are great shooters of small units, and can pop quite a number of vehicles. The tide on the other hand is much slower, but also covers a HUGE portion of the field, and serves as a direct threat to most armies that they HAVE to deal with. As such, if you shoot my tide, it leaves my flyrants with free reign to go around shooting things. Shoot my flyrants, and you let my tide get that much closer to you.
My list has an answer to nearly every threat. It has anti psyker, it has anti elites, it has anti drop pod, it has anti infantry, it has anti-flyer - and so on.
As for the weaknesses, some of which I already mentioned.
My list puts a lot of eggs into 3 baskets. Take down my tide, take down my tyrants, and you've got me pretty bad.
My list has CtA allies. One eye open could prove to be an issue, along with deployment.
My list doesn't have a lot of objective secured. I have a tougher time dealing with objectives with armies that have a lot of expendable objective secured units.
With that said, we shall see how it goes. As I said, while this isn't my favorite list by any stretch of the imagination, do not underestimate it - it can cause a lot of pain to basically any army, and it has an answer for almost any threat - or at least, that's the hope!
So, how do you think I will fare? Am I shooting myself in the foot with this list, or do you think the pure onslaught of Green (bugs + orks) can take my opponents on!?!?
