I swear this is the first miniature she has ever painted. So proud. Please be nice but totally invite positive critique.

Another reason to regret being single!
Seriously though congratulations to your wife on doing a great job. Did she find it fun?

Yes actually. I am getting into this because she is talented and finds it fun. She has a whole squad plus part of another and a little work done on a rhino. Thank you for feedback

It looks amazing! Golden Demon quality! The money behind it is a bribe, right?
It does look quite nice, very crisp, very clean, and great attention to detail. Pictures would be improved if they were upright, hah.

The money was to show size to someone who didn't know the scale lol. The error posting upright is mine alone as is picture quality.

Yes, very good. Now you must assign her tasks you don't particularly like to do.

That's really neat, your wife is very patient. The finish is very smooth as well, she's done a great job.
Tips I'd offer - when painting metallic you can get a stronger colour by laying down another colour under it first. Metallic paints are very thin in pigment, so you 'boost' them by putting a colour like brown beneath gold, grey-blue beneath silver, etc.
A little wash (sparingly) on areas like the laurels and stills would help define them without detracting from the rets of the mini, and it's pretty fast to do for squad painting.

This is terrific! Buttery Commissar's suggestions are excellent, especially about washing the wreath and skulls, but really it's just a matter of small things now. For example, the edge highlighting is too diffuse: she needs to flatten her brush when she does it, to catch only the edges. I'd also like to see more shadows and highlighting, to help break up the large blocks of color. If she's not ready to paint thin layers yet, using shades and washes is easy, and makes a big difference.
All this said, your wife's techniques are certainly above the first efforts of 99% of us; it's just about how to paint even better.

Congratulations to her! Make sure to post up her future pics too Since she looks to have excellent brush control, she'll be able to dramatically increase the contrast of the model just by carefully applying washes into the crevices (rather than drowning the whole miniature in a wash). This allows her to keep the nice, crisp, clean armor plates that she has now, but accentuate the shadows. All in all, very cool. Did she assemble that from a multipart kit, too? It doesn't look snapfit, with the Mk4 legs and the Mk7 helmet, nor the relative gun/head pose. If she did assemble it, nice clean job -- with the mold lines too! She could get a little more mileage out of the pose if she turned the space marine's head to the left (following the gun barrel's direction). Most space marine poses are designed with the left shoulder being the one facing the enemy, and most gun poses are designed to be left-facing. The exception is the pose where the gun is in a "guard" pose (across the chest, but pointing upwards), where it looks best looking straight or turned slightly right. Useless pocket trivia that will never make it to Jeapoardy: the old Mk5 shoulder pad, the one with studs, was designed as"extra armor" because that is the side the space marine is supposed to be facing the bad guys from I guess there are no left-handed space marines!

Actually an update to this developing situation. She fell in love with Chaos WF so once she gets some done I will post in appropriate board ya'll. AND she did all assembly from a typical sprue kit. Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey painter here! I didn't know exactly what I was doing. Just went off on a whim. I did have to glue all the little bits together so placement of heads and gun might be off and even now I don't really know how to shade. I'm just now learning how to use the washes and i need better brushes for highlights. But I appreciate your positive and constructive feedback. Thanks guys I look forward to posting my progress and seeing what you all think.

@LovelyWifeOfTheCorn - the best way to get the most posing mileage on a GW kit is to attach the arms to the upper body, then attach that part to the legs. That way you can point the gun the way you want. Glue the head on last, because the direction it points makes a big difference.
Lastly, remember you are often painting a squad, so make sure everyone is 'in sync' and look good together when they are facing one way
Good luck and nice to meet you!!

You guys should totally have an account each, and then have a competition to see who gets better votes on their gallery images.
...Just don't blame me when it ends up in couple-therapy.

Trust me it won't be a competition she is to amazing. Whole package deal will show the rest of her first squad. She did it all sans direction or knowledge of warhammer in general. She is reading her first codex now. (Fantasy Chaos)

At Mrs. Corn.
good job.
As for brush control. It comes, through repetition.
As for painting advice, you can do a LOT worse than the advice from Talys.
When you both feel up for a good read, have a go at Leper's thread at the official Infinity forums "Better living through Meta-Chemistry". A great write up 're. paints, additives and model prep. One thing worth mentioning is that the prep bit of the article is 're. Metal minis.
Other than that.
Read up on the issues you struggle with and practice.
There's a LOT of great painters here. And I've found nothing but friendly helpful people here 're the hobby aspects.
The forum search can be your best friend sometimes since almost anything conceived has already been asked and answered.
Anyhoo Mrs. Corn.
Welcome to,the hobby.
