On the webstore, seems like GW have started shipping some of there existing range with round bases (Skaven and wood elf trees)... Going to be a pain if anyone wants to use these with 8th... Will have buy third party bases or buy own... sigh...

Or you could buy the existing kits at any number of hobby shops that didn't send them back to GW?

Or you could buy square/rectangular bases from GW--they're still for sale, y'know.

I think the real problem is when they get the inevitable price hike when they are re-released with a different base.

Dryads went down in price per model.

I bought some Bloodletters to go with the AoS Khorne guys. Never bought much 40k stuff before but man those round bases are tiny compared to the ones in the AoS box. Anyone know what size bases the Skaven are on now?

I got the impression that today's pre-order and re-releases were a mixed bag. Going from memory here, but:

Skaven Censer bearers (round bases) - now £20 for two. Definitely a price increase.
Plague monks (round bases) - £20.50 for 20. No price increase?
Treeman - £37.50. No price increase?

I double checked it was 20 Plague Monks, not 10...!

Most likely the same small base that came with the Bloodletters. That's your standard 40k small infantry round base for human-sized and smaller models (marines being exception, although they are being systematically moved over to bigger bases). Skaven are smaller than humans, so I'm fairly sure it's the 25mm round base.

As I understand it the skaven are getting 32mm bases in the reboxing (though I think 25mm would make more sense). Anyways, as others have stated, the reboxings for the most part have kept prices as-is (or a bit lower for Dryads). The censer bearers went from stupidly overpriced to more stupidly overpriced and are finecast anyway; I find it difficult to count them since I doubt they were selling much at all either way (and are easily converted with the censer arms from the monk kit).

Figured it had to be coming, if they're dropping WHFB for AoS, they are going to make converting those models a priority. What's interesting is if they make it if in the future they include both a square and round base. Probably being to optimisitc with that, but it would be good if they did do it.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The obvious business logic is for GW to support the new rules rather than the old ones. In fluff terms, the WHFB armies would all have died out over the 2,000 years between the destruction of the Old World and the creation of MortalRealms.com.

If you are lucky the old kits will be re-issued with round bases and a price reduction, otherwise you can expect to see a lot of completely new kits for Sigmarinized versions of Dwarves, Elves, Chaos and so on.

Obviously that isn't all bad. If you are the kind of person who likes to throw away their armies every few years to replace them with newer models, there are many years of happy HHHobbying ahead.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Huh great isn't it, I post this exact topic a week ago and get zero traffic, oh well not complaining; round bases work for me! Means I don't have to go out NAD buy extra bases if I want to convert something for use in 40k

Cut of the sides of the base, glue in on a round base and mask the gaps with basing material. Already seen in the Wight King picture from the AoS starter box. Not really a problem.

This is going to make it annoying to play KoW with them.

I'm sure GW are going to lose sleep over that one.
But hey, you never know. Mantic might do a kickstarter (sorry, 'Mantic Preorder') for scenic square bases that happen to fit 'any other models you may have'.

Do people hate Mantic or something? For all the "well I'll just play KoW" you see around this place they always imply that they'll use GW models rather than supporting Mantic with their own.

When mantic make models worth the price they're charging for them, I buy them. When GW make models worth the price, I buy them, too.

Simples!

I really doubt that GW is planning on doing that to all of the models that they sell with sculpted bases.

I do feel a little bad using their rules and not their models, but that's how it goes.

Mantic doesn't have much of a Dark Elf line currently unfortunately. It's what I'm focused on. I also really like GW's Dark Elves.

The others in my group have large GW armies already, so any expansions they do will most likely be GW models also.

Once my Dark Elves are done, I plan on finishing my Chaos Dwarfs off with Mantic's Halfbreeds, Warmachines, and Golems. I dislike Mantic's Abyssal Dwarves (I have plenty of FW's infernal guard though), but I like their monsters.

Mantic's Forces of Nature army has potential to be my first new army in ages.

I gave AoS a shot, I was optimistic. I want GW to succeed. My group played a bunch of games the first week. The next week we played a bunch of KoW. We just simply preferred KoW. I still like GW's fantasy models. Having their fantasy kits come with round bases would be annoying, that's all I'm saying. I'm sure others are in my boat.

I was more worried that GW was going to be phasing out the "old" kits. Now it looks like they will just be repackaging them. I still plan on buying some Cold One Knights (some of my favorite models) and maybe some Hydras. I bet both will stick around for awhile with round bases.

I may even buy some Aelfs whenever they come out. GW makes great plastic models.

They won't. The reason for moving to round is to reduce the production costs of two different base types and having to endure the exceeding slow turn over of square.

Actually they have either stayed the same price or shock horror went down in price. Dryads went up in price but gw put more models in the box so kinda worth it

Not sure why they're bothering. Aren't all these armies pretty much dead in the new fluff? And bases don't even matter in AoS, so its not important whether you have round or square.

Well, whatever. You can always buy whatever bases you want, they don't cost much.
