Great stuff! The purple tinge on the blades is very nice, it breaks them up a bit.

I'm really interested to see what you do for Nerd's comp!

I like to try new things when painting metallics these days. I started this with my Askari warriors for Eden.

This model is fantastic. I'm really eagger to start it's painting though I have really no idea at all concerning the paint scheme...


I had to wait a few days so the weather would allow me to spray Alicia, then I painted a - 3rd edition, I know some of you will hate them ^^ - Cabalite warriors squad.
I used mainly speed painting techniques, this squad was made really quickly. And compared to the time I spent on them, I'm pretty satisfied with the result I got.

I almost managed to block out memories of those models. You must now paint up lots of current DE models as punishment!

Lol. Nice whale Hey minus gorgeous work as usual. Ive two questions for you:
1.) for the purple blades, are you painting up straight metallics then adding layers of purple glaze after the metallic is highlighted and shaded? Or is it a different approach?
2.) How are you photoing your minis? Ive been trying to figure out how to take group shots like that where all the minis are crystal clear in a row like that and my iphone wont do it. Im sure you use a nice camera?

1) I paint the blades with a boltgun metal basecoat first. Then I add layers of various washes. For the talos blades I used Asurmen blue and leviathan purple. For the grotesques, Asurmen blue then Druchii violet. The trick is to apply several layers and to "push" the pigments in the good areas. The washes are at the same time the shade and the glaze. ^_^
Last step is to highlight the edges with silver (mithril silver for example), and to paint the streaks on the cutting edges.

2) No secret here : I use a Reflex camera and a tripod.

I remember hating those models soo much and then about a year ago Mechanicum Jon painted one and I fell in love with them. I'm so glad you painted some up yourself becuase they benefit so much from modern painting techniques and masters like you guys. They look awesome in my book, I'd actually quite like to see you revisit them at some point and give each a little special TLC. Now I really must remember to grab some next time I'm on ebay.

Gorgeous work minus. As usual. The blue steel armor is REALLY striking. The base, im not quite sold on. Comes across a little distracting for me, perhaps that its so close in tone to the rest of the mini, but the actual figure is beautiful. Strong contestant for nerds comp!! Good luck

I sometimes have comments on my bases. The fact is that I paint my minis for gaming so my bases are painted to match with my table, whatever the colors of the model itself are. ^_^
But you're right that it is possible to find a color that would fit better with Alicia's color scheme. Definitely true.

I came back to my dark eldars, now painting my 3 first raiders. This is a WIP picture :

Pretty, pretty... love the irregular blue stripes on the red.

Why must you paint such awful models so well?! Any plans on current DE?

If only there was a large vat of guiness i could jump into. Id imagine its creamy froth is good for the skin too
