Veteran Knight Baron in a Crusader

So many people go with a Power-Fist/Lightning Claw Lord on Bike. While this is very powerful, I think it's a bit expensive for one character.
Can anyone suggest a slightly cheaper option that is still effective? Although it won't be as good on it's own, I can use the points elsewhere.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)
2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

PF LC helps you deal with any target. You could just stick with a Power axe or just a fist I suppose.... having ap2 is more valuble than ap3 in most challenges that you're inevitably stuck in.
But if you're going for a cheap character on a bike, take a Sorcerer instead.

depends on what you need. If you're not making a beatstick, why not go with a sorc. If you want a cheaper lord to just unlock cult troops, you could always run him without invul and/or just with a lightning claw or a power axe. However, CSM have decent HQ options for reasonable pt investment.

40 points sounds like a lot for that combo, but considering that the Lord starts at only 65 points, it's not really too unreasonable. Only when you start adding all of the Crimson Slaughter goodies does it really get expensive. But, that's the price you pay for a bike, T6, a 2+/4++, IWND, and a S9 fist with 6 attacks on the charge.

Expensive bikes lords are worth it. Give him the tools he needs to annihilate his enemies.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Exactly. CSM Juggerlords and Nurgle Crimson Slaughter Lords are amazing overall.

I suppose not that bad considering how expensive they can get, but I tend to go with cheaper HQ, personally.

cheapy useful HQ is a Sorc in TDA
another cheapy is a Chaos Lord in TDA
once you start putting guys on a bike, you really want a SoC for the 4++. Then you need the bike's cost and weapons. It's not looking like a cheap HQ anymore and you still lack a 2+ save and only have 3 wounds. You want to put him in a large-ish unit too.
Dont get me wrong. I run bikerlords all the time. They arent particularly expensive nor are they super cheap.
