Subject: When using wounds to balance, how do you balance a model without wounds?

Just a quick issue that came up really.
We all balance armies using wounds, but I then came across lord kroak.
His wounds is simply a * instead.
Does anyone have any suggestions please for making this work.
Thanks.

Yes, I would suggest not using wounds for balance, because using wounds doesn't accomplish balance. There are numbers of comp systems out there that actually try to make the game balanced, I would suggest trying a few of those out instead of using wounds.
The best one I've encountered so far is the PPC that is being developed on this very forum. If you want your games to be balanced, I'd suggest taking a look at that.

Hi, wounds alone might not be enough to get a balanced engagement.
Why not try the Scroll of Might: weighed values for all WFB and all new AoS unit: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/662092.page;jsessionid=42F17E5FAB2072058EF3E9B2B387FF21#8110839 .
The pdf is ready-to-use and won't get any tweaks anymore: it works.
Cheers.

Thanks alot guys.
This helps tons.
Wounds has worked thus far, but have prevented me taking alot of models.
It's even prevented me using my skaven as 75-100 wounds really goes nowhere.

I would recommend Project Points Cost (see my sig); it's two pages of comp and points costs for every model in every army (which work pretty well even without the comp). Its well-balanced and has involved community input from the beginning to continually make it better.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.
I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games. |

I just read the rules for him, I would count his Bravery as his wounds. If you look at how he takes damage, you subtract the wounds from his bravery and then roll. If he flees he is considered "slain". I feel that would be a fair cost for him because he is a rather powerful character from what i see in his war scroll(going off the "wounds" for balance). That is my two cents anyway.

Hey if you dont want to use the systems to balance just wounds like you were doing since no one really answered your question, you are best off counting him as 10 wounds.
Hes an extremely powerful unit and its almost guaranteed if you are just using wounds to balance the armies, you will have the upper hand with him on your side .
