I read in the Ben Counter Grey Knights Omnibus that one of the justicars was speaking to a Chaplain and it gave me pause.

Not sure if they do have such a position or not as they aren't really a traditional chapter so to speak.

Would they even need a spiritual mentor given all the awesome anti chaos training they were given?

Thoughts people?

How exactly does this have anything to do with the topic?

I don't really see chaplains being necessary in GK. They are rigorously screened and indoctrinated during their training which makes it already almost unnecessary. Add to that the fact that they witness the horrors of the warp on a regular basis. You don't need anyone to strengthen your faith in the big E if you see evidence supporting the claims you've heard during training all the time.

The burning pits of Hades, also known as Sweden in summer

Given that there has only been one mention of them, and they are not listed in the Grey Knight chapter rolls in their codex, their existence is highly dubious.

I guess he is joking that the only good unit in the GK codex is the dreadknight so why would it matter to have a chaplain if it can't join your dreadknights.

Most, if not all, Grey Knights probably have the same temperament and personality a chaplain would have, anyways.

Chaplains are there to lead their brothers in their rituals, as well as caring for the more religious/spiritual aspects of Marine psychology. As the Grey Knights are less a proper chapter and more a chapter-sized Librarium, then they probably have different rituals that need to be followed, more properly led by one of the more experienced Pskers in the chapter.
