Ancient Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought
I... actually don't know. Help?
|
I saw the 'confessions of a tfg' thread, so I thought, why not have a thread for those who have played against a TFG? My regular playmate is a bit of a TFG/WAAC. Although he's agreed not to anymore, he used to bring a combo of Deathwing Knights, a Land Raider, an Imperial Knight, 2 Dreads and Laspred. This was before I even ahd any sort of anti armour (literally one lascannon in my entire army), so he wrecked me 6 games ina row. Ouch.

I think with the was prices are now you kinda have to decide what kind of player your going to be. Either the I like to build a fun army to play with has a lot of fluff and what not or the type that wants to get the strong competitive units or build the competitive army, both options are fine. Tho if you been in hobby long enough you probubly have a million models to pic from lol
As for your OP, I played a guy once back in the day that took 3 monoliths (I can't spell to save my life) and just max worriors and I have a all close combat nid army, safe to say I lost every game

No, Dman is saying it's okay to be TFG because obviously those are the only two routes, either a fluffy weak army or a competitive TFG army.

That isn't true at all! I have been starting up Eldar and I don't have a single Scatbike or Wraith Knight. I do have a unit of Wraithguard and a unit of Fire Dragons, but there's a difference between being tfg and purposefully nerfing yourself into the ground.
My Space Wolves won't be using the Deathstar. I do have some Thunder Wolf Cavalry, but I haven't converted any of them into Iron Priests or anything like that.
My Marines use a lot of Tactical Squads, and the only grav is on a bike unit despite me using 2 Devastator squads.
So yeah, I can still have armies that are good enough to stand up to a lot of lists without taking all the crazy top tier junk.

That's the 40k community for you in a nutshell. You either play the way I want you to play or you're a walking example of everything that's wrong with humanity.
For example, "You can't be a good person and play Eldar." If you had this kind of attitude playing almost literally any other game, and you were serious, people would think you were fething insane. In 40k however this is perfectly natural, and sometimes encouraged.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

So your one of them, maybe you didn't know but it is everyone else not you who decide of your a TFG. As was being pointed out, bring what you want WE decide if you are a TFG, what you think of your list does not matter, in fact the more you defend yourself the more TFG you are. That is the way it is them or us, nothing in between. Yeah, 40k and my way of playing is better then your.

To be honest, I codex hop away from the current flavour of the month armies.
I rather not play the new craze.
Problem being, a certain person who shall not be named complains about every army I run, then tries to have the group force house rules to tone the stuff down.
His lists are simply netlists minus the ability or know how to use them. (Seems to think having a solid list gaurentees a win)
So if I beat him my army at the time becomes OP.
Including my much loved old metal nids.
How a mix of a walking tyrant, 3 screamerkillers, 3 zoanthropes and the rest of pure warriors is OP I don't know.
Thus, I'm now tempted to be a TFG and run sister flamer spam as he is back with green tide.

I'm just joking around. I don't think I've ever encountered someone I'd call a TFG when playing 40k. I kind of don't like these kind of threads where people make accusations of others. They only tell one side of the story.

As I noted in the other thread, everyone has been a TFG at some point at least once. My first experience with a TFG that was *always* a TFG was in 4th edition. This guy was running BA's, everything painted (well, drowned is really the correct phrase) in Testors bright red with a couple helmets with some sloppy (as in, one slathered brush stroke) unit differentiations. Everything looked like something off a bad 4chan post. But, oh well, we move on. We finally get to the games, and literally every time his army list changed mid-game, or he'd be using rules from other SM books, and constantly "misremembering" the "better" versions of rules from the old 3E book and whatnot. The guy didn't come in often, but like clockwork this would happen every time anyone played him. He also would just make crazy ridiculous statements like how he had literally a million points worth of Blood Angels or had won a GT (where we had attendance posted online and his name wasn't on there anywhere) and other such things. People just cringed when they would see him and try not to make eye contact.
Apparently then there was some sort of relationship drama (either his wife was sleeping with someone else or he was sleeping with someone's wife) and whatnot, and he soon got deployed back east and never heard from him again.

Well I might as well try to get this thread back OT As you all know I have a certain friend. He is a really great guy and always fun to be around. He is amazing on Halo and we have had great marathons on live. He also just happens to be that certain SM player I mentioned a while back. He does not like me bringing tanks. In his opinion the Guard is about the the men and women who fight on the front lines thats what the guard are about not the fething tanks
and in his opinion bringing more than 4 tanks to a game is spamming them (this stands for both Marines and the Guard) and I my Leman Russ are " OP". That I bring 5 of them plus a Thunderer and a Deimos is the height of tank spam. That I have a Shadowsword.... Yeah. Now this would not be too bad under most conditions and I would happily reduce the number I bring to the field if it where not for a few little niggly things. Like the number of psykers he brings. Severin Loth plus 4 ML 2 Librarians in a Conclave. In a game where he tried to limit me too three tanks. Or the Assassins. Or the Vindicator Linebreaker. Okay, this does not sound too bad right? Try this: A few weeks back we agreed to have a friendly and fluffy 40K game (that bolding will become relevant in a minute). The scenario was based around an underground city which was being contested by our two forces. To represent the lack of light everything had the Shrouded special rule (not too bad - I use camo gear a lot) and because of the narrow streets nothing larger than a walker could get down - so no tanks or transports. 'Not bad' I thought. 'It sounds a fun game and a nice, relaxed, fluffy game will be a breath of fresh air'. So I agreed. The day before he asked if he could borrow two Dreadnoughts. 'Sure, why not' I was really looking forward to a step back from the competitive meta in the local scene. So we turn up. I have an all Infantry force with two CCS and 9 Veteran Sections along with a Rapier Destroyer and three Armoured Sentinels and a Vindicaire. He has two Devestator squads, minimal size only, a 10 man sniper scout squad, a 3 Ironclad group and two tactical squads. Not too bad so far right? He brings out 10 Lightning Claw termies with Tyberos, a Vindicaire and an Eversor. Okay, maybe this is ramping up a little, but still it could be worse. Then he brings it out. Primarch Konrad Curze. My jaw dropped so hard im surprised it didnt dent the table. Thats right people, to a friendly and fluffy game this guy brought a Primarch, which brings me to my next reason as to why I will not limit my tanks when against him: He loves to bring Primarchs. We used to have an agreement about not bringing LOW. Then, one day, we had a game. I blew a Razorback and out popped Primarch Vulcan. That was the game before the "fun and fluffy" one I am playing him next week. I will be taking all seven tanks. And I will be taking my Shadowsword.

I know, I didnt question it at the time but Vulcan plus three honour guard in a Razorback? Well the Primarch shouldnt be able too fit. AnywayI countered with the famous quote "That which I cannot crush with words I will crush with the tanks of the Imperial Guard" from Lord Solar Machirus.
