Subject: Winner of September's Painting Challenge: Announced on Page 2
A huge thank you to everyone who took part, whether they managed to reach the end or not. September has been a very eventful month for all involved, and I hope you enjoyed your painting time.
You may vote for as many or as few entrants as you wish!
The theme this month was "Never tell me the odds!"
Please consider picking entries based on how well you think they matched the theme, as well as your favourite paintjobs!

Guardsman Jonah shouted. He was aiming his flamer at an approaching Tyranid, a fierce creature, that had killed all of his squadmates. The ground around him was on fire. "We have to warn the HQ, we should run for it!"
Captain Hogar shook his head. A beheaded Tyranid laid at his feet, his chainsword covered in blood. Human blood. He had been forced to kill several of his friends after they had been wounded by the monsters.
"We won't make it if be both run... You go. I'll distract them."
Jonah's jaw dropped. "What? No, you can't do that!"
"Yes, I can. You run. Run as fast as you can. Get to the HQ. Warn them. And Jonah..."
Jonah turned around and faced his captain, just in time to see him running against the edge of a cliff, preparing to jump.
"NEVER TELL ME THE OOOOOODDS!"
Jonah heard the fizz of a plasma pistol being fired and a chainsword whirring. He knew that although his captain was going down, he was going down in style.

SirDonlad: "The Furthest Group of Thallax"

The Thallax smashed up from where they had been buried in the earth to block off the traitors' retreat and caught the Land Raider in the converging arcs of thier strange weapons, soot-black corposant dancing across it's hull untill it's tracks disintegrated and cannon sponsons detonated. The machine-creatures left it for dead, flame spewing from it's crew-ports.
Victory was ours, but triumph lasted only a moment as The Furthest Group Of Thallax was blown to pieces -- the shell blast exploding among them before we heard the report of the cannon that fired it. Another Fellblade was smashing through the city towards us.....

Subject: VOTE for the Winner of September's Painting Challenge: All manner of odd...
I'll echo the thanks and congratulations to everyone who took part, and furthermore for Buttery Commissar, without whom there would have been no Challenge in September!
Now, votes... lots of good stuff to choose from this time.
Most improved: Matthew! Brilliant to see you experimenting with new techniques like the OSL and building the diorama itself, the latter of which is waay beyond anything I could do! Keep it up!
Best painted: Winterhound! I'd love some close-ups of those minis if you get the chance, they look great! The terrain too is awesome!
Most fitting to the theme: GirrafeX! Brilliant work, excellent composition, and the potential practical use of the diorama all add up to make this one of my favourites!
And a couple of extras: BC, as mentioned in the last thread that mini-painting-a-mini is brilliant, from concept to execution!
SirDonald: Awesome weathering, and I love it when people base their minis on fluff like that! Super stuff!
Keezus: Great array of minis, excellent painting, and that first shot on the terrain is awesome!
Honourable mentions: Everyone else! Can't think of a single entry this month that I don't like!

Well done to everyone that finished (and to those that didn't was still good you started)
echoing Paras comments, a big thank you to BC for running the competition this month and yeah at Winterhound some close-ups of the guys would be great their weapons and bases look very interesting.
GiraffeX, keezus, Kustomer D, Matthew, SirDonlad, VorpalBunny74, WinterHound congratz to you all on getting a finished diorama/background its really added to your entry.
So many great mini's!!!
I ended up voting double what i should because of the overall quality of all entries - it was really hard to not vote for everyone..
I almost did exactly that!
Special kudos goes to 'buttery commissar' for, not only a brilliant concept and painting skills far in excess of my own, but also for running this challenge. I have enjoyed taking part immensely! Nice one dude!!

Matthew - thanks, buddy. Your diorama is very evocative and certainly what this particular challenge was ideally all about.
That kind of goes for any of you who made the effort for full dioramas/multiple models. Keezus, Winter Hound and GiraffeX the other particular standouts for me in this department.
Buttery Commissar - magnificent concept and cracking execution.
LordRahl - Gambit is an inspired choice for this challenge and the conversion is novel.
Inspector #264 wrote: Cast my votes, and yet again I found it difficult to not vote for everyone.
Having seen the work behind the submissions and following the thread and bugging people for WIPs, I admit I did actually vote for everyone but myself.
I'm possibly overly soft but I couldn't fault anyone this month. Usually I stick with half a dozen.
Honestly it's hard to pick a fave, but I think it's between Matthew's grand scale dio, LordRahl's Gambit, and aldo's tiny lady. I'm verging on falling asleep so I won't try and give concise feedback this evening.
...I'm really happy that people liked my strange idea. And embarrassed. I don't take compliments well. I just hope that it isn't too much of a "gimmick" piece because I really tried to get the painting done well. The commissars and cat were the long job (for me). I'll admit the furniture let me down a bit because I just... I dunno, what can you do with a filing cabinet? It doesn't get interesting battle damage like a tank. I'll probably go back and neaten up the dio part at some point.
Well done everyone on great entries this month. Votes cast, and they went to:
Buttery Comissar - the interpretation of the theme was creative and relevant. I often feel the painting of minis is a challenge and success is often against all odds. Detail is brilliant. You have got to stop being so critical of yourself. That is a perfect entry.
LordRahl - Loved the conversion. A lot of thought and effort went in to that.
Matthew - Please look back at your earlier entries and see how incredibly you are growing as a hobbyist. I can't say that I am developing at the same rate. This entry is superb and you should be so very proud of yourself no matter how many votes you get. Bravo!
Midget Gems - From the outset, this excited me. They did take down the sith against all odds after all. Your GS work is brilliant.
Paradigm - Consistently great entries. Love the quality of work and that when you paint a CD grey it looks way better than when I do!
To all other entrants. Great jobs. Keep up the great work

A good month, even if I did not participate. My five votes for this month went to: Buttery Commissar: Such win, and such a clever interpetation on the theme! GiraffeX: Captured the theme pretty well, and a pretty nice paint job on everything to boot! keezus: Those minis are painted superbly, and the dio as a whole is awesome! I'm not sure what game it is even, but its still great! (Warmachine or Malifaux, I think?) Matthew: What a cool diorama, with so much going on around the whole thing. Those flame effects are what really pop to me. Awesome work! Paradigm: Captured the theme nicely (the odds were pretty long on Isildur cutting Sauron's ring finger off!), and a great paint job too! Everyone did pretty good, its a shame some of the usual suspects (i.e. Januine, TP^DC) didn't finish, but the reasons are understandable. We all have lives after all. Looking forward to next month! Special props to Buttery Commissar for putting on this show while Paradigm was busy, and still managing to do an awesome mini!

Thanks again for the compliments as I wasn't sure I was going to get the models done. I'd blocked off some spare time to try and get them finished up only to find out that my Netflix account was hacked and then got an after hours call work call.
Winterhound! I'd love some close-ups of those minis if you get the chance, they look great! The terrain too is awesome!
Hopefully I'll get some better close up pics done soon. I was scrambling to get the pictures I took and the lighting on the close ups was worse than normal.

Lovely stuff there folks - some reallygreat work and i really love the amount of storytelling that went on this month. Pretty much every entry had a definite scene/story happening behind it. Really enjoyed that - excellent stuff. Gutted I missed the deadline but trip to hospital and RL kinda fubar'd me getting finished. This month is gonna be a slow month for painting too for me I think. Anyways - well done all and great job to BC for a cracking entry and for organising it all
Ratius wrote: Its nice in these challenges that everyone seems to get a vote or two, even when the standard of some is obviously higher than others.
#muchlove
I tend to split my votes between those who I think have painted the best and those who have interpreted the theme best or come up with ideas I really like. So to me its not always about the skill levels. I've really enjoyed every one I have done so far, starting to get quite the collection of challenge models in my cabinet
Very true MG!
But I love the way some "lesser" painters always seem to get a vote or two!
If it was a "one vote only" poll, a lot of the work put in would not perhaps get acknowledged.
Love the monthly threads basically

Usually I go down the threat and open the pictures and vote for each one that stands out to me for those reasons. Sometimes 5 votes, sometimes half the entrants. This time like I said, I couldn't honestly say anyone didn't deserve a vote having read the posts and followed the progress.
