Death By Monkeys wrote:Viti - is this wishlisting or what you've heard is coming down the pipe?
Just some humor I think. There's already an Overlord model, I don't see them making another kit. It's also pretty clear by the codex images that spyders and wraiths will come from the same kit.
Or will they?
Some of the latest Empire Models (The Magic and Religious contraptions) could have easily een put in the same box, 3 minis in one. But no, GW made it Magic in one, Religion in the other
Also, in saying that, Volkar the grim is a plastic model, and he is necron sized, so plastic Seraz?

I'm not saying they won't ever do plastic singles for 40k like they are doing with Fantasy, but show me one they've done yet before you start holding your breath waiting for a plastic Seraz.

I would agree. Honestly, I am surprised Szeras is getting a model at all. He sure is more of a second-tier character, many of which don't get models at all in other books. Its not a coincidence that Swarmlord and Karl Franz also happen to be the "main guys" of their respective codexes, the most powerful and most iconic SCs of their books (as far as SCs can "represent" nids anyhow). If they ever do a single plastic SC, I would guess they'd play it as safe as possible and pick a highly prominent, highly iconic and (not just to sell stuff) relatively powerful guy (or girl). Azrael or Abaddon would be in that sort of league perhaps (not that they necessarily need new minis). Szeras is not.
I"m not too sure about the Spyder and Wraiths being in 1 box, to be honest. I can see they may look similar is shape and style, but I imagine the size may be significantly different. So I wonder how parts of 3 Wraiths would be used on a Spyder and vice versa. Anyway, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

That he is, my good sir... however, he is far and away the most interesting LOOKING HQ the Necron have.
If the model looks half as cool as the pic in the codex, I can see a bunch of people picking him up just for the modeling aspect of it (besides, you can always proxy him as a Cryptek)

I doubt it, you don't see people taking Trazyn for his looks. Szeras is a crap HQ, definently the last on my list to pick up. The Traveler and the Diviner are far more desirable Models to have, and sadly I think we are going to rely on proxys and count as models for a long time in order to use them.

Taking a mini in a game and buying a mini because it looks good doesn't have to coincide. I'd pick him up if he looked good, look pretty next to the rest of my crons.

I think you are going to see Szeras on a Terminator Base and that is going to put him out for conversions and proxies for competitive gaming. Don't get me wrong, I will buy hims just for the sake of it being a Necron model. But I won't go out of my way to pick him up and I won't assemble and paint him until more useful units are completed first.

Volkmar is not a separate model but comes with the War Altar kit.

Matt, you realize that GW is limited by what they can fit on a frame, right? They're not going to be casting up single frames for special characters. Using part of a vehicle frame for use as a generic character/special character rider option is completely different.

Taken from Redemption's thread here Pertinent information from the post bolded an underlined for your attention. :3
Spoiler:
Redemption wrote:drbored wrote:I got a rare opportunity to ply a wealth of information for some knowledge and insight about what's coming up next/soon.
Here's the rundown...
Dark Angels (May/June)
6th Edition (July/August)
-Starter Box featuring Dark Angels vs. Eldar
Eldar (Oct/Nov Xenos slot)
And somewhere in that mix is going to be a splash release of fliers that *should* include the Harpy, Voidraven Bomber, Doom/Night Scythe, and possibly more. When I mentioned 'Autumn of Fliers' I got a derisive snort, so we may see it sooner, we may see it later.
This confirms two things:
1. It's not going to be Dark Angels and Chaos for the Starter Box. GW is NOT going to put two power armor armies in the same box. Power armor is their bread and butter, and to put two power armor armies in one starter box doesn't follow any trends, going back to the Rogue Trader days. It *may* be Dark Angels vs. Tau, but my source suggested Eldar strongly for several reasons.
-A. Eldar is a girl-getter. It's the one army that attracts more girls to the game than any other.
-B. Eldar is currently the worst selling army.
-C. Eldar has a massive loyal fanbase.
Eldar are the logical step, and now they're the rumored next step in this coming Xenos season.
2. Chaos is not going to be coming out this year, but may be slotted for early 2013. This is good and bad... bad because we don't get Chaos sooner. Good because it means Chaos will be a true 6th edition army, and not a 'made for' 6th edition army. This will put more time between the release of the rules and the finessing of the Codices, which means a better 6th edition Codex for Chaos. We could, of course, get a surprise, where they slam in a new Codex into the year, but that doesn't trend either. My source suggested, however, that we may see a lot of 'splash' releases packed in, with the aforementioned fliers being one.
As for my source, of course I can't reveal him. It'd be a plain disservice to his trust. What I can say is that he is a wealth of knowledge about all things GW, Forgeworld, and Black Library, and has many contacts therein (and I don't mean GW store managers. I mean Codex and BL authors, and GW and Forgeworld sculptors).
I would be very surprised if I was proved wrong by the passage of time and the developments therein, but such is the nature of the future. Take it or leave it, but I'm confident that you shouldn't have to take too much salt with this.
Seems we will possibly be gettin our scythes yet gentlemen.

I know, but with the plastic range of heroes GW is making, and showing that they will make a plastic infantry SC, means that they could make a plastic Seraz.
Whether they would is a different story, but it is still possible

Please re-read what I wrote. You apparently missed the "like they are doing with Fantasy" part. Also, the "show me one" was referencing 40k not Fantasy. I didn't realize a dangling participle would be cause for a celebratory trip on the short bus but you certainly showed me. Well played, Sir.

Fantasy models don't have to be WYSIWYG and also don't need the various component/weapon options the way 40k models do. I expect this is why the single-model kits are Fantasy models only so far. Personally, I'd like to see more generic "HQ" kits for other races/armies like the Space Marine Captain.

I don't think I'd put much credence into that rumor, since the original poster of it on Warseer pretty much came out of the blue with it. Granted, everyone's gotta start somewhere, but the dude's never spoken up before.

I don't think Szeras would be a big model for a simple reason - his statline. He's like a regular cryptec but with +1W. Let's say Triarch Stalker is on 60mm - that would make Sheras use same base. Have you ever seen infantry on such base? A T4,2W infantry? I don't see it happening - prepare to see failcast Sheras on 25mm or if all is well - 40mm only to accommodate bigger legs.
Meanwhile as we wait for 2nd weave, check this out:

I wouldn't totally rule out plastic singles for 40k..........There's also the Chaos Terminator Lord which is a single model plastic kit. However, it does seem that GW tends to release special characters either in metal or finecrap, probably because special characters are usually more detailed and difficult to capture by injection molded plastic (?) (i suppose realistically a lot of finecrap figs fail to capture details of the sculpts too due to poor quality control, but on the occasion that you do get a good cast ,they are finely detailed)

I do love the way the beetle/Spyder came out (and the fact that it comes with 10 mini beetles/Scarabs is awesome!)
... but that price might be a bit of an issue.
Still, if GW's version doesn't measure up, at least everyone will have another option!

The GW manager of my local store was pumping everybody up about the rumours of the 2nd wave of Necrons. He was going like : HEY! have you heard the rumours, Necrons next month jolly jolly! and then move to the next person.
I don't know how far a GW manager gets to know what is about to come, but somehow my git told me he knew more and just used the "heard rumours" as some kind of decoy for his excitement.
Just saying here I'm really voting for our second wave, Let there be scythes, triarch stalkers and all the other cool stuff!
