Just interested in what bits of fluff and background people have gleaned from the Mantic games set in the... ... ... Manticverse?

Does the setting have a name yet?

My first real question: Has there been much information about whatever it was that left the booby trapped treasure troves that have unleashed the Plague?

The Auld Grump

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

The setting? Depends. Mostly, itd be the GCPS, no? (Galactic Co-Prosperity Sphere). Though there are some parts that are outside, so theres that...

And re: Boobytraps: Obviously whoever played the card.

It's generally referred to as "the Warpath universe" regardless of game, so I guess WP is it's sexy short-hand moniker.

Ex-Mantic Rules Committees: Kings of War, Warpath
"The Emperor is obviously not a dictator, he's a couch."
Starbuck: "Why can't we use the starboard launch bays?"
Engineer: "Because it's a gift shop!"

Warpyverse. I'm coining it. You each owe me 5c each time you use it.

The galaxy is littered with the single-planet graveyards of civilisations which made the economically sensible decision not to explore space.

In that case, I'll coin 'Manticosm.'

There's been mention that the Asterians have old and incomplete memories/recordings of having fought the Plague in the first time, and defeated it at great cost to themselves, and the species of the death arc rendered extinct during the struggle. They either created the artifacts and confined the Plague to them, or confined the Plague back into the artifacts they originated from, but that were not created by the Asterians. Either way the Plague itself was not created by the Asterians.

Whatever created the Plague has something to do with the creation of the Marauders, as they're the only species that is immune.

That's only a hypothesis. I'm immune to certain diseases/viruses, not because I created them (or those who created me, created them), but because I defeated them (either naturally or with medical assistance through inoculation).

I hope Mantic have big plans for the deeper history of the Warpath universe; that definitely has a huge potential to explore.

I'm loving the Plague story-arc, not so the Corporation/GCPS side of things; but I'm sure I'll warm too it. Love the DB stuff too. I like the idea of the Asterians, but not the design aesthetic... I wonder how the Cypher comms work and how immune it is to being blocked by enemies.

I'm also looking forward to Mantic fully fleshing out the other races, such as Z'zor and the Rebs races (e.g. Terratons)

The Deadzone and Dreadball books are full of fluff, their Wikia site is severely lacking, but hopefully that changes.

Unfortunately the earlier e-novel (short story compilation) created for DZ backers was pretty poor. I actually couldn't finish it, many times I was either correcting the grammar in my head or lamenting at just how poorly written it was.

A Warpath KS stretch goal means they'll employ a professional writer to write a printed novel, so that should yield a much nicer intro to the Warpath side of things.

I don't know how much I can offer, but I have been a contributor of a fair chunk of the Plague-centric fluff since Deadzone's original fiction anthology, so I can say that a great deal of thought has been put into the Plague's origins, and also specifically how it functions.

Mantic has always been absolute heaven to work with compared to working with Black Library. If I have a great idea that doesn't expressly ruin something already being planned, I am encouraged to run with it.

Greg Smith and I essentially had carte-blanche in deciding how the infected see themselves from inside the prisons of their own mind. Really cool stuff.

I believe you can buy "Containment Protocol" digitally just about anywhere. It collected, if I recall correctly thirteen stories set in the Deadzone/Warpath universe.

I've also worked on something for a Dreadball fiction anthology (which i'm not sure when/if its still coming out) which likewise shows life in various corners of the same universe.

It'll be out soon.

Any word on the supposed 'revamp' of the Marauders? I believe that includes story line as well as models. As 40k Orks are my favourite faction from any setting ever I'm really looking forward to Mantic's own interpretation of "greenskins in space"

Pretty certain the story line isn't changing, they're just working on the aesthetic, ie how to reconcile the old 40k-ish grunts and raptors with the new Deadzone Commandos, because they're quite a bit different.
