Warning From Magnus? Not Listening!
|
So, I finally got back to my eldar, my first army EVER, before going to Orks, Wood Elves, "Tau Marines", Skaven, More Tau Marines, High Elves, Inquisition, Marines, Chaos Marines, MOAR MARINES, Skaven again, MAHREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENSSSSSsssssssssssss...
So, I have about 15 guardians, 5 fire dragons and a converted (aka EPIC!!) Warlock. I had just painted 3 (badly), and gotten frustrated, so I gave up. Yesterday, I painted one in a different scheme, all Khorne Red with Mephiston Red Armour plates and details, which looks super cool and is really simple (NO WHITE HELMETS!! HAHA!) with reversed for cannons, vehicles and other things (reversed= Mephiston Red with Khorne Red details).
Fluff is gonna be something like this:
They split of from Saim-Hann (do craftworlds split?) and/or became lost, so have similar color scheme. Could also mabey be a separatist Wild Rider clan?
Plz hlp, al hlp uhpreziaded! Dang I can't spell...

Subbing, that Tau Marines thread was interesting.
I reckon that Eldar probably would split from the craftworld, if they dishonoured themselves. Some sort of exile.

Corsair group?
A charismatic Prince leading a splinter group apart from the Craft world for some reason? Perhaps a different interpretation of a prophesy from the bulk of the Craft world? Or the Prince had a difference of opinion with Craft world leadership (see Yriel)?
I have a splinter group from Uthwe who believes the key to defeating She Who Thirsts is letting Nids devour all psyker life in the galaxy (Eldar last, of course). Cult of Lokus.
Lots of options. Not terribly common if they aren't Corsairs, though.

Your eldar could very easily be a corsair group who felt that craftworld life was too stifling. Or they very well could be a splinter group from a Saim-Hann clan.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

How big are Saim-Hann clans?
Do corsairs live in craft worlds?
So many questions.

Lugganath craftworld is apparently heavily tied to corsairs, so I imagine other craftworlds would have pirate raider fleets too... especially some of the smaller, more remote ones.

Minimum for Guardian Defenders is 10. A min unit of Defenders can take a platform, with an additional one at 20. If you can find a weapons platform separately (I managed to get some from ebay, as the older Guardian box didn't come with one. I'd guess that's what you had), and an extra Guardian (the platforms should come with 2 crew) that should sort out your troops choices.
I'm not totally up on Corsair fluff, but I think they live on spaceships rather than Craftworlds, though they will visit to trade / pick up new Outcasts etc.
Making up your own Craftworld is also totally legit.
{Edit} removed inaccuracy about Storm Guardians.

The minimum size for storm guardians was lowered to 8 in the new dex.

Oh wow, had not noticed that, thanks! Thinking about it, it's probably because the upgrade set only does 8?

I'm thinking of making my Eldar be corsairs, using the Eldar codex. Just be corsairs fluff wise. Sound ok?

From the Wikia
"Eldar Corsairs are those Eldar Outcasts who have deliberately chosen to make their living by raiding the commerce of the other star-faring intelligent races"
Eldar Outcasts are "those rare members of the Eldar race who have left their home Craftworld to wander the galaxy when they find the rigid Eldar lifestyle suffocating or because they have committed some unforgivable crime against their fellow Eldar, such as walking the Path of Damnation that leads to consumption by Chaos."
All quoted parts are from the Eldar Outcasts page on the wikia (only place I can access info at work q_q silly firewalls)

I doubt anyone would be upset by using CWE codex to run Corsairs. Some might take exception to some power gaming, but you'll have that regardless, running the CWE dex. And if you're Aspect-heavy (or footdar in general), it shouldn't be a problem. Footdar in the CAD is really just fine.
CWE are a very ascetic community. Very stifling. Couple that with both strong feudal traditions (despite not leading craft world's, Princes are still a huge part of Eldar culture) and frequent cryptic prophesies, and you have the perfect storm for offshoots.
Also, remember that Eldar care about Eldar lives first. CWE and Dark Citiers may hate each other with more passion than a Mon'keigh could comprehend, but even they are brothers where any aliens are concerned. No matter how ugly their separation from their past (probably Craft world), family is family. Craftworlders will still come to their aide, and vice-versa. In fact, having an Aspect Shrine that serves both wouldn't be unreasonable.
Speaking of Aspect Shrines, you may want something more than 'Yar! We be pirates!' If you want a lot of Aspect Warriors. One or two shrines might be anywhere, but a host of them is more likely to be crusadeish, or following an ideal. Perhaps restoring the glory of an Eldar house, lead by a forceful Prince? Or an Eldar prophesy? Or perhaps the Craftworld the Aspects belong to has a vested interest in the pirate fleet? Or the splinter group is founding a "craft world" (without an actual Craft world, so they use their parent's Infinity Circuit, etc)?
Lots of options. I'd love to know more.
