As an incentive to get people in the door, our GW shirt decided to set up a campaign for AoS and 40k.
It's a brilliant thing I have over three cases of my brothers dwarves which he gave me XD
You get points for buying things. playing games, painting, whatever. You can use your points to fortify your spot on the Campaign Grid, so someone else can't nick your spot by paying points.
Last man standing or most points by Halloween gets prizes, but who knows what.
What do you think? AoS Chaos and Eldar will come out on top, for sure?

Yep, it's certainly a GW event.

Stupid thing is the same shirt had a go at me for finally getting round to finishing my FW Centurion saying "It got him no sales" even when I bought a fething Captain sprue for a power sword, better looking head and Ultramarine shoulderpad for him, which set me back 11 quid. I don't even get a point for that.
I'm giving a GW subsidiary money, which goes back to GW anyway, why the feth does he care? I bought several paints and the aforementioned captain so wtf man?

Prbobably because he has sales targets to meet and any money you spend on forgeworld instead of in his store means you're just another person taking up space in his store without buying any of his merch.
Yes, this is countered by you buying some other gear for conversions, but I suspect he'd much rather you spend everything in his store.

Because GW encourages its various retail stores and brands to compete with each other. Buying a FW model (or buying from the GW website, etc) doesn't fill that employee's personal sales quota, and if they don't meet their sales quota they lose their job. So the employee has a strong incentive to put their personal gain ahead of the company as a whole. They'd rather have you spend $10 at their cash register than $100 on an online order.
(Yes, this is a really stupid idea. GW is run by really stupid people.)

Another thing I was confused by was when he calls my best friend a noob for playing Blood Angels, even though he has quite a large collection of Blood Angels he uses on a regular basis.
Then he uses Necrons against a kids SM army which he just fething bought. I now know what GW mean by hiring for their 'attitude' because this guy is a living-breathing TFG.

I don't believe a manager called a customer a noob, without it being in a joking manner.
I don't believe anything in this thread, including point for buying stuff.

Eh, Im not sure Kronk, I can see GW running a campaign that gives you bonuses for buying stuff. The Battle brother tournaments my local one runs/used to tun (havnt been there in years) revolved around buying the big Battalion boxes.

TheEyeOfNight- I swear, this thread is 70% smack talk, 20% RP organization, and 10% butt jokes
TheEyeOfNight- "Ordo Xenos reports that the Necrons have attained democracy, kamikaze tendencies, and nuclear fission. It's all tits up, sir."
Space Marine flyers are shaped for the greatest possible air resistance so that the air may never defeat the SPACE MARINES!
Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum

That campaign sounds like a double pay to win tournament. #1 being who spent more money on the good units and allies to make their list extreme followed by #2 buying more crap just to get ahead.

My local GW ran a similar thing a while ago based on the planetary empires campaign set. You had to buy and paint a planetary empires box to be your "planet" and to enter the campaign. You could then attack other people's "planets" and anything that you bought during the campaign could be used in addition to your army list. Basic money grabbing disguised as fun.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Care to explain the legitimacy of this? You know, instead of contributing nothing to the thread? We are talking about a small, out-of-the-way FLGWS in the middle of nowhere, so trying boost sales seems like a good thing to do, especially when every store has sales targets to meet.

Oh, I believe the campaign thing. I don't believe the "noob" calling by the manager. Sorry.

I don't know why. The GW store in my area did a similar vague "points for buying, painting, playing" thing (I never bothered to check out the details). A non- GW store is doing a tanksgiving event that has a bonus for buying and building your tank on the day of the event.

I hear you, MoO, but there is a huge difference between:
1. A campaign where Battalion Box is pitted against the other Battalion boxes, but you have to buy them from the store to play in the event.
AND
2. A campaign where you get bonus points for the more gak you buy. "I lost 5 out of 6 games, but since i bought $1000 worth of gak, I won!"
I believe and would play in #1. That sounds fun!
I do NOT believe that #2 is happening as the OP suggests. Not at all.
