Subject: DaMekBoy's P&M Hobby Blog - Grey Knights and Dark Angels Succesors - Image Heavy
Greetings and Salutations everyone and welcome to my P&M hobby blog. I am currently working on two main armies, firstly a Dark Angel successor army with some seriously complicated fluff (coming soon) named the Blackened Angels. They are supported by my Grey Knight strike force known as the Lost Brotherhood.
Here is my current to-do list:
Status Not started
To be (re)painted/converted
Done
Blackened Angels (DA) Deathwing Squad 2
Tactical Squad 1 (painted but needs some work)
Tactical Squad 2
Ravenwing Squad
Landspeeder Storm (to be converted to Landspeeder Vengeance/Darkshroud)
Devastator Squad
Lost Brotherhood GK Terminator/Paladin Squad
GK Terminator Squad
And here are some picture of the stuff that is already done:
Blackened Angels
Terminator Captain (sometimes acts as a proxy for Belial)
2 more Captain
Librarian
Techmarine (not sure if I am happy with this guy, he might get replaced at some point)
Command Squad
Terminators
The weapon on the sergeant counts as a storm bolter
Dreadnought
Tact Marines 1 (these guys need some work)
Scouts
Landspeeder Storm (soon to be converted)
Random Biker (I have no idea what to do with this guy, I will probably just team him up with my Ravenwing when they get finished)
Greetings and Salutations to you too MekBoy, I am the great and powerful Bealzabab you may know bask in my presence ( or out of curtsy, bask in my response). Know to the issue at hand, I think your Dark Angle successor chapter is a good start for loyalist scum but would suggest that they join the true powers of the warp and cast off your shackles of the corpse emperor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Though once you have read that then you are corrupt enough to receive my feedback.
First I would like to state that i find your idea that a "rogue" Grey Knight force supporting your troops sounds utterly fascinating and developing the fluff on that must be crushing the life out of you. All that work and they will still fall to the twisted powers of Chaos.
Second, I quite like the colour scheme you chose the black to symbolise that they are burnt and the green to indicate that they are a Dark Angles successor chapter but most of all I like how you have the ashed bone similar to the Death Wings' base colour for the Dark Angles to show that they are all prepared to die to repent and are ready to tackle the worst of the situations. I particular like it on the dread nought.
When you finally see the truth in my words please contact me through the debased ritual of messaging me.

Thank you very much for your replies and opinions guys, here's a little update
Firstly I managed to finish the first of my Paladins, the Banner Bearer
When I field the paladins as normal GK terminators this guys will count as having a sword hence the sword in his other hand.
Close-up on Banner
Secondly I started working on my apothecary who will be wielding a staff. A terminator in the other squad will also be carrying a staff and I didn't want them to have identical weapons so I decided to do some conversion. I am currently conflicted between two ideas.
The original staff
1. Replacing the top
2. Putting a blade at the bottom
I think I like the alternative top more, what do you guys think?
Lastly I did some work on the bases for my Paladins
Firstly I painted on a gradient going from black to blue and then from blue to white
Then I glued broken eggshell pieces on top to simulate rocks
Lastly I painted the eggs shells to look like rocks (undercoat of Chaos Black, then a layer of Mechanicus Standard Grey and lastly a dry brush of Celestra Grey)
I got the inspiration for this idea from this video

In regards to your dilemma between which staff to take i would personally suggest something more malevolent ( I will stop this in the next post) maybe something to show the true power the GK can posses if they wield the powers of the warp. But getting down to business I quite like the second staff idea over the original I think it looks far more menacing.

Thank you very much for your feedback Bealzabab I will post an update on the apothecary soon.
I haven't really had any time to paint but I did managed to finish the background story on my DA succesor chapter, the Blackened Angels
So without further ado here it is
The Blackened Angels
Origins
Spoiler:
The Blackened Angels were once a proud successor chapter of the Dark Angels. Soon tension arose as the chapter master Mazrael openly criticised the Dark Angels obsession with hunting the Fallen. Mazrael declared that his chapter would launch a crusade again all the enemies of the Imperium regardless of their origin. It is presumed that the DA were afraid that the secret of the Fallen would be revealed is the successor chapter was left unchecked. While the chapter prepared for their crusade they were attacked by ships bearing DA insignia. One ship, the battle barge Andel, managed to escape but two third of the chapter was destroyed in the attack including chapter master Mazrael. The ships navigator had died in the attack and Captain Ismael Vandire decided to execute a very risky blind jump.
After a hellish trip through the warp the Andel ended up near a planet isolated by warp storms and dubbed it Salutem. As they approached the planet a gaint silhouette appeared in front of it, it was an ancient star-fort dating back to the Dark Age of Technology. When the space marine boarded the vessel they found is completely abandoned with evidence of some kind of bio-weapon that likely wiped out the crew. The remaining Techmarines and a handful of surviving Tech-priests discovered that the fort was still largely functional and capable of warp travel. It was then that the chapter started to study the planet and discovered that it was in the middle of a war with a powerful Tzeentch cult slowly gaining more power over the planet. Ismael, now the new chapter master, decided to get involved and soon the roar of Thunderhawk gunships was heard by the planets inhabitants dropping of armoured figures in ceramite grey. They turned their guns toward the cultists and as soon as the loyalist inhabitants realised they had gotten unexpected reinforcements they joined in. The chapter soon learned that the cult was known as the Brotherhood of the Flame and they lived up to this name as after 2 year of fighting the cult was finally defeated but every marine’s armour was scorched black by the cultist’s flamer weapons.
The chapter now renamed the Blackened Angels had started recruiting form the population of the planet giving the marines enough recruits to rebuild their chapter. After scouting the rest of the system they discovered a Forge World named Tacetincide, a planet embroiled in civil war. The chapter managed to bring peace to the planet and in return the forge world offered them a fortress monastery outpost on the planet and a supply of Astartes weapons and armour some of which was quiet ancient in design dating back to the Great Crusade.
After the warp storm around the system subsided the chapter began its crusade to purge the enemies of the Imperium. The mysterious chapter has attracted the attention of inquisition but it is currently seen as less of a threat due to its effectiveness at destroying xenos and chaos forces alike.
Organization
Spoiler:
The First Order - Redemptii The chapter's most revered warriors - number of astartes unknown due to spread-out nature
The Second Order - Protectii Are tasked with rooting out and exterminating any treats against the chapter - specialize in lighting strikes and raids
Venatorii Chaos 3 Orders that specialize in fighting chaos
Venatorii Xenos 4 Orders that specialize in fighting xenos
Scout Order
Works closely with Protectii gathering intelligence for them
Outpost Orders
Small forces often largely consisting of recruits.
Recruitment
Spoiler:
The planet recruits from a variety of different planets on which it has outposts. These outpost are often guarded by a garrison of recruits. Recruits are given weapons and combat training and if they succeed at a gruelling set of test they are promoted to squires and their bio-enhancement are completed yet they are not seen as space marines yet, squires are marked by a white line across their helm. Squires that show as proficiency at stealth are drafted into the 10th scout order. Others are divided up amongst other orders were they are attached to squad. When a squad member dies a squire is chosen to replace him. Squires also often crew the chapters tanks and aircraft. Due to the spread nature of squires and recruits and their rare appearances on the battlefield it is unknown how many there actually are but there are suspected to be several thousands.
Squire Helmet Design
Culture
Spoiler:
The chapter is shrouded in mystery and this is reflected into its culture with every recruit going through a process known as mindlock, a combination of psychic therapy and bio engineering making the marines more resilient to psychic attack especially psychic interrogation (it is presumed that this has been made to counter DA’s interromancy). Not much more is known about the chapter culture
The Custos Redemptio The Custos Redemptio is the chapter's space born fortress monastry

Greetings its been a long time but I see the wait was worth it. I particularly like how the GK paladin looks like though i have to say that the power sword is beutiful far better than the last power weapons.
Though I would like to know how you did the goldish writing in the armour well still keeping the indented area black.

I like the converted weapons, and the paint scheme, on your Deathwing sarge. That halberd in particular looks great! I myself have considered getting some Grey Knights to run with my Dark Angels, but right now I don't want to start another army. Later, though...
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

The Grotsnik Corp Bump Feelerer 9,000. It only looks like several bricks crudely gaffer taped to a cricket bat.

Hey guys, sorry about the (very) long hiatus, I have been quite busy lately and have had only little time to paint. But anyways here is an update on what I got done between now and my last post.
Firstly I managed to finish the Stormraven Gunship, here are some pics
Spoiler:
Exterior
Interior
Base
Weapon Options
When we are on the subject of GKs, I have been really struggling with painting the Paladins and Terminator and have therefore decided to put painting them to the side for a bit. They are assembled, ready to be played but I will come back to painting them later. Their ranks have been bolstered by a Dreadknight which I will finish painting and I will have pictures soon.
Okay lastly I finished my stand in for Azreal.
Spoiler:
He could also count as Ezekiel, a librarian or an interrogator chaplain.
Any opinions, discussions and questions are more than welcome.
