Indeed, although someone not fully familiar with English might get confused. And the sentence is technically incorrect.

Last I heard, there were actually particular selections of people in prison who got the gak beat out of them, even by felons, specifically for doing things that the felons themselves found appalling.

I always find that morbidly interesting.

It's a very interesting picture of the human psyche.

Or a pipe bomb, or a friend with an axe or a pair of kill trained dogs disguised as helper animals. On the other hand, if the man who stopped him had a gun, he might have stopped him without getting hurt.
Too many "ifs" here.
The big fact is that the 75 year old had both brass balls and skill that he put to good use in a dire situation.

I believe the argument usually goes something like: guns aren't the problem because killers would just use knives... But evidently that theory has a huge hole, given that an assailant with 2 quite serious knives was just overpowered by a 75 year old man, unarmed. No one had a gun, and no one died. It's a pretty good example of why knives aren't as effective at murdering a room full of children as guns. Which should really be common sense. Yet "some people" seem to either lack that, or deliberately act dumb when it comes to defending guns.

I think it had way more to do with the guy being an ex-military vet who got trained specifically to take out armed assailants while being unarmed.
Its like saying "knives suck" if a guy tries to knife a black belt Karate master.
The implement of death doesn't matter in the big picture. People who want to hurt others will always find something to do it with. Making it harder doesn't solve the problem. Its putting a bandaid on an axe wound to the chest. Addressing the symptoms instead of treating the cause.

This came from someone whose cousin was in prison and gave this explanation.
Basically, they are in prison for the good things. Like commiting crime to help their family and so forth. While being away from their family.
But the people that are in prison hurt their own families or kids or something, so they deserve to get hurt.

Yeah, you get sympathy if you were just stealing as your main mode of income. Bonus points if you were doing to feed your starving kids or something. You get respect if you're a hardcore gang or cartel member. But if you're scum who just hurts people for pleasure then you are on the bottom of the heap.

That wouldn't have mattered much if the kid did have a gun. Obviously, we have seen a lot of these kind of attackers who do have guns, and they usually succeed, and it's pretty terrible. I can't think of any that used trained kill dogs... SO I don't think there are than many ifs. It's quite surprising he didn't use a gun, that would have been the obvious choice, incredibly lucky that he didn't.

Until 9/11 not many people looked at a passenger plane as an instrument of mass murder, either. The scenarios I put forward are not far fetched at all. Here in Salt Lake, there was a guy a few years ago that created a hostage situation with a bomb, but he was taken out with a gun.

Silver said it was lucky. It was lucky, as those guys do often have guns, and then we'd be reading about a room full of kids that were massacred (again). Then you rushed in to quickly divert attention away from guns, like all things are equal. Then you post a counter example of someone who was shot by a policeman, with a dead-man switch and a bomb that luckily didn't go off.

The big fact is that unlike all those other things, Americashire has plenty of guns. And plenty of people using those guns to... well... gun down scores of people.

Not diverting attention at all, just said there were any number of scenarios possible, including the 75 year old having a gun, and I showed a valid example. In both instances, a men kept their cool and dealt with a deadly situation, risking themselves to save others.
