I cant work this out. Why are the Vostroyans available on ebay generally at stupid buy it now prices above what the models are actually being sold for from Games Workshop direct? There is no indication that they are unavailable on the website.

The GW vostroyan squad are permanently consist of 1 sgt, 1 HB team, 1 flamer and 6 troopers; there are other you can get but a few vostroyans cannot be ordered through GW, notably the 3 vostroyan casualties, mortar team, sgt with chainsword and bolt pistol, sgt with powerfist and las pistol.

I got 50, plus a firestorm redoubt, including a casualty, 3 mortar teams and both OOP sarges for 150$, all unpainted.

Just gotta wait for a good auction...

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I understand for the genuine OOP guys but people are selling bog standard 10 man squads for £34... wtf?

Same with sisters of battle and other metal armies. Sellers either don't realize or are trying to prey on people who don't realize that these armies are not, in fact, out of print.

Today's top tip: When it comes to Citadel Miniatures, stuff up for Buy It Now tends to be chancers and resellers (collectively known as scrapers). They tend to buy job lots or mis-spelled auctions, split them up and stick them up for a massive price over and above what they'd usually go for with the hope that they can convince someone who needs that item, right now, that it really is OOP (hoping they don't check the GW website) and to swallow the cost to get it. All it takes is one to swallow the OOP, MIB, PROPAINTED lines once or twice a month to make it worth it. Most likely though, those items will sit there for years. For example, when I was filling out my old Rogue Trader guard army, I had a search set up for Rough Riders. For approximately 8 years, this seller had the same bunch of original rough riders listed for a stupid price. Eventually, he got bored of relisting and having stock that wasn't shifting, liquidated his non-selling stock and I got the lot for next to nothing!

Best thing to do is exclude Buy It Now listings when searching. Also, check the Sold Items for Auctions - that'll give you an idea of the amount that gets listed over a certain period of time as well as the price it actually goes for. Finally, patience. Don't get pulled into bidding wars and don't fall for Buy It Now's.

This is great advice. I'm becoming more and more sure that some sellers create alternate accounts to drive up bids on otherwise obscure auctions.

I find the "Buy It Now" advice understandable but also a bit unfair. I've managed to get nice deals out of "Buy It Now" items, like a metal chaos dreadnought I bought a few months ago for 13€. It depends on the seller.

That said, there's quite a problem with 1) Scrapers as zedmeister pointed out, but also 2) Incredibly Delusional Sellers, who simply look extremely out of touch with reality and seem to ask whatever amount of money they come up with in a heartbeat for any kind of "auction".

My dear man, I can buy those brand new and cheaper at GW official prices than what you're offering me. At least bother to check the price of the equivalent new product before listing your goodies on eBay.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.
