I am NOT going to field this silly armless orky monstrosity as is. I mean... ARMLESS????

Ok, so I have got to put some arms on this guy.... maybe have him hold it like a multi-melta or grav cannon. Geeze even like a bazooka?! Has anyone solved this problem?

Oh god it's so terrible... not Dorkanaut bad... but pretty bad.

Could I somehow size up riptide arms and 3D print? Maybe YOU could do that for me? Or (gasp) must I model them myself? Eeeeek.

Any ideas? Milliput? And legos and resin? Been wanting to try it....

Ok first of alll let me just say "I don't play tau and I have never converted one"
Tthere is more than enough weapons on the shoulders. Why not move those weapons to the proposed arms, that way you will not have to worry about wysiwyg, just my 2 cents.

I figure it looks fine without arms due to it being an artillery piece, not some kind of ninja combat mech. It's got three dudes in there manning it, and an anchor on each ankle, what would it really use the arms for, on a practical level?

Same reason mobile suits have legs, to make them look better and more likely to be approved for production.(or be bought in the hobby sense)

I personally think convertions should be for the cool look factor first and practicallity and reason second.

Armless robots are a staple of mech sci-fi... I love it myself. It also makes WAY more sense realism-wise.

The problem isn't just the lack of arms though. It has an obvious "head" like all of the other Battlesuits (even though it's "head" is supposed to be the exposed cockpit). Because of this, it looks like a Riptide that had had its arms lopped off. Removing that part, though not ideal (I still think it looks awful without arms) goes a long way to making it look less confusing to the eye.

Practicality and reason make them look cool.

Edit: *googlegooglegoogle*

Oh, right.

Well, in a corollary to my response to Kingpin: given that it looks like it's squatting to answer nature's call on it's waddly little bow-legs, and has a centre of gravity high enough to make it look like any recoil (or a stiff breeze) would topple it on it's back like an overturned tortoise, I don't think the fact it has rocket pods for arms is the worst of it's derpiness problems.

Hope that helps.

Holding over the open cockpit to keep the rain/enemy grenades out?

What if it fell over? Then the arms would be practical to get it upright again.maybe the orks need to get hold of it and put everything but the kitchen sink on it. I vote for arms with rockets.

Buyer's remorse, eh? Well, I'd be glad to take that thing off your hands if you just want it out of your sight. Give it a nice home. Bring its shots up to date. Maybe give it some more rivets, paint it blue, add some Orky glyphs. Armless models deserve love too!

I am contemplating just getting another set of legs and making it a quad walker.

I have decided I am going to make 3 part arms in the style (kinda) of a riptide. I will model them in Milliput and start my first silicon/resin/millibut mold/cast project. This will take some time though unfortunately.

After sleeping on it: here's my idea, although I haven't even started the preliminary assembly:

Picture an oldschool Battletech "Archer" battlemech from the 1980s / 90s. Place the cluster rockets on top of shoulders, maybe repositioned/reoriented. I'm considering some covers/hatches that would be modeled open.

Then sculpt (my first attempt ever) a 5 part arm.
- Hemisphere as a shoulder
- Shoulder / Upper Arm like a big riptide shoulder glued to hemisphere.
- Round/Cylindrical Elbow piece
- Forearm / Upper arm piece.
- Left and right hand pieces

I am thinking maybe have him (them) holding the gun in a similar fashion to a grav cannon / multimelta. So maybe just riptide style mittens. OR attach the gun at the elbow of his right shoulder and a side handle for his (their) left hand. I don't think it will be a complex sculpt, but to keep it simple, I think I would have to do some sanding after the cast to give the inner forearms some shape / facets (rather than just the flat upper surface of the resin.

Just brainstorming. Wish there was a kit one of you cooler kids would make... hint hint. BUT maybe I'll gain a skill.
