Ok guys, this one is a long shot but on the Facebook group for Tyranids, a poster has been giving out hints of a tyranid book being in the works and on the way. This may very well end up being a hoax, like the leaked "synapse" rule we saw about a month ago, but i'll post what he's said here for discussion:
Nicolo Marcato wrote:
-70 Days!
*Algorithmic playtest
*'decurion' including 14 out of the existing 21 formations
*major reworking in how synapse works (e.g. Dark eldar power feom [sic] pain), being more tactical
*IB unchanged
*algorithmically playtesting a change in twin linked devs: more strenght[sic], no tl or see below
*algorithmically playtesting new interaction between weapon (range, rof) and insect ammunition (S, ap, type)
he goes on to mention in the comments "let's say it's my wishlist, because i'd like to keep my new job" so i don't know if he's full of crap, or what - but maybe some reputable rumor sources will start mentioning things if ANY of this is true.

Using the word "playtest" not once but 3 times debunks the entire "rumor".

I'm going to look a bit thick(er than usual), but how do you go about algorithmic playtesting?

Whatever happened to nid-November I kept hearing about? This rumor seems fishy. Play testing? Also 70 days seems to be cutting it close if they are still testing the book out.

Print runs for these sorts of publications require a lead time of several months; this means that in order for a codex to come out in January it must have been completed by the end of the previous summer. It was at least 3 months between FW saying IA4:v2 had gone to print and it appearing on sale, at that was a much smaller production run than a codex with far less distribution required.
If this codex is being playtested now, it won't be out in 70 days.

Far East colour is 3 months, Poland can be done in a month-6 weeks. So it's still feasible. Lots of companies are printing in Eastern Europe or Italy for colour now, as the slightly higher cost is offset by flexibility (or even the same after cost of shiping from Far East). It's opened up options to print less, later, cost-effectively.

*Algorithmic playtest Heh. Nope. New models are delivered to the fluff/rules team to slot into the existing game. We know that now, and it's basically the opposite of how to write rules. Algorithmic playtesting? Give me a fething break...

the only "playtesting" they would do that is believable goes something like this:
"hey this model is pretty cool right kid? Would you ask your parents for this if it was 100 dollars? No? How about 75?"

What's this? It sounds dangerously close to market research... You're fired!

Alright folks. Looks like we're back at square one - guy admitted he's a flat out liar. So time to lock up this thread and just wait until White Dwarf shows a hive tyrant on the cover, I suppose.
Sorry if I got anyone excited.
