I remember something about these guys being generalist shooty models, but I'd like to know if they're still okay at this role. If they aren't, then what's a good "All around shooty" crisis suit build now?

Hmm... Doesn't seem too bad. AP2, bit of range, strengths in a simmilar range...
I'd probably just go two of the same though nowadays to be honest.

PR + MP used to work because you couldn't take two of the same weapon without twin-linking them.
Now that you CAN be armed with 2 of the same weapon, that is nearly always the best way to go.
2 Missile Pods, 2 Plasma Rifles, 2 Burst Cannons, or 2 Fusion blasters Maximise your efficiency at taking down one particular type of target rather than potentially wasting half your shots attacking something suboptimal.

The customizing everything for an optimal target strategy obviously has the disadvantage of requiring that optimal target to be present to function...

The days when Str 7 AP4 or Str 6 AP2 shots (both with ludicrous ease of access to ignores cover) can't find a good target are going to be fairly rare I'd wager.
That one time when you face the Templar or Khornate player with 3-4 Land Raiders and bugger all else, yeah, probably not going to end well for you. Lucky you've got a bunch of other points to build the rest of your army with hey?

I'd never mix weapons in Crisis Suits.

I see this as a good generalist unit to pop a commander in. It has the weapons to take on multiple different targets. You should be fielding specialist teams in addition however. I field a Helios team in addition to a Deathrain team. One for armor and terminators, the other for transports and general ranged fire. I have my higher strength shots for AV14 covered elsewhere.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM! |

Can we make this into a general Crisis Suit loadout thread? Do we have any of those yet?
Just finished building a unit with a burst cannon and airbursting fragmentation projector each, some decent anti horde there.
I would've just given them 2 airbursts each but I didn't have the bits and this way they can -kinda- do light vehicle work too.

I used to be totally against mixing weapons with my Crisis Suits while using the old book, especially since I played Farsight Enclaves I could bring a wide variety of specialized teams. Now however that you can take squads of up to x9 Crisis suits I really think that Mixed Weaponry has the potential to be very strong. I posted some over in the Tau Tactica Thread but Ill repost it here:
-x5 "Fireknife" Crisis Suits
*w/ x1 Missile Pod & x1 Plasma Gun each
-x3 "SoulforgeD8" Crisis Suits
*w/ x1 Flamer, x2 Fusion Blasters Each
Both are kitted out to fill specific roles and at the same time both have a level of flexibility. The Fireknife Crisis Suits will be the backbone of my Farsight Enclaves and will be responsible for dealing with infantry, MC's & Light to Medium Armour. The Missile Pods give them range and strength while a Plasma Guns give them the low AP for dealing with heavy infantry. Also they have a solid rate of fire at 2 shots at 30 inches, 3 shots at 24 inches and 4 shots up to 12 inches apiece. Thanks to the increase in Crisis Suit squad size that breaks down to x20 Shots up to 12 inches, x15 Shots at 24 inches and x10 shots at 30 inches.
The SoulforgeD8 Crisis Suits will most likely be Deep Striking (hence the smaller squad size) and will have the primary mission of dealing with any Heavy Armor that my opponent may be fielding. In the case that there is none on the table they will then have the mission of clearing objective campers and helping deal with heavier targets like MC's and Heavy Infantry.

I'm thinking of buying the new Crisis Suits and making a 9 suit unit equipped with 1 Fusion Blaster and 1 Plasma Rifle each, That way they can deal with multiple diferent threats. Plus you dont get 6 of each weapon in the box..

Plus you dont get 6 of each weapon in the box.. That's always been an issue with GW kits.. they never give you enough of the weapon to build what "works" and most people aren't silly enough to just buy multiple boxes. I remember back when I still played the " Fireknife" was the go-to combination, so I don't see why it wouldn't still work. It might not be quite as good as doubling up on weapons, but you have the tools to deal with basically any threat and that was the main reason it was seen; Plasma for Marines, Missile Pods for everything else and even light anti-vehicle work. I know I'd probably reach for it as the default "take all comers" approach to building Crisis suits, and only specialize if I wanted something to mulch infantry (probably Burst Cannon + Missile Pod, I forget the name of that one).

I do like large units of Crisis suits, for the novelty if nothing else, but that unit will cost 513pts minimum (presuming a fusion blaster, plasma rifle, and target lock each).
Now that's fine if you get that much utility out of them, and with the target locks you can engage a lot of different targets, but it is a lot of single-basketed ova.

I tend to run my crisis with dual plasma, the missles are nice when the plasma is out of range, but I typically like to save my missiles for my missilesides.
On a side note i took dual plasmas on a 3 suit team and for s&g's gave them flamers knowing they'd be charged at some point. They were, killed like 4 skitarii between the flamers and a couple lucky plasma in overwatch.
