Crazy ass terrorist stabs 4 people at UC Merced with a 10 inch knife, then gets shot dead by cops.

As a UC student I find this amusing/angering due to the idiotic on campus "Disarm UCPD" protest thing thats been going on lately. I wonder if the mouth breathers will have the temerity (not to mentional moral discontiunity) to protest over this scumbag getting the due & proper. I also think its ridiculous that the police are all "ITS NOT TERRORISM!" because if you decide to stab or shoot a bunch of students/faculty then you are by definition, engaging in terrorism.

Props to the construction worker that interrupted the stabbing.

About a hundred miles southish of San Fransisco apparently. Its one of the newer, smaller campuses in the UC system.

Its also REALLY weird that there hasn't been a mass email from the chancellor about this incident. I mean we get mass emails about stuff like "A man showed his penis to a woman and then rode off on a bike, this is not something we tolerate at UC Davis." (I'm not kidding, that was last week) but when this happens, or when 3 dudes gang raped a student in a park last week.....nuffin.

Considering nothing at this point is pointing towards this as a politically motivated attack, calling it "terrorism" only works if you're completely ignoring everything the word means.

No, Peter has previously referred to perpetrator of a school stabbing in Sweden as a terrorist. While I'm not sure I agree with that definition, there's no evidence in this thread the label is being applied due to his name.

And yeah, I've consistently labeled school shooters/stabbers as flat out terrorists since Columbine. Same with folks like James Holmes and Anders Breivik. I do think its worth asking why the label is NOT being applied in many of those cases.

Probably because they didn't use violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal.

How exactly was he a terrorist? He's a murderer, to be sure. But terrorism implies a political aim. All of the evidence suggests a personal vendetta, not politics.

I can see how people would think he was a terrorist considering what the police say they found in his pocket:

2) University is remaining silent as part of ongoing investigations.

Lol, kind of like that. Then again nobody here can change what happened and having a good understanding never hurts.

I don't see it as terrorism, if more evidence comes out that he was affiliated with an organization (does not include being a wannabe) or committed the act for some politically motivated reason I will change my mind. As of what I know right now (which isn't much) this sounds like another case of the mentally ill that America is afraid to address.

Oh yeah, that I can see. We had a similar case in Oklahoma with the crazy Muslim(?) guy who was fired and thought his coworkers were discriminating against him so he returned to his job and beheaded one women and tried to behead another before he was shot. There was a lot of "terrorism" talk going on with him as well.

Note: I'm not sure if he was actually ever all that Muslim or what the actual outcome of that was. He's in the news again right now because his trial is starting up.

He planned out a detailed scenario to stab students, booby trap the room, and steal a gun from a cop so he could go kill more people.

Thats terrorism. Period.

Political aims are a possiblity for terrorism, but the goal of said activity is to literally sow terror amongst a body of humans. In this case his fellow students. James Holmes had no political motivation and is most assuredly a terrorist. See what I'm saying?

The investigation of the gang rape is being handled by local PD, you are correct. We still got a mass email about it from the campus PD as part of the "situational awareness" thing that UC tries to promote. Beyond that though....not a peep. Not from the administration, the political activists on campus, nothing. The only proff that mentioned it was my self defense instructor.

Official story right now is that the guy snapped after being kicked out of a study group. Typical "he never hung out with or talked to people" + room mates describe him as totally withdrawn.

Glad the cops ended him. Damn glad.

Usually when mass casualty incidents happen we know the killers motivation, his political views, religious beliefs, favourite Power Ranger, and most recent colonoscopy results.

Well, not exactly. Terrorism is the act of sowing terror with political aim (If the guy explicitly said that he wanted to bring down society, he's a terrorist. If he was "taking revenge", he's just a murderer).
