A friend of mine is going to be starting up a thunderwolf death star build, but wants it to be themed with his existing marines, thus wolves are out. Does anyone have any ideas that I can suggest to him? Would also need something to need a replacement for fenrisian wolves too.

Fluff wise there isn't really anything straight forward to suggest as the Blood Ravens have never been shown to be much of a mounted army. But depending on how much conversion you want to do there are a couple of fluff acceptable options.

One of their recruiting worlds is a Desert, the other is.. or was a jungle feral world. So finding rideable mounts that fit these planets would work, my suggestions being Lizzards.

The next suggestion areas the fact that they're supposed to share really close ties with the mechanicum / mechanicus. So wouldn't be too far of a stretch to go with full mechanical mounts.

I don't think this will work. Whilst I'm not hugely strict on who should have what I think that incorporating thunderwolves never works particularly well. I don't think it suits the style of army that Blood Raven's are generally believed to have, and it is a unit that is really divisive. Personally I would recommend he plays as straight marines or allies in Wolves.
