So, we've made it through what turned out to be a remarkably good year for quality games (Arkham Knight's PC release nonwithstanding) and while some bad business happened, I think we were pretty spoiled for quality this year.

That said, what are the big winners for you in 2015?

For me, I'm going to be the guy to start with Undertale. I was debating for a long time between Bloodborne and Undertale as my game of the year, but Undertale wins out because of how big its impact was, and how unforgettable it will be. It is one of those games that needs to be played and for more reasons than just it being a fun hybrid of rpg and bullet hell.

The Old Republic - Knights of the Fallen Empire if that counts (released this year). Easily the best story from Bioware in YEARS.

The Witcher 3.

Not much other than that, Halo 5 was a major letdown. The next best thing that got me really happy was, sad as it may be, the Night Operations and Legacy Operations DLC for Battlefield 4.

The Witcher 3 for me too, although i have had a few moments of cursing the imbecilic nature of the bad guys. But the rest of the game made up for it

Arkham Knight is probably the best new game I've played this year; visually stunning, great plot that could be straight out of a Batman comic book, a fitting end to the Arkham story and it built on an already fantastic set of game mechanics to make something that is exceptionally fun to play.

Battlefront is up there; I've played it enough to realise that the gameplay is arguably pretty shallow, but as someone who's generally crap at multiplayer shooters, you'll see no complaints from me about that! It looks and sounds fantastic, I find there's enough variety to keep me coming back for more. This'll be a firm favourite of mine for years to come, I feel!

Halo 5 I've only just started, so I'll have to get back to you on that. From a brief play, the multiplayer did seem a step backwards from Halo 4 and Reach.

Funny enough, though, the biggest surprises I've had in gaming this year all came from older releases. I bought Titanfall in the Xbox sale for £6 and have been playing almost nonstop for the last few days, with no sign of boredom setting in (not to mention the fact that it's just about the only FPS I regularly seem to perform well on). I got Tomb Raider Definitive Edition free on Xbox Live in September, finally got to play it last week (having never played a TR game before) and was blown away by how good it was (and I've yet to finish the main story). I also came across Mass Effect, which I'd somehow missed until now, and while I've only played ME3 so far, and not to the end, I'm very impressed!

There is not this idea.

I can never remember what comes out when.

Pillars of Eternity was pretty good.

I was going to say Monument Valley, but I guess that's 2014 originally.

I got Titanfall earlier this year on sale as well - load of fun indeed.

I can't even remember what games I got this year for sure. There's Fallout 4, but it has been for me at least, a rather generic experience that I've played through once and don't feel like picking up again. I hope the upcoming DLC breathes some new life into this, otherwise I'll way to wait for the inevitable bug-ridden, crash-prone Obsidian game to come along and steal away way too much of my non-existent spare time.

I am enjoying the gak out of Helldivers, Vermintide is also enjoyable, if a bit challenging from time to time and despite the slowed shrieking of some around here, I still enjoy the odd game of Payday 2, bad business practices do not automatically make me quit a game I've put quite some time and money into just yet.

Here's to 2016, hopefully the next Tomb Raider game will be a good one.

Attila: Total War for me.

Put alot of time in that game. Easily the best Total War game since Medieval 2, if not the best in the franchise.

Invisible, Inc. is my runner up, although it Early Access phase was 2014, it was fully released in '15.

I had a good year with turn based games, come to think of it.

I did not play a ton of stuff in 2015 but I've really been enjoying Heroes of the Storm. It's very playable, well paced and has little of the homework and drudge work that makes other MOBAs so unbearable for me.

Witcher 3 and F4 both tie for my "Best game I played but didn't complete and don't really have the immediate urge to". I enjoyed them both, but for some reason I see them in my steam library and just think 'maybe later'.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I'm going to go with Undertale. The whole, "you can talk your way through combat," thing is already a rather uncommon element that they added, but the way it's executed is very fascinating in that it makes battles feel more like a small puzzle. Using elements from bullet-hell games also is a nice touch, since it stops the gameplay from falling into the RPG trap of requiring a heavy time investment in grinding levels to progress. Also, the soundtrack is probably the best one I've heard for a game all year.

Spoiler:
I especially like how the game breaks the forth wall in ways that aren't just for showing a cool trick, it's also part of the story and the entire experience of playing in subtle but appropriate ways.

Heh, I'm a bit behind the times so the game I absolutely loved this year was Mount and Blade: Warband with the Brytenwalda mod installed.

Of actual new games, hmmmm. Probably Pillars of Eternity, if that was 2015, otherwise War for the Overworld, as one of the only certifiably 2015 games I played!

Kerbal Space Program. There are so many fun ways to build not quite space-worthy vehicles that end up as fiery comets on their way to or from orbit
And even though the simulation is quite simplified it's still fun and educational to recreate some of the great human space endeavors or those missions that might still come to be.

It's been in early access for some time and released in 2015 iirc. Since the early days a large number of new parts to play with as well as vertical and horizontal take-off have been added; tons of additional 3rd party mods too.

Witcher, hands down best story and game since ff7 for me, fallout 4 was a massive disappointment, had I played fallout first, I probably wouldn't be as harsh, but all the way through I just kept thinking "witcher did this better".

2nd for me is batman Arkham knight, actually better than the first, and that's shocking.

Lastly It would be fallout 4, has so faults, but it's the fallout universe, so I like it.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I'll have to say Rainbow Six: Siege. I've played CS:GO and Far Cry 3 like crazy, but R6 is a completely different game. Get it. The movement mechanics, the destruction... Beautiful.

Undertale. It's the second comming of portal.

I'm a masochistic fellow however so as to the game I enjoyed the most this year I gotta say with Darkest dungeon.

Edit: Actually, on second thought the game I had the most fun with this year has got to be sunless sea.

For me its a three way tie between FO4, Bloodborne and Undertale. Undertale has a great interactive atmosphere that is just simply one of a kind in terms of experience whereas Bloodborne really scratched my itch of getting through a challenging but extremely rewarding combat system in a very esoteric but interesting setting. FO4 for me, although not the most innovative, kinda combines bloodborne and undertale for me in terms of having both the light-heartedness (but surprising depth) of Undertale from some of the things you discover while also having a more grim aspect of the post-apocalypse that Bloodborne invokes.

GTA5 for me (PC release). And some BF4 dlcs are still fun.
Overall not much grabbed me last year. Mostly went and picked up some cheap Steam deals or replayed old classics.

Strictly 2015 i'd say Fallout 4 would be my top choice.

Not strictly 2015, as i played it last year but it was a '14 release, was Valiant Hearts The Great War. One of the PS Plus monthly games which was brilliant and even got the bin lids interested.

I picked up Battlefield Hardline too but was massively disappointed. .
