Happy new year to all! The closing Painting Challenge of 2015 has sent out the year with quite a bang, and now it's time to pick a winner from the fantastic range of entries! This month, there was no overriding theme, entrants were simply encouraged to do their level best and produce something smashing to end the year (or get an early start on some Christmas presents! )

As ever, you may cast as many votes as you like, with 3-5 being the recommended numbe (feel free to cast more or less), and you're encouraged to vote not just for the best paintjobs but the most creative, most improved , or the entities that otherwise catch your eye! You should also feel free to leave feedback for the entrants in this thread, their blogs or their gallery pages.

This had been an amazing month 46 entries, 31 finished entries! This comp is getting really popular and the standard is also increasing, some of these a just beautify painted, others are wonderfully creative with a open category this month.

Thanks for anyone that sends a vote my way, (feel free to vote for the image if you like it following the Finished Projects link in my signature, it might be the first time I get 5 votes on an image ) I really wanted to get this project finished since this is likely to be my last big project for a while since me and my wife are expecting our first child on the 4th of Jan so no more time for conversions, I will still try to paint 1 model a month and enter it but no promises, will have to see how it goes.

I couldn't limit my votes just to many good entries so ended up doing a dozen.

Great work everyone I've really enjoyed watching the competition.

Took a very close look at my top five & went for the Harlequin in the end. Very nicely done monochrome scheme.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Votes cast.

Feedback for those voted for:
Paradigm - I love the X-Wing miniatures, but can't justify starting yet another collection, but you and inmygravenimage are making it very hard for me to resist. Those X-wings are extremely well painted. Well done, think they are some of my most favourite of your work to date.
Buttery - That buggy is epic, the fact that you built that yourself and then put it in such a dramatic pose, and weathered it! Man! You went all out this month. Well done man.
El-Torrminator- That Harlequin is beautifully finished piece. Love the greys.
Chief918 - That Nurgle is horrific(ally well painted)
Lipsdapips - Your Ultramarines Command Squad is very well painted. I can't stand vanilla marines normally, but I can't deny that is a superb paint job
Lechine - I want your Tau über suit (I prefer calling it that) for my Farsight army
Winter - I am amazed at the detailing on that Inquisitor, very well done
Talys - Your Missile Launcher Marine is a very crisp finish again. I wonder that you might want to try some more elements of interest in some of your minis (more OSL, missile in mid-flight, but if weathering) to show them off even more. I appreciate that would be difficult to incorporate in to your existing force, but it would really make them stand out
Midget Gems - Santork Claws is a truly magnificent achievement. Like Buttery, a scratch-built masterpiece

So hard this month. Everyone did such great jobs. Well done all. Thanks for the 3 votes I've had so far!

I'd have a hard time picking my votes, but I voted for a few. Took me far longer than I thought!

Love the sleigh, all of the custom bits, and all the things. Apparently I've caught Christmas.
Though I think my fave is probably Talys' entry, it's my favourite design of weaponry and such a very clean job.

Wow, some very impressive entries there. Cracking competition. Good thing there can be multiple votes as I can't choose between the five that I voted for.

Great competition paradigm, you have done a brilliant job here.

Well, as always we have an impressive display of painting talent here. My five votes went to the following:
Buttery Commissar: Very good paintjob, and getting the jeep into that pose on a base makes the model totally EPIC!
Lipsdapips: Those Ultramarines are pretty sharp. I'd be very proud of those if they were mine!
Lechine: It's a Ta'unar. 'nuff said. Seriously, you made that big death machine look amazing!
Midget Gems: The Ork Santa is really cool, and there are so many somewhat subtle touches (like the list)! You absolutely hit a home run with this one!
TP^DC Deputy Manager: That Balrog is great! Always nice to see some LotR stuff in here.

Special shout out to Paradigm for running these things every month! It helps me actually get stuff painted, that's for sure (this month notwithstanding, too much going on for me to do a proper job). See you all next time, when I should actually have a proper entry!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Fantastic set of entries once again. Bloody hard to decide my fav 5. But managed it in the end (just about!)

@Buttery - fethign love this. Really reminds me of the Cain novels humourwise. Could so see him in this situation with Jurgen driving like a lunatic as ever. Great great piece. My #1 for the month.
@El-T - That Shadowseer is gorgeous. The b&g works so well with those gorgeous;y coloured masks just popping out. Stunning
@Winter - Nice to see the Inquisition (what fool citizen ever said that and lived) and lovely job done. Really nice work. Some sterling detail work in there i keep finding
@Midget - What's to say. Seriously. Absolutely cracking, hilarious, well planned, super paint, totally awesome entry this one. All the thought and execution that went into this really jumps out. Nice one MG
@TP - This is a whole new level of painting from you TP. You have upped your game big time. Really great look to this one. You've got the charred blackened skin with the raw heat of the flames burning underneath down pat. Fething gorgeous. You've set a new level for your painting and improved your game no end. Nice!

Thank you very much for the kind comments, folks. It's one of those ideas I had before starting the model and was just so happy I could pull off.
I want to go back and detail it more in future, but the whole thing was done in 5 days to use at a tournament. The jeep comes off the base for tabletop use.

I voted for you too. I felt that the use of bold colours were a metaphor for the larger than life aspect of Orks, whilst the Flash Git's expression captured perfectly the existential aspect of a the Flash Git's existence - "have i got enough dakka? can you ever have enough dakka? what even is dakka?"

i also voted for the santa ork because it was quite clearly superb, the grotz, because i thought that they were very characterful, and the rebel titan because it looked like one i did when i was 12.

wow I'm really humbled by your votes, thank you so much to anyone that has voted for me so far.

I still plan on doing the following to the model but need a break from it at the moment.

Spoiler:

- A Base, I was looking at a slated rooftop with a chimney and the bomb aimed at it.
- Link reins between grot drivers hands
- Highlights reins from grot driver to the wooden cross beam
- GS some harnesses for the wolves
- Fill Santork Klaws sack with more "presents" in the shape of guns, axes, bombs etc.
- Some extreme highlights on the top part of the red sled panels
- Fill in the 4 side panels with either icons, symbols or pictures
- Paint a wood grain effect on the sled skis
