So yesterday our area had its first kow tournament. It was a small kinda outta the way store for our area but it still filled 12 of its 16 spots.
Top three were:
1. Undead (52 BP): vampire lord on dragon, lykanis, horde of werewolves, 3 regiments of werewolves, baleful catapult, and a troop of soul reaver calvary
2. (Me) Salamanders (49BP): Clan Lord on Firedrake, Herald, Battle Platform, 2 regiments of Tyrants, 2 regiments of Ceremonial guard, 2 lykidons (5 shot shoot monster), and a horde of gecko warriors.
3. Kingdoms of Men (40BP): Knights and stuff (really didn't pay attention)
I know we had elves, dwarves, another salamander player, ogres, and brotherhood. There might have been others but it was a solidly diverse field.
Things I took away;
1. Games are super smooth. All of our games took less than 1.5 hours at 1500pts. And that was with quite a few people who hadn't played or had only played 1 game oreviously.
2. Game feels simple but there is a lot of depth and unlearn ing from wfb.
3. Love the way dice rolling is handled. Having had time issues with other games this is awesome.
4. Feels balanced. I think at 1500 you can break it with to many flying monsters but I feel like that's less of an issue at higher points.
5. Magic is nicely supplemental and isn't a focus of the game.
Overall I had a blast and so did everyone else. Very few arguments (read only 1 or 2 in 18 games played). People seemed excited to be playing again.

So its like WHFB used to be?
The more I see about it the more my interest grows.
I noted you play salamanders, yet they don't make any.
I'm assuming its a GW LM army you used?
Either way, I may have to order the book and see what it's like.

Mantic does actually make salamander models now. Not geckos or anything, but there are salamander models. And they're quite nice!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Yeah, I used my gw minis. So far all they have for Salamanders are the unit in plastic. None of the add on stuff. But yeah, its really good.
It is similar to fantasy but with magic being less of a focal point than it ever was in fantasy.
I really enjoyed it.

I may hang fire for a bit then and wait to see the salamanders line when it comes out.
They do seem to make some decent models and the price seems refreshing too.
Thanks again

The basic salamanders should be out for general consumption pretty soon.
Renders:
Sprue:
Assembled
Much of the list need to be filled by GW or other companies models for a time still.

+1 to some WHFB unlearning, though KOW is similar enough that it's been a very easy to transition for me. I keep hitting moments where in WHFB we're used to some cheeky / douchey tactics - corner clipping, chain redirecting with cheap characters, etc - and happily finding that they just aren't a thing in KOW
'Grats on the 2nd place, glad you're enjoying the game. I'm three games in with my Ratkin and very happy with the blocks-n-dice game that is KOW. First GT is in April for me

Which GT Salvage? Curious as I think I might actually start attending fantasy GT's again if they are KoW Also yeah, no redirecting with character or clipping is so nice. Most of my unlearning revolves around consistent damage and charging if you have nothing better to do as there is no downside.

Unplugged GT over in Harftford, CT. Haven't made the first few Unpluggeds but have always heard great things, and KOW should go over great. Also lunch is included, and by all accounts delicious Most of my unlearning revolves around consistent damage and charging if you have nothing better to do as there is no downside.
Totally! So often I look at a mangled unit of mine and feel like if I go into this big unit in front of it I'll just lose my unit and they'll spin around and flank somebody, so may as well just redirect the deathstar and prepare to lose my little unit or something. Which is absolutely 8E up in that. - Salvage
