Hi Dakka,
I was wondering, seriously, if a new website could add something that isn't here, on Dakka.
Here we have lists building, a sales department, a meeting department, etc...
There are a lot of forums, there is Vassal if you want to play/test something...
Do you have an idea ? Something you miss / you wish was on the Internet ?
A website to store you lists ? I really don't know what could help the Community.
I don't need something more, personnally.

I have a lot of free-time this year, and I am familiar with PHP, CSS and HTML, so, if I can help, why not.

I can't think of anything either myself, however I'd been looking for a nice side project to sink my teeth into as well (web dev html, css, js, php, py, etc etc), so if you ever want some help feel free to hmu

Edit: Actually - that's a bit of a lie. I'd been wanting to make a web based "proxy tabletop" engine for use with 40k, but upon discovering vassal I figured there wouldn't be enough need.

A Find a Game site would be great.
In the UK that's pretty much always been done face to face or on forum and more recently Facebook groups .
I can currently think of 6 sites that I'd be able to check/post on in the Bristol area and as many public venues, not to mention private ones.
Streamlining this or having an app would be great.
A full player profile with army pictures that could be searched by postcode, ability, age, game, availability, preferences etc would be great.
Getting enough people to sign up and leave their current system to make this useful would be the tricky bit.
I've never used Grinder but something a bit like that could work?

An app would be great for all game finding not just for 40k.

I do actually mean grinder and I know that there is a find a game forum here and on plenty of other forums.
It'd be great to just flick my phone onto 'active' and bring up a listing of other active gamers within 5 miles. A quick check of their profile and a couple of texts later and you're into a sordid hook up the likes of which Grinder has never seen.

Fml. Tinder. Grinder is 'the other one'. Don't make that mistake on a first date.

I don't want a relationship, all I want is to get my hands dirty and have a good session.
Grindr is a lot more direct, no need to pussyfoot around when it comes to organising a game.

I concur with the idea of a consolidated "Find a game" site/app where you can message other gamers in your area to setup a match. Have your profile on there and some sort of search functionality to search by location, game system (40k, AoS, Warmachine etc), Prefered game style (Casual, Competitive, Fluffy, Fun).

Once you've got a basic Grinder/Tinder style site set up with messaging, you can add extra functionality.

You could also offer advertising forFLGs with places to meet/play.....

Damn.... why don't I have the free time/skills to do this.....

A few other ideas:

Rating or comments from other users
- "TFG/WAAC, smells bad, rules lawyer, 1/10"
-"10/10, Came dressed as a commissar to command his IG, bought extra beers"

Setup your own profile
- Showcase your best conversions/photos
- List your collections/points
- I have a suitable space to play/terrain
- Available times

Well, I for one would love a "gamr" type app/site.

In fact, I think I'll make "Gamr" as a site. Anyone care to contribute? PM me to get onboard

GW is just as capable of ignoring the emails from one mega-site as they are their customer base individually.

I've been trying to get a group of people together for a revival of Black Gobbo.

Not just a random Person's blog about his miniatures, but full on articles, campaigns, interviews, tactics and other such hobby literature with pictures and whatnot. And something dedicated just to GamesWorkshop.

And tacked onto that, an "Unofficial Official rules Ruling" team, where a panel of judges debate the best course (through community experience, precedence, and feedback) to make a ruling on something ambiguous (like, say, how vehicles work in chapter tactics) to stop RAI and RAW debates.

A well-done, fan-made worldwide campaign with maps would be awesome. Similar to what GW did with the Third War for Armageddon and the 13th Black Crusade. Each country/region is responsible for a portion of the war zone, and each war zone impacts the overall war in some meaningful way. But that would be a pretty significant undertaking, and I'm not sure what the real payoff would be. You'd also have to be very careful about not drawing the eye of GW's legal department.

Since moving from London you do find games but nearly at the rate I used to. (Even more now being in an expat/chinese community) "gamr" would be absolutely excellent.

Yes a good find a game app / site would be great. Simply put it is impossible for me to just pack up my army and do a gaming road trip without doing some serious research or stumbling upon unusually active gaming stores.

Currently there are x ways to find an opponent.

1) Lokal sites/ fourums/ apps of FLGS. These are a nightmare to find and to get into .

2)Facebook groups of GW's. Most GW's are not ideal to play in and on top of that you have to post a public post that you want to game there. I do not want to make this public a statements.

3)Forums like dakka, extremely inefficient and slow.

It would be great it you made an app that would allow me to make such a trip with just as easy as finding a tinder / grinder user while still guaranteeing my safety & privacy.

An other thing that I would really like is a good peer to peer bits site. I have tons of bits I want to dump and I have tons of bits that I would like to buy. But all the current ways to do it are expensive or crude

A tinder style app would be good. You have your swipe left and right for yes and know, distance, messaging, pics of the army. Just swap out gender and looking for, in exchange add competition level (5 stars being hardcore tourney lists and 1 star being fluffy unbound lists

Not that I'd ever condone that kind of thing, but a website with a library of 3d CAD files of each model GW produces for those among the community with 3d printers.

A battlescribe style app or torrent app containing all the codexes and rules would be handy. Think of a free version of the iCodexes, except containing all codexes, supplements, campaign books, IA books, and individual dataslates like Cypher.

Is that even possible with all the supplemental material spread all over the place these days, or is that the point, to have them all available in once place because money issues aside it is too hard to collect it all when you have to get them from so many different sources?

I like the game finder idea.

I had an idea for a community-based homebrew site that acts as a compendium for various game systems. I even bought the domain. I just don't have the time or know-how to actually do it.
