Up to 90% off select titles: link.

20% off Talisman: Horus Heresy pre-order. Not sure if I should wait for a better deal.

Edit: Might be related to Eternal Crusade Early Access launch today.

Im assuming given the way the talisman games are sold waiting for a collected version of the HH one in a year or so might be the wisest move.

All the same I'd be interested to hear anyones experiences with it.

I saw "GW" and "sale" and almost had a heart attack.

Then noticed it was video games.

Might pick up Talisman or Mordheim. Blood Bowl was pretty good, maybe Mordheim might also be okay?

I think it's kind of like a visual novel, but without the visual part. I've never played or read it though.

I got both the Legacy of Dorn and Warhammer Quest deluxe.

Legacy of Dorn is quite literally a choose your own adventure story with 40k images in it and some light combat. It's also pretty hard, died a few times so far.

Having a lot of fun with Warhammer Quest though, it's not perfect, but good fun nonetheless.

I'm finally going to get the dawn of war games...and Blood Bowl : Chaos Ed and Legendy Ed (is there a difference? does it matter?)

I'm tempted by Talisman: Horus Heresy, but the point's been made (a good one) to wait for a while for a bundle. For $2.50, I'll try Warhammer Quest. I missed my opportunity to play the miniature game because by the time I got into the hobby (circa 1997) it was being phased out. It looked really interesting.

Re: Dawn of War games - congrats! They're pretty fun. I've reinstalled Dawn of War Dark Crusade to have fun as Imperial Guard in campaign mode.

Re: Blood Bowl - I have both editions... but only because I bought Legendary and then later Chaos came out but I think Chaos might be all you need... I haven't actually tried it yet though so I don't know what the differences are like if they took anything out... but I know they added some teams or something.

Re: Warhammer Quest - I never got around to playing the physical version as well. I first got Warhammer Quest on my iOS devices and fun even with the basic stuff. On PC it is just as enjoyable and well worth the low price tag on it right now.

Re: Talisman: Horus Heresy - still haven't tried this one yet. In fact, I just only tried the original, non-Horus Heresy version last night and thought it was interesting.

Be warned though, I heard it has a lot of bugs and devs essentially gave up patching it.
The "original" is more basic but its not buggy (although the AI is poor overall). I enjoyed it however.

I too would like to hear about the talisman games.

WHQ is fun on PC, even if I think it would probably be better for mobile (which I believe was the original platform)

I really enjoy Mordheim. There is a fair amount of customisability in the warbands, story to the offline campaigns and you can use your campaign warband online (though I haven't played online since before it came out of early access, I got frustrated with desync bugs and never saw a patch message saying they were fixed... can anyone clear if desyncs are still a common issue?)

The main issue I've read about Mordheim is that, like BB1, it still very much feels like your rolls aren't truly random, and that you'll get a lot of BS rolls whilst your opponent's rolls often border on Godlike. Given that's what put me off BB1, I'm wary about going for it.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I've only played Talisman... not the prologue nor the HH version... it is pretty simple but very fun. Better with more than just 2 players... or at least I would think so... I tried a 2 player game and it seemed to kind of drag on. I believe the prologue is kind of a smaller version of Talisman... or at least I know on the mobile devices it was free wall regular Talisman you had to buy. HH-Talisman I would think is Talisman with a 30k skin to it. Talisman itself has a pretty generic fantasy theme. In fact a buddy of mine didn't realize it was a GW game when he first heard of it.

BB-Chaos Edition is actually the newer version of BB than Legendary but I don't recall what all the differences were other than addition of a couple teams. I bought both because there wasn't exactly a way to 'upgrade' or add on whatever was with Chaos Edition. I'm actually looking to re-install both tonight to see what those differences might be.

EDIT:

Still waiting for the downloads/installs to finish but here is a bit I saw online that explains some aspects of each:

In April 2010, Cyanide announced the next version of the game, Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition would be released in November 2010, with 11 new teams (Amazon, Elf, Halfling, High Elf, Khemri, Necromantic, Norse, Nurgle, Ogre, Undead, and Vampire), and added bug and rules fixes,.[9] BB:LE is based on the current CRP rule set, and contains 21 of the 24 BBRC (Blood Bowl Rules Committee) official rosters. The missing races are Chaos Dwarfs, Chaos Pact and Slann.

In May 2012, Cyanide and Focus announced the next version of the game, Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition would be released, with 3 new teams (2 from the rules - Chaos Dwarves and Underworld, and a third made completely up by them - Daemons of Khorne), 2 additional star players and a new stadium.(Note: Two teams were still left out of the game: Chaos Pact and Slann).[10] Cyanide Studios have also released an adaptation of Dungeonbowl in the same year.[11]

EDIT 2:

Well one thing I notice right away... I have steam achievements available for Chaos but not Legendary.

Maybe a stupid question, but...is Space Marine any good? I like the trailers, but it does seem that the game is a little over the top in terms of blood and gore. If the game's good enough, I'll get it in spite of that.

Space Marine is great fun.

I played it originally on the Xbox 360 when it launched there, and for some time thereafter, and loved it. Purchased it on Steam during a sale for $7 and enjoyed it there, too.

The single player is enjoyable enough to be worthwhile at that price point but I found multiplayer to be really fun. Initially you're locked into using a Tactical Marine but you unlock Assault and Devastator loadouts in short order. As you progress to the level cap (at 40?) in multiplayer you'll unlock cosmetic rewards (for customizing your marine's appearance), weapons, custom loadout slots, and perks. This means that higher level players will have more options available to them than you will, an advantage on top of their experience.

Multiplayer has the standard deathmatch, capture-the-flag, and horde mode (called Exterminatus). Your gameplay experience in any of those modes depends on the people you play with and their internet connectivity since there are no servers for this game; someone's machine has to host and if they leave, the game will pause and inform you that it's migrating to a new host. Exterminatus is perhaps the least affected by it as there are a max of four players against waves of AI opponents. Most of my online matches are fine but I don't know what the player base looks like these days. I did play earlier and was able to get into Exterminatus matches no problem with my longest wait being around 5 minutes. The current sale is probably creating an influx of players right now, though I didn't see many level 1 guys.

I've completly missed out on legacy of Dorn and I'm quite the visual novels fan. It seems to mostly have recieved positive (4/5) reviews. Thoughts on it? Is it good?

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

Legacy of Dorn is a choose your own adventure presented in text format (and written by a proper Black Library author) with combat thrown in. It's pretty hard, but overall I find it good fun myself.

Talisman is okay. It's very random, mostly because the enemies consist of every possible enemy card being shuffled together into one big deck, and you just draw one whenever you need to fight. Which occasionally has you fighting something way above your ability to kill in the first few turns of the game. Personally, I think Relic (Talisman: 40k, essentially) is a lot better, but there's no digital implementation that I know of at the moment. It's not a bad game for 5 bucks, though.

Some of the reviews said Space Hulk Ascension is really buggy and that there is no fix forthcoming since the company that made it went belly up. Otherwise I would totally get it. I may go ahead and get Space Marine though.

I've only played it a bit, but found it enjoyable. Long loading times, which I guess are still typical for most.
